The vision and goals of the Southwest Virginia Robotics League are to: *Inspire more students to become engineers, scientists, and technicians. *Introduce and support a robotics based, informal education program that creates excitement about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Modest investments now can change young students’ education and career paths. Together, we can inspire tomorrow’s scientists and engineers, and improve students’ life skills to better prepare them for today’s high tech workplaces.

We manage to handle 29 teams and stay on schedule. This was the most teams we ever had, and it was the smoothest tournament.

Next year will be our tenth anniversary of hosting the lego tournament. I hope to see everyone back next year. If you have any ideas on how we can celebrate our tenth year, please let Nicky Rahley ([email protected]) know. Also, if you have any pictures you would like share, please send them to Nicky.

Are you ready for the 2015 TRASH TREK Challenge?

We’re not talking trash – we’re cleaning it up! In the 2015 FIRST® LEGO® League TRASH TREKSM Challenge, 290,000 children ages 9 to 14 will explore the fascinating world of trash. From collection, to sorting, to smart production and reuse, there is more to your trash than meets the eye. Join FIRST LEGO League teams on a Trash Trek to discover the hidden (or not so hidden) world of trash!

FIRST LEGO League (FLL®) challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers. During the TRASH TREKSM season, teams will choose and solve a real-world trash problem in the Project. They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under FLL’s signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.
