How to Prepare for an Audition - 11/17/20

Great info from Alton Youth Symphony!

This year the Board of Directors for the Alton Youth Symphony has decided to forgo our in-person rehearsals for interactive Zoom sessions and presentations/Q&A Sessions with various professionals in the music field. We would like to extend this opportunity to all students in the greater Alton area, not just those that were in our organization in the previous year since we are not holding auditions this fall.

Every Tuesday from September 15th to November 17th we will be holding a Zoom session on a particular topic. Your students can register for each of these sessions by clicking on the Google Form link below and putting in an email address to reach them. For each session that is NOT a Q&A session, the students will need their instruments available. The full schedule is available below, as well as on our website.

"AMS Orchestra Parents and Students,

To prepare for orchestra this remote first quarter your instruments need to be tuned and checked by your orchestra teachers. Please bring in and drop off your orchestra instrument to the AMS annex lobby on Monday, August 17 from 8:00am-3:00pm or Tuesday, August 18 from 8:00am-3:00pm. Please make sure your instrument is well marked with your name. The instruments will be inspected, tuned and, in the case of school owned instruments, checked back into the system for reissue. If you are renting a school owned instrument this year more information about rental fees (if applicable) and rental agreements will be given through email and Google Classroom at a later date. Instruments can be picked up again when you come for the AMS open house.

We would like to see all instruments, even those personally owned, for tuning. If you feel like you can tune your instrument yourself, please email Mrs. Pierce or Ms. Wolfford to be cleared. If you have any questions or need to make other arrangements please email Mrs. [email protected]. org or Ms. [email protected] altonschools.org Thank you!"

The mission of the Alton School District is to prepare our students with college, career and citizenship skills through a safe and progressive learning environment.

Solo & Ensemble is postponed due to Health Department Recommendations. Watch this page for updates

Directors:

Based on recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois Grade School Music Association - Southern Division is going to postpone the District Level Solo/Ensemble Contests scheduled for the weekend of March 13 and 14.

This is unfortunate as many students have worked towards this contest and have spent a great deal of time in preparation for these events. Based on this knowledge, we will try to reschedule these contests upon receiving further information/recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Please watch for e-mail communication from your contest hosts regarding the rescheduled dates in the next couple of weeks.

Please note, this message is only regarding the contests that had been scheduled by IGSMA South. This is not a decision to cancel schools and those decisions will be made by local school districts/officials and information will be disseminated by each individual school district on an as-needed basis.

If you have any questions/concerns regarding this decision, please feel free to contact the Illinois Grade School Music Association - Southern Division President, Dennis Carter, at [email protected].

Sincerely,
Dennis Carter

05/14/2019

These are all of the beautiful flowers i received from the Coffee concert Friday night. It was a very bittersweet night as i said goodbye to my district of 14 years. I absolutely love my Alton family, including all of the students I have had during that time. My students will forever be referred to as “my kids” and some have even crossed into the friend zone 😉 Since having a chance to reflect on Friday night i have to say that it was perfect. The concert went well, the donations for the charity were the most we’ve ever had, and the Alum turnout was impressive and humbling. I’m scared for this next chapter but know that God’s got this and i trust Him completely. My faith has gotten stronger through the entire process of making this decision and has also brought my husband and i closer to each other and to Him. I’m excited and nervous for what is to come but know deep down this is the right the decision. To my students, I will always love you and support you. You have been a huge part of my life. You’ve helped me through some hard times, given me happy times (including performing at All state w Jazzios), seen me be pregnant with my kiddos, and have accepted me in all my sarcasm and dry sense of humor. My coworkers have become extended family. I feel like I’m breaking up the dynamic duo but she knows I’ll always support her and she can text me anytime. Like a former student said, it’s the “end of an era”. And what a way to go.... A part of my heart will always be with ACUSD11 #foreveraredbird
