Chamber Music Amarillo is excited about our upcoming 23rd season. Dates and programs will be announced soon. We are grateful for the continued support from our community for all these years. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we were unable to host you at our major annual fundraiser this spring. Our daily operations, concerts and community outreach depend upon the funds raised from that event. We are proud to have such gracious Legacy Partner donors and Major Corporate partners who have created a challenge to match the $25,000 they have given in support of our upcoming season. We understand that many in the arts are in need of support during this unprecedented time in history and we appreciate your consideration to support our mission. If you would like to contribute to this challenge please visit our website at www.cmama.org/general-donations

As our mission states, CMA works to provide world class concerts to increase opportunities for all people in our community including seniors and the youth, to participate in and experience the arts. We stand against intolerance, violence and discrimination toward Black Americans, other people of color and all ethnic backgrounds. We reaffirm that we are an organization that values black lives around the world and in our community including CMA artists, colleagues and our neighbors in the San Jacinto neighborhood. There is still work to be done in our industry and we are ready to listen, learn and support our community.

Although we're disappointed that we won't be performing for you tonight—as we had been looking forward to for so long—we know that Missa Solemnis lives on. We can't wait to share the stage together again and we're still working to bring this incredible piece of music home to the Texas Panhandle soon.

Las cuatro estaciones porteñas(The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires) Astor Piazzolla. Tango. In the minds of many, the composer and the dance are inextricably linked. Although he did not invent the tango, it is quite possible that, without Piazzolla, the dance might still be a regional curiosity instead of an international expression of (to steal from G.B. Shaw), “a horizontal desire.” Because of his training, Piazzolla lent a weight to the dance that has given it a transcendent place in Western Art Music history. Piazzolla is one of a who’s who of 20th century composers who would make the pilgrimage to Paris to study with Nadia Boulanger. The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires began life as four piano pieces: verano (Summer, 1964), otono (Autumn, 1969), primavera (Spring, 1970) and ivierno (Winter, 1970). It was violinist Gidon Kremer who commissioned this version from Russian composer Leonid Desyatnikov (1955- ). Kremer had in mind performing Piazzolla’s work alongside Vivaldi’s more famous Four Seasons. The listener might fancy that he/she hears some references to the older work in the newer. These are not simply flights of fancy. Piazzolla has, in fact, included some brief, and some substantial quotes from the master Vivaldi. Program notes provided by composer, John Boyle Jr.
