A HUGE Thank You to the Foothills Riding Club organizer and volunteers for putting on this fabulous schooling show series! Its such a great opportunity to tune up our skills, gain confidence and practice showing in a comfortable environment. Smiling Horse Farm had a fantastic turn out and results with 3 horse and rider teams winning their combined tests: Marissa and Bear at Training, Sophie and Donna at Novice and Susan and Dreyton at Beginner Novice! All SHF riders showed improvement in their dressage tests and lovely stadium rounds πŸ’ͺπŸ‘ŠπŸ¦„. Ally and Charlie continue to put the pieces together in their dressage and had a lovely stadium in their Novice CT. Sophie brought Chopsy back out to play but decided to scratch the jumping for novice.
Lara and Mr Russell also continue to put the pieces together in dressage and moved up to 3rd in their Beginner Novice CT. Adie and Micah were beasts schooling the Starter show jumping. Amelia and Ben showed much improvement from the warm up to the arena and finished on their dressage score πŸ’ͺ. This was their first show together as a team! Marissa and Bear rode a beautiful Training test B for first place πŸ’ͺπŸ†. Victoria and Teo put in a fairly fluid Training test 1 for a third place and kudos to Victoria for bringing Teo along as this was his first show and no drama. Cheryl and Saber also had a nicely forward Intro B and Intro C tests complete with a small spook in both tests at the appaloosa eating monsters at A for 2nd and 4th place. This was also their first show taking it all in stride together as a team. A HUGE thank you to our team at home for keeping the barn running, the grass mowed, the horses fed and all the endless tasks involved in running a farm! Go SHF! πŸ’ͺπŸ†πŸ‘ŠπŸ¦„β€πŸŽ‰

Thankful for the Stable View Eventing Academy for a fun weekend with the ponies! Eventing is hard and it all has to come together over 3 rides together with a little luck! Marissa and Bear showed improved balance and geometry in the dressage which carried over to show jumping and a beastly xc to finish in first place in her Training division. Ally and Charlie continue to improve in all 3 phases but 2 silly rails in stadium dropped them to finish in 6th in their Novice division. Sophie and Donna also showed improved balance and geometry and a beastly stadium to finish in 2nd in their Novice CT division. Susan and Dreyton went for it in dressage, showed improved rideablity in stadium then Dreyton took over on xc but finished first in their Beginner Novice division. Allison and Bella showed improvement across the board in all 3 phases but a silly rail in stadium dropped her to 7th. Lara and Mr Russell also had a solid go as well as a silly rail to finish in 8th place in Beginner Novice. Cortlinn and Greyson continue to show improvement but the scoreboard doesn't always reflect that. Adie and Micah had a fantastic dressage test but Adies cold got the best of her when Micah peaked at jump 3 on stadium and Adie didn't have in in her to push him hard enough. I'm proud of her for her thoughtful reapproach to the jump and trotting to it the third time. The big E happens to everyone at some point in their riding career. Most importantly we came home with sound and happy ponies! A big shout out to Erica for bathing Mr Russell and Micah, to Meredith, Chloe and Julia for keeping things running smoothly at the farm! Go SHF!

What a weekend! Thanks to Amy Barrington for warming up my students when I was judging (they were in the other judges rings). Thanks to Pat for braiding and turning out Mr Russell and Micah. Thanks to Sophie and Marissa for helping with braiding on Sunday. Thank you to all the people at home who keep the farm running and the horses healthy! Thank you to all the volunteers, organizer, secretary and officials for hosting such lovely event. Thank you to Mother Nature for such a beautiful weekend! Pretty ribbons from the FENCE Horse Trial this weekend and all finished on their dressage score! Marissa and Bear were 2nd in their competitive Open Training division, Ally and Charlie were 8th in their Novice Rider division (and finally didn't dawdle on xc!). Lara and Mr Russell finished 5th in their official (and successful) move up to Beginner Novice with Allison and Bella right behind them in 6th. Sometimes the results don't say the whole story, I'm proud of Cortlinn and Greyson run at Beginner Novice although a silly rider error resulted in the walk of shame as they are finally getting back to their mojo back from a hard year battling ulcers and some other stuff. Adie and Micah were 3rd in their first starter at a recognized event with Lori and Shorty in 5th. Go SHF!

We had such a wonderful Easter weekend at The Fork! Olivia donned her tail coat for dressage and confidently guided Dean through his first 2 ** to finish in 10th place in a very competitive division. Their performance in all 3 phases continually shows improved confidence, balance and ease over their last outing, what more can you ask for? πŸ’ͺπŸ¦„ Marissa and Bear put in 3 solid phases to finish in 6th in their very competitive open Training division to finish on their dressage score. They put in a solid somewhat conservative dressage test for a 29 but it lacked the sparkle they normally have. The Foothills Riding Club puts on a great show! We are so thankful to this organization and the volunteers for these opportunities to strut our stuff! At the end of the day it's all about walking out of the ring being grateful for the opportunity and feeling more confidence than you started with, the ribbons are just icing on the cake! All SHF riders finished on their dressage score this weekend πŸ’ͺπŸ‘ŠMarissa and Bear are on a roll with another first in their Training CT and extra dressage test showing improved suppleness thru the day! Sophie brought Chopsey back out to play at Novice, it was wonderful to see this pair together again, for 5th in their Novice CT. Ally and Charlie were 6th in their Novice CT continuing to show improvement in their dressage (which neither one likes lol). Sophie and Donna were 7th in their move up to Novice this weekend with a shout out to Sophie for keeping the drama down and Donna together and in the ring in a difficult dressage test πŸ’ͺ. Susan and Drayton won their Beginner Novice CT with lovely goes. Lara and Mr Russell had a successful move up to BN to finish 4th. We had riders in all 3 starter divisions. Adie and Micah won their Starter division, Lori and Shorty were 4th in their starter division and Victoria and Tilly were 3rd in their Starter division. They all have worked so hard and it showed with improved balance, rhythm and suppleness throughout their dressage and especially stadium πŸ’ͺπŸŽ‰. A huge thank you to our team at home so we can play on the weekend! Go SHF!

Thank you to Pine Top Farm volunteers and officials and Janet and Glenn for hosting such a great event! We had a small but mighty group this weekend. Marissa and Bear beasted their way around training to finish on their dressage score (27.8) in first place in their Junior Training division. Sophie came to make sure Bear was appropriately turned out! This partnership is really starting to come together! Olivia and Dean have been working hard on their balance and throughness at this level and its paying off in all 3 phases. They finished in 6th in their very competitive Preliminary Rider division! Go SHF!

A huge thank you to Lellie and the officials and organizer at Paradise Farm horse trials for making the difficult call to change the competition schedule so we could have fabulous footing last weekend. Lara and Mr Russell won their starter division on their dressage score. Next event for this pair is at Beginner Novice! πŸ’ͺ Allison and Bella had 3 solid goes to finish in fifth place on their dressage score in a tough Beginner Novice division. Sophie and Donna were in fourth going into xc but Sophie struggled to find a good canter coming to her most feared xc jump ended with an unplanned dismount. Ally and Charlie had good goes in dressage and stadium and a beastly xc warm up but then went out of the start box like an old lady😜 and racked up some time πŸ€¦πŸ™ˆ to finish in 10th in their Novice division. So proud of these girls and honored to be part of their tribe! Go SHF! πŸ’ͺπŸ†πŸ¦„

We played in the sandbox last weekend at Stable View 'I Love Dressage' show and got a little wet but also won a few test! Everyone improved from test to test, kept their sense of humor in the pouring rain, rode tactfully and effectively when the water in the gutters spooked their horse and we all had a little fun. Susan and Beau got their quailfying scores at Third level. Sophie and Donna were First Level reserve high point champions. Geoff and Red had fabulous first level test 2 tests both days with solid scores for a 2nd on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday. Ally and Charlie put in solid Training level tests both days to finish with 2 1st and a 2nd. Charlie's inner event horse didn't think he should do dressage 2 times in one day! My new boy, the grom, came and partied while I coached. He was a rock star! Go SHF! πŸ’ͺπŸ˜β€πŸ‘

A bit late posting but we had a great go and learned a lot at Stable View opener a few weeks ago. Olivia and Dean overall showed improved balance and throughness in all 3 phases but a little spookiness in the show jumping cost a couple rails at Prelim to finish in 5th. Marissa and Bear had their debut at recognized Training, a conservative dressage test and double clear jumping had them finishing on their dressage score in 3rd place! Ally and Charlie continue to solidify their partnership at Novice and had a fantastic dressage test, a lovely double clear stadium and then jumped xc beautifully but went a bit slow. Sophie and Donna had their recognized BN debut with a solid dressage test and double clear jumping but Sophies nerves got the best of her out of the start box with a silly run out on xc. Cortlinn and Greyson are coming back from some health issues and looked ready to rock with probably one of their best dressage tests but Greyson said nope not just yet in stadium so they had the walk of shame (it happens to everyone at some point!). Go SHF!

We had a bit of holiday fun at the Stable View Eventing Academy last weekend! SV awarded their 2020 year end awards at this even and Susan and Hello hello (Dreyton) were the Beginner Novice Champions! Lara and Mr Russell were 5th in the Sprouts division! In the horse trial over the weekend, Marissa and Bear had 3 solid goes to win their Training division. Ally and Charlie also had 3 solid phases to finish 6th in their Novice division. The Beginner Novice division was quite competitive with Allison and Bella in first, Sophie and Donna in third and Cortlinn and Greyson in 5th, all with solid goes in all 3 phases! Lara and Mr Russell were 6th in their Tadpole division but Lara definitely needs a GPS as she almost missed a jump in stadium, again! Susan brought her dressage horse, Beau, this time and really showed some overall improvement in quality of gaits in her Third level test 3! I'm so thrilled and honored to teach and coach these teams! Go SHF!

What a fun weekend at Stable View! We all schooled xc and sj Saturday and competed on Sunday including several successful move ups! Marissa and Bear had a bit of miscommunication in dressage but still scored a 30 to finish in 5th on her dressage score in a successful move to Training. Ally and Charlie rocked their jumping phases to finish on their dressage score in 6th in a successful move up to Novice. Allison and Bella had a slight bobble in their dressage and were leading but a silly rail in stadium dropped them to 3rd in a successful move up to Beginner Novice. Susan and Dreyden rocked all 3 phases to finish on her dressage score in 1st in her Beginner Novice division. Sophie and Bella partnership is starting to solidify with solid goes in all 3 phases to finish I. 1st on her dressage score at Tadpole. Lara and Mr Russell had a silly rail in stadium (she watched Adie and Micah and copied them!) To drop to 2nd in her Tadpole division. Adie and Micah had a couple of silly rails to drop to 6th and a successful move up to Tadpole. Geoff and Red had lovely first level dressage test 1 and 2. Go SHF!

We had an extra busy and fun weekend last weekend at 'The Morris the Horse' trials at FENCE! Marissa and Bear put in 3 solid phases and won their Novice division. Marla and Missy had a great go despite a kidney infection but a cheap rail in stadium dropped them out of the ribbons. Allison and Bella finished their first horse trial on their dressage score and won their starter division with Lara and Mr Russell having 3 solid goes but finishing just out of the ribbons in 9th place. Susan, Sophie and Ally traveled to Stable View for the Eventing Academy series. Susan and Drey and Sophie and Donna beasted all 3 phases and won their Beginner Novice and Starter divisions, respectively. Ally and Charlie are continuing to improve their dressage and moved up to 4th in their Beginner Novice division. Go SHF!

What a weekend at Poplar Place Farm Area 3 Eventing Championships! Marissa and Bear won the Junior Novice championships! Marla and Missy were 4th in the Senior Beginner Novice Rider championships, Ally and Charlie put in a solid dressage test for 17th place but moved up to 13th after stadium then to 9th after xc in true eventer fashion with double clear jumping in her Junior Beginner Novice division. In the regular horse trials Olivia and Dean rocked their xc to finish in 2nd Preliminary Rider, Sol and Wiamea finished 2nd in their Beginner Novice division, Lara and Mr Russell also moved up to 3rd from dropping to 9th after a cheap rail in stadium in their Starter division, Sophie and Donna were leading after dressage and also got a 10 for the free walk then a silly spook on xc took some time so they finished in 5th. Heather and her handsome boy competed at Windridge and finished 2nd in their Beginner Novice division! Go SHF!

Busy day, Amy. Fast and furious. Look like Susan Falkner had best result in BN, but all of them should be proud. Hope you had a good time judging.
Enjoyed following your riders this weekend. Beautiful venue. Heard you were busy -- as usual.
Amy and Jeff, Thank you. Two small words that when combined convey SO much and yet at the same time don't seem to be enough. Thank you: for opening your home to a bunch of crazy horse people last night. Thank you: for lively conversation and delicious food. Thank you: for a warm, friendly, and family atmosphere. Thank you, too, to whomever thought of those indoor snowballs. :-) All the best to for a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season.
Thank you Smiling Horse Farm family for the thoughtful card following my mother, Marie's death. I can't tell you how much it meant to me and my family.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
Amelie is pregnant. Christine is thrilled 🐎
