Moonsville Rock Festival The concert that never happened! Three proposed days of peace and music in Madison County led to anger and a lawsuit in 1970 when a promoter tried to hold a three-day rock concert near Moonsville.

Scott McKibben, a Yorktown native, had planned a Woodstock-like festival for this small burg in northeastern Madison County. It was to be his response to having missed Woodstock in 1969. His rock event would have been Aug. 14-16, one year after the famed Aug. 15-18 gathering of 400,000 hippie-minded music fans at Woodstock in upstate New York. This event didn't happen the summer between my 5th & 6th grade years at College Corner. We lived less than two miles from the site. I remember the deputies had the roads blocked at all intersections leading to it. Since we were local, they let us pass, besides the old man was a crew cut guy so it was obvious we were not going to any rock concert! As we drove by, a couple of "hippies" came out of the house flashing the peace sign. The old man, fearing some sort of contact high (he watched "Re**er Madness" so knew the facts), sped away! To this day, I stop to get a drink of water right out of the ground whenever I pass by. Thanks to whoever it is that made the nice pull off & provides the upkeep!
Soooo, when is this shindig?
The stage was built.. drove by and saw that. Too bad it didn't happen. With a name like Moonsville you know it would have been like far-out-ville man.
