Our judges have been hard at work judging designer entries digitally! Entries will be displayed and category winners will be announced through the AESHM Department website on May 6th. ✨ We’d like to introduce you to our fourth and final judge, Erin Pepe! Erin graduated from Iowa State in 2004 and is currently the Senior Vice President of Digital and Marketing at Zadig and Voltaire.
We asked Erin: What advice do you have for students that are hoping to pursue a career in Merchandising?
"Retail math and excel are very important and an absolute must, you'll use both more than you can ever imagine. But you either have it or you don't. You either understand your product or "get it" or you don't. Having that instinct and understanding of what the customer wants to actually buy and how they actually want to see it doesn't just come to everyone. It's very easy to get swept up in the creative and emotional brand story each season and get excited about the line. It's hard to separate yourself from that, but a good merchant has to put on their consumer hat and be realistic about what from that runway the people will actually buy into in a meaningful way and what is just good for editorial and sprinkle in. They're rarely the same things, and finding the right balance in your end selection is a hard balancing act.” #TFS2020
