We had an extra busy and fun weekend last weekend at 'The Morris the Horse' trials at FENCE! Marissa and Bear put in 3 solid phases and won their Novice division. Marla and Missy had a great go despite a kidney infection but a cheap rail in stadium dropped them out of the ribbons. Allison and Bella finished their first horse trial on their dressage score and won their starter division with Lara and Mr Russell having 3 solid goes but finishing just out of the ribbons in 9th place. Susan, Sophie and Ally traveled to Stable View for the Eventing Academy series. Susan and Drey and Sophie and Donna beasted all 3 phases and won their Beginner Novice and Starter divisions, respectively. Ally and Charlie are continuing to improve their dressage and moved up to 4th in their Beginner Novice division. Go SHF!

What a weekend at Poplar Place Farm Area 3 Eventing Championships! Marissa and Bear won the Junior Novice championships! Marla and Missy were 4th in the Senior Beginner Novice Rider championships, Ally and Charlie put in a solid dressage test for 17th place but moved up to 13th after stadium then to 9th after xc in true eventer fashion with double clear jumping in her Junior Beginner Novice division. In the regular horse trials Olivia and Dean rocked their xc to finish in 2nd Preliminary Rider, Sol and Wiamea finished 2nd in their Beginner Novice division, Lara and Mr Russell also moved up to 3rd from dropping to 9th after a cheap rail in stadium in their Starter division, Sophie and Donna were leading after dressage and also got a 10 for the free walk then a silly spook on xc took some time so they finished in 5th. Heather and her handsome boy competed at Windridge and finished 2nd in their Beginner Novice division! Go SHF!

What a weekend at TIEC! Eventing is hard and sometimes it all comes together and other times, well.... Marissa and Bear finished on first on their dressage score in their Novice division with lovely goes in all 3 phases. Marla and Missy finished 6th in their Beginner Novice division, Marla did a great job of keeping Missy focused in dressage in the atmosphere and next to the derby field. This pair is currently 2nd in the USA Master BN Rider ๐Ÿ’ช. Ally and Charlie continue to improve their dressage skills and form a partnership. Unfortunately Ally was distracted on xc and missed a jump. Go SHF!

More fun at the Windridge Horse Trial this past weekend. Sol and Waimea won their Novice division on their dressage score. Sol really got a great balance w Waimea in the dressage now to get that more consistently jumping! Marla and Missy finished in 2nd in their Beginner Novice division also on their dressage score! They are an amazing team! Ally and Charlie also finished on their dressage score in fifth place, they are really solidifying their partnership! Sophie borrowed Marissa pony, Hunter, to play in the Starter division this weekend and finish in 2nd! Go SHF!

Catching up on posting. This was from Stable View Eventing Academy in July. So much fun schooling on Saturday and competing on Sunday! Unfortunately I cant remember everyone's places but a few highlights include Kristen and Hudson completing their first horse trial on their dressage score, Susan's first horse trial in, um, a lot of years, with her new horse Drey, Ally and Charlie, Elli and Sprinkles, and Lara and Mr Russel continue to solidify their partnerships. Geoff and Red put in a super solid First Level test 2 and Susan and Beau continue to improve and solidify their Third level skills! Go SHF!

We had so much fun at the FENCE schooling hunter jumper show Tuesday night! What great practice to jump around at a different place and put all your skills to the test executing some amazing bending lines, balanced forward roll back turns, perfect 5 stride hunter lines in a fun environment (thanks Jan for the commentary!) with no pressure! Go SHF!

Great weekend at Chatt Hills following a week of camp! We experienced all the highs, lows and in betweens but overall everyone's rides have improved and at the end of the day that's what matters! Sol and Ender improved their overall rhythm and tempo and relaxation every phase of the event to finish 9th in their training division. Cortlinn and Greyson contact and relaxation is improving in all 3 phases but had an unfortunate series of things (long spot and getting left at jump 4, some propping to jump 5 trying to turn, over shooting the line to 6) led to uncharacteristic stops for the big E in their Novice division. That's way too much 'character building' for them! In the Beginner Novice divisions Marissa and Bear continue to build their partnership and finished on their dressage score to win! Sophie and Chopsy also put in really solid 3 phases showing a lot of improvement in dressage but pulled an uncharacteristic rail to finish in 13th in a tough division. Ally and Charlie also continue to develop their partnership of a few months to finished on their dressage score in 10th in their division. Go SHF!

More pictures from SHF Pony Camp! Ms Maggie talked about massage and kinesio taping, Mr Bill about proper shoeing, Ms Pat about helmet fit and Ms Marla is killing it with power tools and making stall signs. We've worked on the perfect 20 m circle, our balance over our feet for more effective positions, and finding the show jumping canter. Go SHF

What a great weekend at Full Gallop Farm. Sophie and Chopsy put in a solid dressage test and an exceptional stadium and xc to finish 7th in their very competitive Beginner Novice division. Ally and her new boy Charlie made the move up to Beginner Novice this weekend finishing on their dressage score in 5th place in their Beginner Novice division. Heather and Force Ten also had a successful move up to finish in 2nd in her Beginner Novice division. Lara and Mr Russel also made a move up to Starter this weekend putting in a spectacular dressage test and jumping rounds but pulled a silly rail to drop to 3rd. Of course we all wore our masks and social distanced. Thank you to all the volunteers for helping and Lara for hosting this horse trial. It was so much fun to be out and about again! Go SHF!

What a great weekend at River Glen Horse Trials in TN. Eventing is hard and for all the ribbons and fun matching colors and playing with your horse is a lot of hard work and sometimes tears. SHF experienced a lot of highs this weekend as well as some lows and watching my students handle the lows with grace and dignity makes me proud to be their trainer. Cortlinn and Greyson put in solid goes in all three phases at Novice but Greyson decided the ditch wasn't on his agenda this weekend resulting in the walk of shame. Marla and Missy put in a 28.5 to lead her Beginner Novice division and never looked back finishing in first. Marissa and Bear, her new horse, made their debut at Beginner Novice with a 24 to lead her division with lovely double clear stadium and xc to finish in first. Sophie and Chopsy had some confusion before their dressage test but Sophie put her game face on and got things done, coupled with solid double clear jumping put them in 6th place in their Beginner Novice division. Ally and Charlie are solidifying their partnership as well (she's had him since April) with solid goes in all 3 phases to finish in 4th. Elli and Sprinkles put in a solid dressage test with a clear stadium and a bit of a bobble on xc put them in 7th place in their Starter division. Go SHF!

Barn time at River Glen Horse Trials today! Fabulous dressage rides and stadium rounds for everyone! Starter completed all 3 phases today. Ally and Charlie continue to form their partnership with 3 solid goes to finish in 4th. Elli and Sprinkles are really working as a team now that Sprinkles clothes fit and her tummy is better. They were tied with Ally after dressage but an unfortunate loss of focus caused a bobble on xc which kept them just out of the ribbons! XC for everyone else tomorrow!

These photos say it all! What a fun weekend at Stable View Eventing Academy last weekend, with social distancing of course! Everyone schooled on Saturday and showed on Sunday. We had the dressage contingent of Carey and Parker and Geoff and Red confirming their 1st level skills with Carey getting a personal bat of 71. Susan and Drey made their dressage debut at 1st 2 also but he had other plans during the free walk so Susan retired. Susan and Beau also improved their third level test from November. Kay and Parker made their Training level debut, unfortunately some confusion in the beginning made Kay lose focus but Parkers workmanlike personality helped Kay get back on track. Our horse trial riders were also rock stars with Sophie and Chopsy moving up to Novice, Marla and Missy tuning up their Beginner Novice skills, Ally and Charlie debuting as a team at Starter, Elli and Sprinkles solidifying their skills at Starter, Anna and Budvar also debuting at Starter, Adie and Micah at their first event and Lara and Mr Russell tuning up their skills at Sprouts. We missed Cortlinn and Greyson having to scratch with an ill timed abscess, we were happy Marissa with both Hunter and Bear joined us for xc schooling but missed them for the competition. A shout out to Susan for putting on her xc vest and jumping Drey around after 20 years of dressaging. You all inspire and amaze me! Thanks to all the volunteers that made this possible! whew what a weekend! Go SHF!

Saturday was such a beautiful day for some xc schooling fun at Windridge! Time to knock off the rust and get ready for Stable View Eventing Academy in a few weeks! It was so cool to see all the work on position/body control, balance and rhythm that we've been doing at home put to practice in a different place. Go SHF!

Late getting this posted but a few weeks ago we did a ride-a-test dressage and CT! What a perfect solution for the quarantine blues! The ride-a-test format spaced out the rides so the farm wasn't too crowded. Everyone did their part social distancing and a beautiful day fun day with our ponies made for smiles all around! There were no winners but Lara and Mr Russell were the best matching (complete with matching eye shadow!), Sophie and Beau had the most improved dressage test (almost 10 points!), Victoria and Tilly won the green bean dressage award and what a perfect format for a young horse! Cece and Rincon and Janet and Chance beasted their first dressage test, Ally and Bee had the best skid jump, Lori and Shorty improved their bending, Marissa and Bear had the best "hunter like" jumping round, Jenn and Albie were double clear at BN, Elli and Sprinkles were runner up matching, Adie and Micah and Anna and Budvar learned how using their arms could improve their jumping while Sophie and Chopsy got all their body parts working together for their best dressage test ever! Go SHF!

We had so much fun xc schooling at FENCE on Sunday. Thank you to the Foothills Riding Club for hosting this open schooling day! In the first group Marissa started to solidify her partnership with her new horse, Bear, while Sophie tried the same thing but her new horse Dreamer decided just hanging out was in his agenda today and Cortlinn and CJ just had some fun! The second group polished their skills with Anna, Vicky, Lara and Adie. Thank you to Maril for trusting me with 'your girls'. We finished up with the third group, Marissa and Hunter, Elli and Sprinkles, Ally and Bee, Sophie and Chopsy and Cortlinn and Greyson also polishing their xc skills and pushing up to the next level. So much fun! Go SHF!

So much weekend fun before the world as we know it shuts down! A huge THANKS to the Foothills Riding Club for hosting this well run schooling show series! Lots of ribbons but that's just the icing on the cake compared to the confidence, improved skills and progress as riders, horsewomen and people! Cortlinn and Greyson and Marissa and Hunter put some polish on their Novice skills while Sophie and Chopsy made a successful move up to Novice all with lovely double clear stadium rounds! At Beginner Novice, Cortlinn brought CJ out to play, Sophie and her new boy Dreamer had their showing debut and Ally and Bee had a successful move up. Elli and Sprinkles put some demons to rest and Lori and Shorty polished their Starter skills. Lara and Mr Russell and Adie and her new boy Micah had their Grasshopper debut. Carey and Parker and Geoff and Red lay down solid First Level dressage tests! Kay was the most awesome dressage test reader and groom girl extraordinaire! Go SHF!

Enjoyed following your riders this weekend. Beautiful venue. Heard you were busy -- as usual.
Amy and Jeff, Thank you. Two small words that when combined convey SO much and yet at the same time don't seem to be enough. Thank you: for opening your home to a bunch of crazy horse people last night. Thank you: for lively conversation and delicious food. Thank you: for a warm, friendly, and family atmosphere. Thank you, too, to whomever thought of those indoor snowballs. :-) All the best to for a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season.
Thank you Smiling Horse Farm family for the thoughtful card following my mother, Marie's death. I can't tell you how much it meant to me and my family.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
