Meet Ida B. Wells-Barnett!
She was a civil rights advocate, journalist, feminist and an active fighter for women’s suffrage, particularly for Black women. On January 30, 1913 Wells-Barnett founded the Alpha Suffrage Club in Chicago and played a crucial role in the victory of women’s suffrage in Illinois with the passage of the Illinois Equal Suffrage Act. The club organized women in the city to elect candidates who would best serve the Black community. As president of the club, Wells-Barnett was invited to march in the 1913 Suffrage Parade in Washington, DC. Organizers, afraid of offending Southern white suffragists, asked women of color to march at the back of the parade. She famously refused, instead, she stood on the parade sidelines until the Chicago contingent of white women passed, at which point she joined the march. She was also a founder of the National Association of Colored Women’s Club which was created to address issues dealing with civil rights and women’s suffrage.

Meet Sojourner Truth!
Born into slavery in 1797, Isabella Baumfree, who later changed her name to Sojourner Truth, would become one of the most powerful advocates for human rights in the nineteenth century. Sojourner Truth participated in the debates over which group should get suffrage first—black men or women. Known for her 1851 “Ain’t I A Woman?” speech, in 1867, the former slave and activist declared: “If colored men get their rights, and not colored women theirs, you see the colored men will be masters over the women, and it will be just as bad as it was before.” Having experienced unequal pay due to her gender, she became concerned with women’s economic prosperity.

Meet Zitkala- Ša!
She became an accomplished author, musician, composer, and dedicated worker for the reform of United States Indian policies. She was instrumental in legislation favorable to Indians and spent a great deal of her time among the Native Americans in an attempt to educate and organize them for greater strength through unity. She founded and served as president, fundraiser and speaker of the National Council of American Indians until her death in 1938. The Council worked to unite the tribes across the United States to gain suffrage for all Indians. She also worked with white suffrage groups and was active in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs beginning in 1921.

The New Mexico Aquarium Society is hosting the very first fish swap in the state of New Mexico. A fish swap is a fun event where local hobbyists and vendors can buy, sale or swap fish, coral, aquarium plants and pond related items. This will be a great opportunity to join the only fish club in New Mexico. The swap will be held at Mud Monsters 5101 Edith Blvd. Albuquerque, NM 87107. March 14, 2020 starting at 1PM and concluding at 4PM.
My Santa services are available this holiday season.
This Sunday we have this special workshop with the focus being on Soul Retrieval & Healing Trauma. We hope you will join if you are able! https://www.facebook.com/events/2469369866608413/
The 'Holy Walkamolies '... would like invite everyone, to come their Ice Bucket Challenge. All the money raised, will go towards The Walk to Benefit ALS. The event will be from 11am to 1 pm. Hamburgers and hot dogs available for $5. Lots of fun...bring a friend. Challenge each other to the Ice Bucket Challenge. Thanks to Border States Electric...for hosting the event. And thanks to a few local radio celebrities...who are willing to come out and host the event. There will be people from the New Mexico ALS Chapter, ready to assist everyone in registering for the walk on, September 22nd. Thank you all. I'll see you there.
We are so close!! My name is Yvette and I was diagnosed with ALS almost 4 years ago. I am a fighter and no where close to giving up. Each year, the ALS community holds various fundraisers...in order to raise Awareness and collect donations, so scientists can find a cure. You see....there is NO CURE! ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, slowly robs a person of their independence and life expectancy is 2-5 years. In fact, every 90-minutes, someone is either diagnosed with ALS or passes away from this horrible disease. It affects the lives of so many people. ALS takes away your ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe...literally turning a person into stone. September 22nd, Albuquerque will be hosting The Walk To Defeat ALS, at the Isotopes Park. It is a great way for people to come out and show their support, while raising money for a cure. Will you help? My team, "The Holy Walkamolies", will be walking for the 4th year and I'm looking for team members and donations. You can register to be a part of the fun online, it is simple, painless and free. Join an existing team or create your own team. If you can't make the walk, perhaps you will consider joining a team and becoming a virtual walker. Donate what you can afford and help spread the word. Everyone can make a difference. I hope to see you there.
