Hello coffee Friends. We mentioned a couple of months ago that part of our team is running a project called @berlincoffeearchives . They are shining a light on the topics of racism and decolonisation of the specialty coffee industry. Tomorrow, Saturday the 21st, the second webinar will be held with Tahir Della. He will tell you about the post-colonial structures in Germany and how to tackle them. He‘s working with @isdbund and Glokal since years already. Sign up for free on the website of the Berlin Coffee Archives. See you tomorrow?!

Hello dear coffee Community. Despite all the struggles and worries due to the pandemic, there are still things happening that we want to hereby support as much as we can. Please check out the following event thanks to @berlincoffeearchives :
.
(English Language Event)
Open to everyone, but priority will be given to Q***R BLACK People in Berlin!

Burst the coffee bubble!

Hosted by @gladt_e.v and Berlin Coffee Archives

Burst The Coffee Bubble workshop has been created to not only learn more advanced skills required within speciality coffee industry, but also to question and discuss the topics outside of a good espresso shot.

The online format will be an input and open discussion from Raquel @kellyakakelzz and Onome @onome_abboh , who both have numerous years of experience within the coffee and hospitality industry. They will be discussing the topic of discrimination and racism within the speciality coffee industry, particularly focused on participants experience, anti blackness within the industry and challenging the current lack of visibility.

This workshop is about creating a space for learning, open conversations and exchange of experiences and knowledge regarding the hospitality industry. We want people to attend this workshop and leave with not only more knowledge about coffee but also the fact they have been in a space that was created for them to be free and express themselves however they see fit.

BLOOM — BLOOM

Hallo liebe Kaffee Freunde.
https://www.bloomevent.org/deutschland-2020

(english below)

Dear fans, friends and visitors of the Berlin Coffee Festival,

The global pandemic has severely affected all our lives in recent months.
For the coffee world, this has meant closed cafés and restaurants and, in the chain, jams of green coffee in warehouses.

For us it meant: to do our everyday work and focus on securing our day jobs. Since its foundation, the organization and the team of the Berlin Coffee Festival has been made up of a small group of people, most of which are employees of the Markthalle Neun, as well as volunteers and me, the festival's curator, Philipp. In contrast to many other festivals in the industry, we work as a small passionate community and independent of any event or PR agency. In the last few months, however, many of our team have had to focus on keeping Markthalle Neun running as a basic supplier, as well as maintaining and steering the VOTE roastery through the last few months.

For these reasons we had neither the personnel nor the financial means to organize the festival in its usual size. And since the future is still so uncertain and we don't know what the world will look like in October, the Berlin Coffee Festival 2020 can unfortunately not take place in its conventional form.

Nonetheless , because of the political climate , we feel the need to exchange ideas with all you coffee-loving people. Once again we have realized the value of our work, our network and the exchange of ideas and knowledge within our community. We can learn so much from our peers, locally, nationally and internationally: about coffee cultivation, production techniques, trading practices and economics, history, and how to move towards more inclusive and diverse workplaces.
We are currently working on an exciting new format that will allow us to have exactly these conversations. Our network is international and that is what makes it so great! That's why the whole program will be online as well as offline in Berlin (on a small scale).

A small group of coffee professionals have been working towards hosting a series of talks and seminars with the aim of providing a platform for BIPOC experts in the industry to share knowledge in their areas of expertise and to facilitate conversations about racism and discrimination within our industry. We as the Berlin Coffee Festival have agreed to use our platform to host and facilitate these important discussions.

We have selected the International Day of Coffee, October 1, to begin a programme oriented around learning, critique and discussion. The festival will run from 01.10 to 04.10.2020.

We will be publishing a list of speakers and topics in the coming weeks. Focus areas will include: the historical and colonial background of coffee, the promotion of diversity in the specialty coffee world, experiences of racism in our industry, and post-colonialism in the green coffee trade. We will be accepting proposals from coffee experts for talks (priority will be given to BIPOC applicants), and seeking funding so that all speakers can be paid for their time and expertise.

Thank you for your understanding, your interest in our festival and the numerous requests for this year's edition! We look forward to seeing many of your faces at this new version of the festival -- whether digital or with a cup of coffee in your hand.

Stay healthy and see you soon, hopefully!
Philipp and the BCF Team.

We wish you all a great 2020! We had a fantastic BCF 2019 thanks to numerous visitors, participating roasters and many passionate coffee people. The new year is about to start with the sprudgie award by the website Sprudge. Worldwide, various parts of the coffee industry are awarded by a public ballot. Like last year, two berlin based companies are back in the voting which managed to gain an international reputation thanks to their work. Go to the website and vote for our local heroes: Isla Coffee Berlin as the best sustainable café and Fjord Coffee Roasters for best packaging design. In the other categories you will find one or the other name that was also part of the Berlin Coffee Festival, such as Filter Stories. Vote until tomorrow morning 9am.

Hey Berlin. Just because it’s not festival time anymore, doesn’t mean Berlin hasn’t anything to offer anymore when it comes to events full of coffee. In this case in collaboration with beer. Breweries and roasteries from all over Europe are joining forces to showcase their creativity together at @Uppers&Downers . The crew of @motelbrews is hosting the fest together with @flyingthud from @goodbeerhunting . We’re certain that it’s going to be a blast!

Dear All! We are still exhaling and processing how great the market day was. We are thrilled about how many people visited the market. What a good atmosphere was to be felt and how everything worked out ;)
We discussed, tasted, presented and together with you all we discovered and learned new things.
We say thank you for the support of our partners, all exhibitors and visitors. To all the cafés and roasteries who have organised countless events for almost a whole week.
Our special thanks go to our volunteers who helped with enthusiasm.
As the curator, I would also like to thank the team at Markthalle Neun, who made everything possible behind the scenes.
THANK YOU!

What amazing days and impressions of all the last days. Our producers from the #berlinbatch are in town and are visiting roasteries to taste their own coffees and get to know the other side. We had workshops for baristas, about chocolate, tea and coffee trading. Panel discussions in transparency within gastronomy and coffee trade. Roastery tours and loads of cuppings. Fun competitions and amazing special dinner experiences. What will your last day in the city look like before the big market tomorrow?
Have a wonderful day in Berlin and thank you to all the people involved making all of this possible!
