Tonight is student and faculty night!

Everyone has been working hard in rehearsal and it's time to show HSU some of the most talented people on campus! Alpha Phi Omega will be selling concessions and taking donations for Elise Ybarra's family today and tomorrow.

Elise Ybarra was a Abilene police officer who's watch ended August 6th, 2017 on her way to Dallas for a Crimes Against Children Conference. She leaves behind her husband and 10-month-old daughter. At this time we'd like to ask our HSU family to come together and show our love and support for the Ybarra family.
Saturday's concert is dedicated to Elise Ybarra.

In our spotlight this week is Dakota Medlin!

Dakota Medlin is an incoming junior and is a BFA Musical Theatre candidate from Granbury, TX. He has been seen in multiple productions at HSU, most recently in Godspell and The Addams Family, and was featured in the very first HSU Rocks his freshman year (pictured above) singing "Sherry," first performed by The Four Seasons. For this year's concert, he will be performing "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day and he says, "Green Day wasn't really a band I got into until I was in middle school, but this song has been one that I come back to because of the constant reminder that we 'walk alone' until we finally make that decision to venture out with someone else. Enjoy guys!"

In our spotlight this week is Nathan Lowe!
"Hello all, my name is Nathan Lowe and I am a Vocal Performance major here at Hardin-Simmons University. My father is in the United States Air Force so I have lived in numerous states across the nation. I currently live in San Antonio, Texas, and absolutely love it here. My previous music experience includes being a part of a few musicals in addition to numerous student recitals. The musicals I have had the opportunity to be a part of are Oklahoma! (Will Parker) in Michigan, The Little Mermaid (Ensemble) in San Antonio, The Addams Family (Ancestor) at HSU, and Godspell (Lamar/Telly) at HSU. I’m singing “You’re the Inspiration” because it was suggested to me by Dr. Tucker out of a small list of great tunes. Out of the list he suggested, I really loved the tune of this song in particular, and I found the lyrics to be sweet and uplifting. I hope you all enjoy this song as much as I have enjoyed preparing it!"

Sterling is a music business major at Hardin-Simmons University. She started singing when she was 3, entering local talent shows and choirs. Her love of music has only been enhanced over the years as she has continued to pursue a career involving commercial music. The song, Bottom of the River by Delta Rae is a different style of rock song. Using only a bass drum, a chain and barrels, drumsticks and vocals, it presents a different view of how music can be made!

Be sure to check her out at this years HSU Rocks along with many other talented students at Hardin-Simmons University.
