Remember the Johnny Ramone incident?
After a gig at L‘Amour East in Queens on August 13, 1983, Johnny Ramone returned to his apartment on East 10th St., only to find his (Ex-)Girlfriend Cynthia Whitney sitting outside the building with another guy: Seth Macklin from the Hardcore band Sub Zero Construction. The two got into a fight. Moments later Johnny was lying on the ground. He suffered a fractured skull and had to be hospitalized. The doctors had to shave his head, too.
The @nypost was the first newspaper to arrive on the scene. The reporters interviewed Whitney, snapped a few pictures and left.
When the August 15 issue came out, the fight between Ramone and Macklin was headline news. The first run of the NY Post mistakenly printed the story with a photo of Marky Ramone - who didn‘t even play in the band anymore at that point. It was later replaced with a picture of Johnny.
Swipe ⬅️ for both issues of the NY Post, a ticket for the RAMONES show at L’Amour in Brooklyn two nighs before the incident and a photo of Johnny a few weeks after the surgery, on stage with short hair.
If you happen to know what became of Seth Macklin, please leave a comment! 🥾
