We are currently - as individuals, companies and an industry - stretched out of our comfort zone. In fact, we are being stretched in every possible way - personally, professionally and, for many, financially.
But remember the rubber band. When we are stretched, we grow.
I went out for a run yesterday and the day before that and the day before that and - holy guacamole - the roads were packed with runners and walkers and cyclists. Packed like I haven't seen in awhile.
Take the opportunity to run, walk, bike and tap into what makes you happy --- sane.
So for those who are just beginning, welcome. I believe you will have a better understanding of why NM is the Land of Enchantment as you navigate the pedestrian paths, roads and trails. Just don't forget to stretch!
RunFit, stay safe and together we will beat this..... We look forward to time you will join us at a live RunFit event.

Someday soon we are going to get through this. We are going to have social gatherings and athletic events once again. And one day down the road, we will be sitting around with others talking about how we acted during the global pandemic of 2020.
I trust and hope that, in the words of Winston Churchill, we will look back upon this time as our finest hour. When response to a virus tried to destroy our economy, destroy our industry, and destroy our spirit, but we did not back down. We were strengthened. Despite everything working against us, we rose above the fear and we built a better tomorrow.

We look forward to seeing you at the starting line in what I hope is the not too distant future. We will know more in June and/or July with hopes of being able to be back in August. Until then, be safe, continue to run and stay healthy. RunFit!

Hello Friend,

I've been thinking about you and the incredibly awesome running community we have here in the Land of Enchantment. The incredible community of runners and walkers of all ages who are still running the trails, bike paths and roads throughout the city keeping their distance but enjoying the alone time with a friend or by themselves. I can’t help but notice the families walking the neighborhoods – some I have never seen but are a true testament to healing power of a good walk or run in times of uncertainty. You are the best! My wife, Paulina, and I can’t help but thank you for the adventure and the many events we have shared over the years. We look forward to seeing you in what I hope is the not so distant future. You are the best!

The last few weeks have been excruciatingly difficult for all of us. Way too many losses to list. I'm still logging the miles in order to de-stress. I'm not a big podcast guy, but I highly recommend a new podcast called "Unlocking Us" by Brene Brown. During my runs, Brene has shared helpful ways to cope through the collective grief we share in this new normal. Step one, as Brene preaches it, is to name how you are feeling (and so on).

We are taking it week by week. We still are not sure when our next event will be. We are targeting late May or early June. It's too early to tell. But it's important for you to know that we are starting to look at all of the alternatives. Be rest assured, we will be back and ready to run!

In the meantime, take deep breaths, be good to yourself, and listen to the advice from Brene Brown.

Please don’t forget:

This Saturday, we have the chance to join in a virtual movement event that will span this country and the globe. Movement and community - two powerful medicines we need to keep in our lives at this moment, and here is our chance to build both on April 11th.

There will be a Facebook Live welcome and stretching session at 10am EST, 7am PCT if you want to join in. Please take 30 seconds to log you (and your family's movement so you are counted. You will see our organization (RunFit) listed, so log your movement on our behalf!

Dear Participants,

We are sorry to inform you that for the first time in our history of our event, RunFit has cancelled the NM Shamrock Shuffle, which was to be held on Sunday, March 13, 2020 at Rio Rancho Aquatic Center and Loma Colorado Park. The need to cancel the event was made this morning by city officials.

The safety and wellbeing of our event participants, volunteers, event staff, and spectators is always our top priority. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the unique impact it continues to pose to our community, we have made the decision in partnership with the City of Rio Rancho and local public health authorities to cancel the 2020 NM Shamrock Shuffle.

We would like to extend to all of our registered participants for the NM Shamrock Shuffle an opportunity to run in our Rio Rancho Red White and Blue Run scheduled for July 4, 2020. The run/walk includes a 10K, 4-Mile and Kids K. The participant information from your NM Shamrock Shuffle will be used as your registration information. There will be no need to “re-register.” Note: 10-Miler registrants will be able to change their registration to the 10K or 4-Miler at Packet Pickup or race morning.

Virtual Run: Participants who would like to participate in our NM Shamrock Shuffle Virtual Run will be given the opportunity to run our virtual run. You pick the time and place to run your distance during the month of March 2020 and we will mail all out of town runners or walkers your NM Shamrock Shuffle T. Shirt and medal. All others can pickup at Fleet Feet Sports upon completion of your run. If you are able to pickup your event shirt during the times list below, we will mail all out of town virtual participants their medal.

Note: We encourage you to stop by the Fleet Feet Sports to pick up your Shamrock Shuffle T. Shirt Saturday, March 14 through Sunday, March 22, 2020

12-5 pm.

NM Hobbler Gobbler Thanksgiving Day Run - Cancelled!

Dear Participants,

We are sorry to inform you that for the first time in our history of our event, RunFit has cancelled the NM Hobbler Gobbler Thanksgiving Day Run, which was to be held on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at Rio Rancho Aquatic Center and Loma Colorado Park.

Following the consultation with local authorities and event organizers, it was determined that the extensive snow has caused unsafe conditions for the race. The decision to cancel was for the safety of all our participants, volunteers and staff. Safety is our number one priority, and even though we are extremely disappointed to cancel the event, we felt it was the most responsible decision due to the unpredictability of the ever changing weather from less than one inch of accumulation to 4 to 7 all in the span of a few hours!

We would like to extend to all of our registered participants for the NM Hobbler Gobbler Participants an opportunity to run in our Kringle Jingle “Santa Run” scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2019. The run/walk includes a 10K, 5K and Kids K. The participant information from your NM Hobbler Gobbler Run will be used as your registration information. There will be no need to “re-register.”

Our Story

RunFit launched the spring of 2006 as a bold initiative aimed at curbing the growing epidemic of childhood obesity by creating a running and/or walking program for children at after-school (or before school) programs across the district. The program is provided free to public and private elementary schools, as well as homeschools. Physical educators, classroom teachers, and parents can incorporate RunFit into their curriculum, after school programs, and at home with their families. RunFit is a not for profit organization designed to help youth of all sizes, fitness and ability levels utilize the discipline of running to improve health, build character and provide opportunities for children to showcase their talents by participating in a number of RunFit sponsored events throughout the community,” said RunFit founder Stephen Pino. “Before, During and Afterschool programs such as RunFit play a vital role in the lives our communities by keeping kids’ safe, creating healthy habits and helping working families.” RunFit is a fun program which motivates and trains children 5-13 to run one mile to 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) through active participation on a RunFit team. Participants learn to set and achieve challenging personal goals and are awarded incentives for attendance and improvement and culminating in local RunFit running events. RunFit, while intended to be physically challenging, is designed for children of all fitness and athletic levels. RunFit provides opportunities to assist schools with their school sponsored jog-a-thons. While RunFit is designed for elementary aged children, parents are encouraged to participate. To learn more how your school can get involved, please contact us at: [email protected]

Have finished another of these very fun IRunFit Virtual Runs -- Chunky Monkey 5K. And here I am resting in my driveway wall. Always plan these virtual to end as close as possible to my house.
July 4th: Red, White, and Blue Run. My running partner, Lee Goodwin (66), and I ran 4 miles along the east side Pojoaque access road, following part of the Santa Fe Thunder half-marathon route. We've been trail running up here in Chimayo, Arroyo Seco, and Lower San Pedro, so this road-running, trying to keep a race pace was quite a challenge. Lee ended up with a 31:45, and I ran a 33:00 flat. He kept a faster pace, so was always ahead of me (our attempt at social distancing?). The photo of me actually finishing, Lee missed my body, so I include my foot as I went past Lee (who had already completed the run).
Finished another IRunFit Virtual Run -- the Red, White, & Blue 4 Mile -- a bit earlier this morning. These virtual events are fun. BTW, been running around Altura Park for about 40 yrs.
Here I am at the Albuquerque Botanical Gardens, finishing up my 5k Cherry Garcia Virtual Run (I walked)--on Father's Day.
