About Allen Public Library

Mayor Gentry Jones proclaimed Allen Public Library Day on October 22, 1967, when the Allen Public Library (APL) first opened its doors as an all-volunteer organization. The library became a city department in 1971. In February 2005, the library opened in its current location at 300 North Allen Drive.

This 54,000 square-foot, two-story facility serves as the main hub for the community’s cultural, informational and learning needs. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life of our users by supporting their life-long learning and informational needs. We do this by offering programs for various user groups in our community, and by providing programs and services to meet the cultural and educational needs and interests of Allen.

We strive to be a welcoming place that inspires the mind.

Thank you so the friendly and kind librarian who brought me a water bottle and a cookie when I was stranded in the parking lot with a dead car battery! So very nice!!

I went to the library today to pick up the books that I requested after I received a text from you. I was the first in line, but the last to get my books because they did not have a record of my call (3 times). I don't think the people behind my car were too happy about me staying put as they already had their books. I also only got three books instead of the four I requested. I hope that one does not get put back on the shelf before I can get there again as I live 25 miles from the library. My apology to the patrons who were in back of me. :)
Happy National Library Workers Day to all of the wonderful librarians and staff of Allen Public Library who provide such fantastic content to all of us, even while we shelter in place! Thank you for all you do...We appreciate you! 😊
Loving story time!

“Whimsical, thought-provoking, deftly crafted, "This Is Me, Not Robert Creeley, Speaking " clearly showcases Paul Bussan's genuine flair for deftly crafted, succinct, and memorable free verse. This brief compendium of his work is very highly recommended for personal reading lists.” -The Midwest Book Review, June, 2017
