“...the Aquarium reopening is being paused to ensure full compliance with state public health orders.”

While indoor spaces, including the Penguin Chill, BUGarium, and reptile buildings at the ABQ BioPark Zoo and Botanic Garden are set to reopen tomorrow, October 1, the Aquarium reopening is being paused to ensure full compliance with state public health orders.

It was announced earlier this week that all indoor spaces at the BioPark would reopen.

"During the excitement of reopening indoor spaces and welcoming the public back to the BioPark, we unfortunately overlooked the fact that aquariums are not yet permitted to reopen per state health orders," said Dr. Shelle Sanchez, director of Cultural Services Department. "We continue to look forward to the day the Aquarium can reopen and when our visitors can come see some exciting additions. We are committed to reopening our spaces in the safest way possible and appreciate the State's continued guidance."

Those who have already purchased tickets to the Aquarium will automatically receive refunds.

Starting tomorrow, indoor spaces including Penguin Chill and the reptile building at the Zoo as well as the BUGarium at the Botanic Garden will open at limited capacity. Because of capacity limitations indoors, a ticket to the BioPark does not guarantee access to the indoor habitats.

The hours for all ticketed BioPark facilities are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Tuesdays-Sundays. The BioPark will remain closed on Mondays. Learn more about reopening and ticketing here- bit.ly/3mYYw93

Ahhh...Vitamin Zen 💚

This #TranquilityTuesday we take you to the Sasebo Japanese Garden. The four-acre Sasebo Japanese Garden hosts a majestic waterfall, an elegant koi pond and a mixture of Japanese and local plants. Stone lanterns and pagoda sculptures dot the grounds and stone and wooden bridges straddle small streams.

Upon entering the garden, you'll walk past the large bell tower, through huge wooden gates, and along immaculately manicured paths. You'll be surrounded by traditional Japanese plants, along with native New Mexican trees pruned and sculpted in the Japanese aesthetic.

The Sasebo Japanese Garden is included with general admission to the Botanic Garden. Reserve your tickets online now!

The new Birds of the Islands exhibit is right on the Zoo's one-way path experience! Read more about this new addition and its residents below.

Don't forget to buy your tickets or reserve your member visit in advance at abqbiopark.holdmyticket.com

There's a brand new exhibit at the ABQ BioPark Zoo, Birds of the Islands! 🦜🌴

Birds of the world’s islands are barely holding on for their life. While only 10 percent of the globe’s feathered species live on islands, they represent about half of all threatened birds in the world, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

That’s why the ABQ BioPark wanted to dedicate a new exhibit exclusively to island birds to talk about their plight and what’s being done to give these birds a helping hand.

All week we will be introducing the stars of the exhibit. Today, we feature the Princess of Wales Parakeet! This species is one of Australia's least known parrots because it is so elusive. Nomadic, the birds arrive in small groups to breed and then disappear.

Visit the new Birds of the Islands on your next trip to the Zoo!!

It was sort of funny this afternoon to see Bugs with braids in his hair.
There are 3 of this species at Tingley Beach. A web search of ducks and geese doesn't show a match. Can they be a crossbreed?

This evening I saw the female range free turkey back in the enclosure with Pavo.
