Classical Sundays' demonstration debut yesterday at Pergamonmuseum, conducted by Shasta :)

I really wonder why it is that classical music never ties itself with any political causes. So I've decided that Classical Sundays is going to change that, and put on a series of demonstrations in support of Bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen, Fridays for Future Deutschland, and other worthwhile, lifesaving, worldsaving causes.

Stay tuned for more musical demonstration events to come!
Love,
Shasta

Hey Classical Sundays fans! Unfortunately I’ve had to postpone this weekend’s Shostacovich concert because I am sick in bed with some kind of nasty stomach flu, and stubbornly not getting any better. I’m so sorry for the late notice and if you have made any reservations I can give you a refund or they can carry over to the next concert.
See you next Sunday 27th September!

900 likes?!?!?! WOW. Thank you all so much for your continuing support in this wonderful journey. I know how horribly cliché that sounds, but it's really true.

When I met Thomas Bo Henriksson and the Werkhalle Wiesenburg Berlin, my ambition in life was to become someone who had their own venue, to put on the concerts that eventually became Classical Sundays.

I had been wishing, HARD, to the Universe to meet some sort of eccentric zillionaire, who was kind, interesting, and generous, and who, upon meeting me, would believe in my vision and spontaneously decide to buy me some kind of wonderful space in Berlin, with a perfect acoustic to play classical music. That exact scenario didn't happen, but my wish was totally fulfilled anyway when met Thomas, quite drunk at a bar, and saw his Atelier, the Werkhalle, for the first time -- with its beautiful high ceiling, I knew instantly it'd be the perfect place for these concerts I so dreamed of.

Ask, and it is given :)))))))

Be sure to check out our new idea, Classical Sundays EXTENDED, featuring a double set, diving a bit deeper into the insanely beautiful world of classical music, this Wednesday, featuring string quartets by Debussy and Schubert.

So much love,
Shasta

Classical Sundays is creating Making Classical Music Great Again | Patreon

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our first post-corona concert at Werkhalle Wiesenburg Berlin on Sunday :)

We will be having concerts every week from now on!!!!

If you did not know already, the classical music world is facing an extremely uncertain future. Most musicians, at least in Europe, fly from country to country constantly to play in big groups and orchestras. For every possible reason, this future is up in the air. Nobody knows how long travel restrictions, quarantines and social distancing will be around -- not to mention that nobody knows how long airlines AND orchestras can survive without any significant income. (And on a deeper level, nobody knows how we will feel morally and emotionally about a life of constant travel after these few months of perspective.)

And so, here at Classical Sundays we've taken matters into our own hands.

It is very important to me and to the Werkhalle Wiesenburg that Classical Sundays remains for everyone, regardless of bank balance. But on the other hand, we have to do what we can to provide a future for our musicians.

So, we have decided to start a Patreon account, where for the same amount of money that Netflix costs (or even less!), you can get access to recordings of every concert, free tickets, voting privileges over what pieces we play next, cool Classical Sundays merch, member-only events, and more.

Please check out the link and comment below to tell us what you think!!

Have a wonderful week and see you soon,
Love,
Shasta

Hey Classical Sundays fans!!!

Guess what — from the 2nd of June the Berlin Senate has decided that we will be allowed to do concerts again!!!! Hallelujah!!!

Will be heading to Werkhalle Wiesenburg Berlin this afternoon to measure the space and see exactly how many people can legally fit 😉

So — watch this space, there will be concerts coming soon!!!!

Hi Classical Sundays fans!!!

Things have been quiet around here (for obvious reasons....), but I've been hard at working thinking about how I can still give you guys music while still respecting the openhearted and fun philosophy of Classical Sundays (and of course respecting the health guidelines dictated by the government).

I genuinely feel as though music is more important and more healing than ever in these profoundly weird times, and I love the idea of surprising people with masterpieces when they least expect it.

And, onto an example of my idea. My post office on the Müllerstraße Wedding has suddenly become the hottest club in Berlin, with lines all day long stretching hundreds of meters. And where people are waiting in line is a tiny Innenhof where we could easily fit two or more musicians with enough distance in between them. We could play music, and people would be able to hear it while they are bored anyway waiting in line :)

So my question for you all is --

Are there places in your neighbourhood with humongous lines? Post offices, supermarkets, shopping malls? Anywhere where you feel that live classical music would lighten the mood? Please comment below and let me know!

And another question. I am on the lookout for an upright piano (with wheels preferably!) that I could borrow or buy cheaply for these purposes. Does anyone know anyone who could help out?

There are more plans in the works, and of course, we'll be back with regular concerts AS SOON AS WE CAN! I miss you all terribly :(

Love and positivity,
Shasta

Hi Classical Sundays fans!

Well, obviously we've had to cancel everything until further notice, which is a huge heartbreak. Honestly, it has been the light of my life to give classical music to new people ever two weeks for the last few years, and I'm still struggling to come to terms with this huge loss.

On the other hand, with literally all the musicians in the world free, it has never been easier to organise concerts!!! We would really love to do a digital concert on 22nd March, but we would need a bit of help:

a) A location with minimal human beings and very fast internet
b) Good microphones
c) A technologically oriented person to take care of the streaming/recording and set up the tipping system

Can anyone offer their help? Please PM!!

On the programme -- the appropriately apocalyptic Death and the Maiden quartet by Franz Schubert :)

Love,
Shasta

Hi Classical Sundays fans!

Good news --- ALL THANKS TO CORONAVIRUS?!?!

As you might or might not know, It's a really hard time for professional musicians. Gigs are getting cancelled left and right. Tours are becoming impossible. And obviously, the tendency to hang out in rooms with more than 1000 people in them is a pretty big no-no.

Which leads me to the good news!!!! All of this has left me really inspired to do even more Classical Sundays this year, to support Berlin musicians in these times, and create new ways to make a sustainable, local living :)

I am overjoyed to announce that there will be more concerts at Laidak happening through the spring -- and, that we will be starting Classical Sundays: Kids Edition in the afternoon before every regular concert at Werkhalle Wiesenburg Berlin. The children's concerts will feature shortened versions of the pieces that will be played in the evening.

And another new addition to this year's programme -- POPCORN :)

See you soon!

Love,
Shasta

Our Story

Shasta Ellenbogen and her Fabulous Friends!

Classical Sundays is a concert series started in 2016, run at the gorgeous Werkhalle Wiesenburg every week. This unique project challenges the classical music world’s aesthetic of perfectionism, and dares to see what happens when you play classical music for all the wrong reasons :)

Classical Sundays is a radical new approach to culture and tradition. It questions the classical world’s stiff standards of beauty and reaches for something fresh and alive. How? By only rehearsing once. For every concert! And with this, you see our vulnerability, our humanity, our spontaneity, our fun -- and let the audience behave however they want! -- and the result is exciting, thrilling, and powerful for musicians and audiences alike.

Come join us for an unforgettable evening every Sunday at the Werkhalle Wiesenburg!
