Making friends in a new city takes courage. Spoonful columnist Eileen W. Cho Photography has been especially brave in asking strangers in Paris to invite her over for dinner.

In her third installment, she dines on shrimp risotto and ice cream with Antoaneta and Sayako, founders of the popular Parisian cafe, AMAMI: http://bit.ly/2pLeFkG

It's time for Metro Mondays!! Today, is Bastille

Bastille Day, July 14th, is a very important date in French history, it denotes beginning of the French Revolution with the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789. It's celebrated throughout France complete with parades and fireworks. This station has incorporated scenes into its tiled walls from the life-changing events that took place on that day during the French Revolution at the nearby Bastille. The artwork, resembles huge paintings or frescoes. In total there are five of them, produced by Liliane Belembert and Odile Jacquot.

This station is served by Line 1.

It's time again for #MetroMondays! Today we're talking about Pont Neuf.

The station gets it's name from Pont Neuf (New Bridge), which ironically, is the oldest bridge in Paris. But you will also see the words, La Monnaie, which gives a nod to the nearby Monnaie de Paris (Museum of Money). So like other stations mentioned this month (Arts & Metiers, Varenne, Cluny) items from the nearby museum are featured in the station, huge coins can be seen here. In addition, there are also a couple of smaller exhibits with real ancient coins and an old set of scales in this station.

Pont Neuf is serviced by Line 7.

It's time again for #MetroMondays! Today we're talking about Cluny - La Sorbonne.

Located in the 5th arrondissement, also known as the Latin Quarter, this station has bright and beautiful mosaics on the ceiling. Most well known is Les Oiseaux (The Birds) by Jean Bazaine. Also on the ceiling and walls are the names of important French people (like Rabelais and Molière) who lived in this area at some point in time. Cluny-La Sorbonne is named after the Musée de Cluny and the Sorbonne University that are both in the area.

This station serves Line 10 of the metro.

It's that time....#MetroMondays!! Today we're talking about Varenne.

Paris is one for keeping things beautiful from the tops of buildings, to the museums and even the metro stations. Rodin, considered to be the father of modern sculpture, has a museum nearby. So, some of his famous works from the museum are replicated in the Varenne metro station. Le Penseur (the Thinker) originally named The Poet, after Dante, is replicated here. Varenne also has benches, so if you can't (or don't want to visit the museum) you can sit down and ponder life or sketch this amazing sculpture while you wait for the next train.

This station is served by Line 13.

It's that time....#MetroMondays!! Today we're talking about Arts & Metiers.

This station first opened in 1904, but then was redesigned in 1994 for the 200th anniversary of the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts. Arts & Metiers is now designed to look like a steampunk submarine, we're talking portholes, polished copper walls, huge cogs on the ceiling, and all! Designed by Francois Schuiten, a Belgian comic book artist, he wanted the station to resemble something out of the Jules Verne sci-fi novel, Nautilus.

While this station is served by lines 3 and 11, you must be on Line 11 to see the copper submarine.

It's time for Metro Mondays! In celebration of Halloween, we're giving you a little something different. Today's metro station is Haxo, a ghost station of the Paris metro system. A ghost station is a station that was closed during WWII and maybe reopened as another name, recycled, completely disappeared, or created but never used.

Built under Blvd Sérurier in the 19th, the Haxo station was intended to connect Place des Fêtes at Porte des Lilas. A decision was made (typcial French bureaucracy) to set up simple service direct shuttle buses between lines 3 and 7 from both stations. Well, travelers didn't like the shuttle either and that stopped service in 1939.

So what about the Haxo metro stop? It has never seen a single traveler as external access was never built! It currently serves as a place for artists to sneak down and practice their graffiti. Unofficially... ;-)

It's time for Metro Mondays! Today we're talking about Liège.

This station was first named Berlin upon its inauguration in 1911, after the nearby Rue Berlin, but changed its name to Liège during World War I. Liège is actually a city in Belgium, but was chosen as the name for the station (and the road above ground) to pay homage to all the men who fought during the war to resist the advances of the Germans.

In 1982 two artists from Liège redecorated the station giving you the stunning ceramic tiling depicting beautiful landscapes and the important landmarks of their province that you see in the station today.

Liège serves line 13.

It's Metro Mondays!! Today we're at Palais Royal.

Using the Place Collette entrance to the Palais Royal-Musee du Louvre station, you'll find an elaborately decorated entrance with arches of big glass beads. These beads are designed and situated to create the feeling of being under a cupola.

The structure was done by Jean-Michel Othoniel and is called the ‘Kiosk of the Night Walkers’. It was redesigned in 2000 to mark the 100 years since the initial inauguration of the station.

This station serves lines 1 and 7.

It's time for Metro Mondays!! Each and every Monday we'll give you a bit of info on some metro stations that you may pass thru on your commute.
Today's station is CONCORDE!

Many metro stations around Paris have beautiful tiled walls, but these created by Belgian artist, Françoise Schein, are styled like a word search puzzle. No punctuation is included, so you may miss your train trying to figure out exactly what the words represent. But don't fret, we have the secret! The letters spell out the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Man of 1789, copied in full over 49,000 enameled tiles covering the entire vaulted ceiling and walls.

This station serves 3 train lines, but to see the tiled walls, you must be on line 12.
