In your mind, what is the ideal image of a celebration?
In my mind, the ideal image of a celebration is people having fun. The atmosphere has music and engages people to want to come in and participate. The celebration celebrates something that is monumental or exciting. It also has activities in which people can participate in. People are having fun and also learning about what is being celebrated. Overall, a celebration is a fun party that celebrates something awesome with fun things!

What excites you most about Human Sciences Week 2018? What excites me most about Human Sciences Week 2018 is the new spin on what has already been done. I believe we are going to have some unique events that students from all different colleges can participate in and learn through! I’m excited to see people having fun while learning about the amazing majors and things the College of Human Sciences does.

Why will Human Sciences Week 2018 be one to remember? Human Sciences Week 2018 will be one to remember because the events will be fun things that have not really been done around campus before. We are going to have a record turn out and spread the word of the amazing things the College of Human Sciences does!

In your mind, what is the ideal image of a celebration? Coming together, setting aside differences and sharing positive, open communication. A celebration emphasizes curiosity, fun, and connectedness. Celebrations are about recognizing past successes, rewarding yourself in the present moment, and looking towards the future with excitement.

What excites you most about Human Sciences Week 2018? Bringing together the ISU community, within and without the Colleges of Human Sciences, to celebrate the unique qualities and gifts that each individual has to offer. I’m excited to celebrate how the College of Human Sciences contributes to the mission of the University as a whole; create, share, and apply knowledge to make Iowa and the world a better place.

Why will Human Sciences Week 2018 be one to remember? Human Sciences Week 2018 will remind ISU students, faculty, and staff of the innate goodness of all people and break down barriers between individuals, reminding us of what we all have in common; we are all creatures of love.

PS. Welcome back from Germany, Allison! 😁

Allison Gress
College: College of Human Sciences

Position: Operations Director

In your mind, what is the ideal image of a celebration?
To me, a celebration is a fun, interactive event with many diverse activities for people to participate in. I really enjoy participating in celebrations with great music, food and lots of interactive, sometimes goofy games.

What excites you most about Human Sciences Week 2018? I am most excited about the connections we will be able to make with people from all of the different colleges at Iowa State University as well as throughout the Ames Community. I am also excited that HSW 2018 will help us get the College of Human Sciences name out in the community in a positive and fun manner.

Why will Human Sciences Week 2018 be one to remember? Human Sciences Week 2018 will be one to remember because our events will be able to connect us with people from all walks of life. The events will be exciting and new because we are just now starting to get our name out there. With the memories we will leave with each individual that participates, will also leave a positive impact.

In your mind, what is the ideal image of a celebration?
My image would be seeing people from all backgrounds conversing with one another, having fun and learning something new!

What excites you most about Human Sciences Week 2018? I’m more excited in the fact that I’m helping a college that I’m not apart of. Our team this year has a crazy amount of talent and motivation that I look forward to seeing be put into action.

Why will Human Sciences Week 2018 be one to remember? We are re-branding the image of this celebration with our own style! We’re all working hard to make this one new in its own way. This team is putting out the message of how everyone is connected and we plan on showing this through Human Sciences Week.

In your mind, what is the ideal image of a celebration? The ideal image of a celebration is one that brings people together.

You need to know who we are (cuz' we're pretty great)! We will be posting a series of profiles on each of our HSW '18 Student Leadership Team members. First up are our Co-Chairs Kayla Morehead and Ryan True. You can find all of these profiles on our website:

https://www.hs.iastate.edu/hs-week/student-leadership-team/

Kayla Morehead

College: College of Human Sciences
Major: Dietetics
Year: Junior
Position: Co-Chair

In your mind, what is the ideal image of a celebration? Having as many as possible able to come together to honor an achievement/success. Being able to have a genuinely fun time, while also meeting new people and hopefully even learning something new about the achievement being celebrated! A celebration should be an exciting and positive experience for all involved.

What excites you most about Human Sciences Week 2018? We’re celebrating humans, in all of our diversity yet wholeness as a group. I just think it’s amazing that the idea of individuality amongst us all is also what connects us to one another. We are able to spend a week celebrating our diversity, but also, how much we all may have in common as well.

Why will Human Sciences Week 2018 be one to remember? There have been some changes made to structure and overall objectives our Student Leadership Team holds, but change brings new possibilities- and I strongly believe that our plans and goals for HSW ’18 will provide an inclusive feel throughout both Ames and Iowa State University; and because we are celebrating humans, this will be an amazing achievement.

Ryan True

College: College of Human Sciences
Major: Kinesiology
Year: Junior
Position: Co-Chair

In your mind, what is the ideal image of a celebration? To me, an ideal celebration is one without someone at the door who asks, “Who do you know here?” A celebration is one that welcomes everyone no matter who you know or don’t know, how you dress, or how you act. A celebration is meant to be inviting not excluding.

What excites you most about Human Sciences Week 2018? What excites me most about this celebration is the fact that it is a way for my peers to be recognized for the amazing acts that they perform on a day to day basis. The College of Human Sciences is full of hard-working scientists who deserve this recognition

Why will Human Sciences Week 2018 be one to remember? HSWeek ’18 will be one to remember because of one of the goals our leadership team has in mind: include the Iowa State and Ames communities in our college’s celebration. We really want to make this week a celebration of humans not just the members of the college and I think this will attract a large audience.

comPASSION for CONNECTION

The theme of Human Sciences Week 2018 is our purpose and our objective. As social beings, humans must have CONNECTION. It is a fundamental need. The students, faculty, and staff in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University understand this and strive to expand human connection in everything they do. Human Sciences Week contends that comPASSION is the most honest way to experience true human CONNECTION. Our celebration is an expression of that. Join us at Iowa State or wherever you may be October 8-12th for Human Sciences Week 2018 and let’s express comPASSION for CONNECTION.
