Good evening Houston parents,

We have a new dismissal routine to ensure the health and safety of everyone on campus.

6th graders need to be picked up at the front of the building at the circle drive, 7th graders need to be pick up in the south parking lot closest to the park, and 8th graders need to be pick up at the north parking lot by the gym area. Students need to be picked up by 4:00 pm. If you have children in different grade levels, they need to have a designated location to meet. Please call our office at 326-3600 if you have any questions.

Some people like masks 🙂 and some don’t.🤪 Some agree with wearing masks 👍 and others don’t.👎 But what we know is that when everyone in a school wears a mask, students are more likely to be able to continue to come to school. In all the guidance we have received, the one recommendation we hear over and over is that masks reduce the need for quarantines and closures. Masks will help keep students and teachers in classrooms. For that reason, Amarillo ISD will require all students, grades pre-K through 12, to wear masks while at school. We truly believe this change, when layered with other precautions we have implemented, is our best defense in keeping school buildings safe and open. 😷❤️☀️😎

Parents, we want you to know that when all students and staff wear masks, your student is more likely to be able to continue to attend school in person. Why? Because wearing masks greatly reduces the chance that the local health department will ask students to quarantine at home or close our school building. For that reason, all students in our school will be required to wear masks. We thank you for entrusting your child to us and we take that responsibility to heart. That’s why we feel this is best for our school and community. If you have any questions, we’re happy to help.

This is a message from Miss Pecht, the band director at Sam Houston Middle School. We will have a drive up instrument selection on Saturday, August 15 from 1:00-3:30 pm at Houston Middle School with a few changes due to the current situation. Our instrument selection will take place in the front driveway of the school. In order to help us, we would like you and your child to reserve a spot for instrument testing. Please call the band office: 326.3620 to indicate your time preference. We have 20min spots available starting at 1:00pm.

During your scheduled instrument selection meeting time, band staff will bring different mouthpieces to your car window for your child to try and our percussion instructor will meet with any student who is interested in percussion. All adults will have masks, hand sanitizer, and the mouthpieces we use will be sanitized according to CDC guidelines. We ask that anyone in the car, except for the beginning band member, please wear a face mask to help protect everyone.
Information regarding how to rent an instrument and get the required supplies will be handed out and also emailed out once the selection process is completed. We will also have a representative from the local music store in case you have any questions.

Students should select two instruments from the following that they are interested in playing: Flute, Clarinet (both woodwind instruments), Trumpet, Trombone (our brass instruments), and Percussion. If you are interested in percussion, please have a back up instrument selected. Students who make the percussion class will be notified after our Instrument Placement this Saturday. We look forward to meeting you on Saturday!
