Hoping La Tormenta Tropical Elsa is leaving you intact, well drained and grateful. This image is from yesterday before the storm. We think of late season blueberries as Pie Berries: they are best eaten right away, or frozen. Late season berries are weathered by the rain and heat and tend to soften. Pick a half gallon (more than enough for a pie) this Saturday $12 or a full gallon $25. U cut flowers + greens still available, as well as picked peppers + tomatoes, and spring dipping. Details on the Blueberry Path page https://www.deepspringfarm.com/blueberry-path/. While you are there, subscribe to emails to receive subscriber only invitations. Love!

Impressed with City of Gainesville - Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) staff and volunteers for creating a wonderful experience for guests of the Cane Boil & FiddleFest. A crew of GNV parks and rec staff visited the farm last week to harvest organically grown sugarcane, as a donation to the event. Cane syrup was selling at the event for $5 per pint mason jar, with proceeds benefiting Morningside Nature Center. There was plenty more syrup being made as sustainably as possible (children powering the press, firewood heating the kettle) so don't let the foodies in your life go without this staple ingredient. Love Local!

Santa Fe Springs - Columbia County - Latest Acquisition!

On Wednesday, ACT completed the first of five acquisitions along the Santa Fe River & Olustee Creek. Once completed, 255 acres will be conserved forever along these magical waterways, including 2 springs.

Thanks to the incredibly generous support of a private family foundation, the Conservation Alliance, and many other community members, more than $1.2M of the $1.41M needed for the acquisitions have already been raised.

If you love to paddle, tube, fish, swim, or hike along the banks of the Santa Fe River please consider making a donation to ACT today to help us complete the remaining four acquisitions.

Save Santa Fe Spring! Do you know about the land conservation projects by Alachua Conservation Trust? Learning about and participating in saving land for biodiversity is a big part of DSF's mission. One of the projects seeking support right now is Rise up for the Santa Fe: https://www.alachuaconservationtrust.org/santa-fe-river-basin. This project will protect the dark and mysterious Santa Fe Spring on the upper Santa Fe River, north of Deep Spring Farm. From the latest ACT newsletter: "ACT...just launched our fundraising campaign for The Santa Fe Springs Project. The Santa Fe Springs Project will work to permanently protect 254-acres, 0.7 river miles, and two freshwater springs, and, if acquired, will be a free public preserve." Let's make this happen and leave a legacy of sustainability. Need a river experience? We'd be happy to go on a float with you on the wild and scenic Santa Fe. Thank you Our Santa Fe River, Florida Springs Institute, Ichetucknee Alliance and other partners in this project.

We hoped to invite you for a muscadine grape U pick this month, but wildlife (birds, squirrels, and possibly possums per Five Hammocks Farm experience) devoured more than their fair share. We will protect the irresistible grapes better in 2020. You are still welcome to come cool off. Deep Spring offers a refreshing, private experience. Experience cool and warm pockets of circulating water, but not cold like the Ichetucknee. The amber colored water is a heat sink, soaking up the sun's rays, the warmth being wonderfully conducive to relaxation. Lots of organic Genovese basil to cut for pesto, peppers, eggplant. Organic pumpkins for sale now, $5-10. Produce included in $10 guest activity fee (trades possible with producers) by RSVP via website (text/email).
***Roselle U pick begins in September.***
We are delighted to catch up with you at High Springs Brewing Company. It was foodie farmer night last night with Ash & Ember : Wood Fired Co., crafting the best pizza and pastries, and there were several of us foodie farmers taking it all in.
PS: Deliciously anticipating Black Sheep Farmhouse Brewery opening in High Springs. Stay tuned.

Ripe blueberries are still plentiful this week. It has been very helpful to the season for guests to pick just all blue blueberries, and leaving underripes to ripen. Alachua locals Randy and Pam picked 4 gallons today in 2 hours, and still smiling. It is post peak production, anticipating that this week will close out organic blueberry harvest 2019. Saturday 6/29/19 is the last picking morning of the season. RSVP per website to hold your place for any morning this week. It is possible that the patch can open next week for a pop up pick morning, such as the 4th of July, or a late afternoon pick and swim, but nature makes no promises. Picking blueberries has been a great success for pickers and the farm this Fathers Day weekend. Blueberries are plentiful right now (may not last past months end, depends on conditions). Many guests have been electing to picnic and even cool off in Deep Spring. Still many ripe berries that will be lost if not picked this weekend. You are welcome on Sunday AM by RSVP via website. Love!
