We had an excellent fair committee meeting last night. Welcome to our newest committee members Matt Backlas and Karyn Giltner. The committee planned out several big tasks from budgeting, to re-writing our member handbook, identifying ways to better communicate the "no dogs" policy, scheduling animal welfare and market auction meeting for October 25, and arranging to attend the NYSAAF convention in January.

Planning the fair never stops!

Sometime during fair week these baby birds hatched in the show arena. We'll take it as a sign of thriving! Thank you to all the people who made fair possible, a list of names would fill the internet but through our tired, foggy "fair brains" we know that it wouldn't have been possible to even dream of having without sponsorships, eager fairgoers, vendors willing to embrace an unknown year, youth giving it everything, and of course the crew of volunteers who make the fairgrounds a home for a week and each other a family.

Volunteers get barns and booths ready for next week’s fair | Orleans Hub

It's often hard to express the sheer numbers of hours volunteers and youth spend getting ready for the fair. We always want to remember that after the food, rides, and acts the most magical part of fair is getting to see a 4-Her show for the first time, or graduate out at their last show. Or watching them become lifelong friends in a food stand selling cheeseburgers. It's a time for all of us to come together and connect, and while there's a lot of stress and work it's worth it all. See you next week!

Photos by Tom Rivers KNOWLESVILLE – Ben Paratore was among the volunteers on Wednesday evening at a workbee to get the Orleans County 4-H Fairgrounds ready for next week’s return of the 4-H Fair. Ongoing work to get ready for opening day on the 26th!!! We've got new lights in some parking lots, rides starting to arrive, tents up, and a new sponsor sign. On a sad note our big beautiful ash tree by the rabbit barn was infested with ash borers and had to be removed.

As CEO of the Erie County Agricultural Society, Jessica Underberg, mentioned in the press conference following the cancellation of the 2020 Erie County Fair... "Our Ag Team is meeting as we speak to come up with an event for the youth"... and here it is folks! The WNY Youth in Ag Bonanza will be a “reduced spectator” series of livestock and animal shows that will take place on the Erie County Fairgrounds over the course of three weekends in August (8/6-8/8, 8/13- 8/15, 8/20-8/22). The goal of the program is to provide youth, who have had limited opportunities this summer to show and compete with their animals, a venue to keep the ag community growing during 2020. This event will not be open to the public but only for competitors and their immediate families. “Despite historic and unprecedented changes to summer traditions, the ECAS is committed to the youth of Western New York State who have worked with their animals for months,” said Underberg. Children involved in agriculture have invested their hearts, minds and financial resources into these youth development projects. It is our goal that the WNY Youth in Ag Bonanza will provide a hands-on learning experience that will continue to develop and recognize these hard-working children for their efforts. The show will take place in the designated agricultural zones on the Fairgrounds and will be open to all youth competitors from the eight Western New York Counties. These include Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Genesee, Orleans, Niagara and Wyoming. Competitors will be able to compete in livestock judging and showmanship with dogs, horses, dairy cattle, dairy goats, poultry, rabbits, beef cattle, llamas, swine and sheep. We are excited to be able to bring you this opportunity this summer! Stay tuned to this page and the website http://www.the-fairgrounds.com/wnyyouthagbonanza/ for more information!
What time are you open tomorrow? 🙃
Any way to get details for showing rabbits?
How do kids enter the cooking competition?
Our small county puts on a great fair. I recommend looking at the children's projects in the Trolley Building. Oh and Knowlesville Beef on Weck and Salt Potatoes.
NOTHING is easy about signing animals and kids up for fair!!! Why in the hell do they have to keep changing everything?!?!? It’s getting to the point where it isn’t fun anymore!!! Ugh!!! What happened to the greatest little fair ? This is a sentiment from one of my 4H parents. Let's have more rules and less fun !!!!!!😢😢
Does the Orleans County 4-H Fair have a policy prohibiting vendor sales of the Confederate flag?
I made my own Kid Clover Breakfast Sandwich this morning-thinking about the Orleans County 4H Fair. The Senior Council Stand will have a variety of breakfast choices 8am-11am. Kid Clover meal is a known favorite! 😋 🍳 ☘️
Perhaps Fair leadership would comment about Fair policy concerning vendor sales of Confederate Battle Flags and related merchandise. Hate should have no place at the Fair.
Good Tuesday morning to you from the fair!
