Today we are thanking Smudge (one of our therapy goats) for saving a life.
Two days ago we received a call that a blood donor was urgently needed at the University of Georgia’s Large Animal Hospital. Smudge stepped up and, after a very hurried trip, he gave a large amount of his own blood to save a life.
The Veterinarians said Smudge was the best donor they had ever encountered in both demeanor and strength through this procedure. Good boy, Smudge, GOOD BOY!
Smudge is doing very well but will spend a few days recuperating in the barn (with plenty of hugs and special treats) before he rejoins his friends in pasture.
Thank you, “Mudgey” - you ARE a life saver! 💕
Big news from a greater Anderson area business and one of AAFFA's own!
As some of you may already know, there have been a few changes at The Wine Emporium. After many years of service and leadership to the community, Paul and Linda Trehearne have decided to sell The Wine Emporium and spend more time enjoying other hobbies and interests.
The torch for managing the day to day aspects of this organization has been passed to a new generation. In many ways, Derek Lampe and I have been raised and mentored by the Trehearnes, and we seemed the right fit to continue this “family” business. Derek has been with them for years, since he was in high school. I (Brandon) have been mentored by Paul and Linda over the last six years as a distributor sales consultant, and I have fallen in love with this community and this charming store that holds a unique position in its commercial and social ecosystem. It seemed like the perfect fit, and Derek and I are proud to carry on the tradition established by Paul and Linda. We are more than happy to become a part of Salem's Wine Community!

American Farmland Trust
The COVID-19 crisis has exposed weaknesses in our nation’s food system. We are seeing empty shelves at grocery stores and farmers changing their business plans in order to maintain sales, forcing us to see the gaps in our food systems. People are starting to understand how and where they get their food from, and now we must shape a resilient and just food system our nation needs.
