Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) became an official federal holiday in 1971. Since its inception, this profoundly meaningful holiday allows us to reflect on all the brave men and women that lost their lives while serving in the U.S. military.

Under normal circumstances, the United Air Force Strings proudly performs sold-out Memorial Day concerts at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for the public in Washington D.C., however due to our current situation are unable to do so. Instead, we hope you enjoy this performance of a favorite tune in our repertoire, "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Ungar, a beautiful waltz familiar to both string players and fans of the Ken Burns's PBS series "The Civil War."

We offer this performance as a musical salute to our fallen heroes that gave the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and guaranteering our freedom.
