We also paused to reflect on 2019. It was an important year for us filled with joy but also challenges. Many thanks to all of you who were part of that journey with us.
Here are a few highlights from 2019.
✅ MIT Sloan Management Review's most-read article of 2019
In February, Chan Kim & Renée Mauborgne, the authors of Blue Ocean Strategy and Blue Ocean Shift, published a new ground-breaking article in MIT Sloan Management Review, "Nondisruptive Creation: Rethinking Innovation and Growth". It was the most-read article of 2019 in MIT Sloan Management Review.
Chan and Renée's research shows there is another path to growth beyond disruption, one that breaks the painful, zero-sum trade-off of disruption and offers a positive-sum approach to innovation and growth – nondisruptive creation. ✅ Creating the next generation of blue ocean business leaders
This past year the Blue Ocean High School Entrepreneurship Competition doubled its efforts to grow the mindset of 'creation, not competition' in our youngest friends – high school students. The result was outstanding. Started in 2014 by a high school student, the Blue Ocean High School Entrepreneurship Competition is now the largest virtual high school entrepreneurship competition in the world.
The competition gives high school students the opportunity to think in a blue ocean way to create business ideas, join a community of like-minded students, and compete for thousands in cash prizes.
Every year we are blown away by their ideas that not only can become viable businesses but also address important societal and environmental issues of today and tomorrow.
There is still time to join the competition this year – the registration and pitch submissions are open until Friday, February 7, 2020. Already students from 32 US states and 25 countries have registered.
Do you know any hard-working high school students who want to do something impressive and add something powerful to their resume? All they need is imaginative ideas and a phone to film their short pitch. Encourage them to join the competition. Here's how 👉 https://bit.ly/2QUgmwI
✅ The Blue Ocean Awards: Building blue ocean cities of tomorrow
This year, for the sixth time, we celebrated the most innovative, ambitious French entrepreneurs striving to create blue oceans. Under the auspices of the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Blue Ocean Awards gathered over 600 executives and simultaneously ran in both Paris and Bordeaux.
This year's theme was "How can cities shift out of red ocean competition to create blue ocean cities of tomorrow?" where growth is strong, jobs are created, and community is thriving.
The jury of top executives from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Dell, BNP Paribas, and venture capital companies among others recognized companies for creating new markets and having a positive impact on society. ✅ Most influential management thinkers in the world
The last decade ended with Chan Kim & Renée Mauborgne being ranked the "World's Most Influential Management Thinkers" by Thinkers50 for the global impact of blue ocean theory and practice – a position held previously by the likes of Peter Drucker, Michael Porter, CK Prahalad and Clayton Christensen.

✅ A new milestone
Last year we also learned that Blue Ocean Strategy has now sold over 4 million copies worldwide. A big THANK YOU to all of you that believed in blue ocean theory.
✅ Looking ahead to the new decade
Individually and collectively, we have the power to change and shape our futures and the world. Chan and Renée's blue ocean dream and our blue ocean dream is to live in a world where one's own gain doesn't come at the expense of another.
With this ideal in mind, we start 2020 with renewed energy and determination to find blue ocean solutions and help you advance on your own blue ocean journey.
Wishing you a joyful and prosperous year ahead!
