Anyone visiting New Orleans, plan to take a tour of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, especially the “Alabama” display. It features a variety of foods made in Alabama and with special meaning to Alabama.

Clay Leak spent months gathering together items to add to the display, which we are excited to say now includes a Poke Salat Festival magnet!

Thanks Clay for doing this!!

Happy Monday! ☀️ It was a beautiful weekend and we enjoyed it at the Poke Salat Festival downtown on Saturday! We had lots of great vendors and live music! I snagged a few goodies for the kids and upcoming housewarming gifts. I made Alivia walk from the park to downtown with me to the festival for extra steps! (She was thrilled.) This week we hope you pack an appetite because it's Poke Salat time at the Poke Salat Festival (And before you correct the spelling, they do use the original from the German settlers of the region.) No doubt you've seen some growing in your back yard but in Arab they have an entire festival to celebrate the little green plant and you'll find out why A-rab is called A-rab. Also we're traveling West so Westward The Wagons to West Alabama anyway for a day at Wagon Works. We swing open The Vault for a visit with some of our favorite Thin Folks and then...a sound like no other. We'll take you to where it all began because The Muscle Shoals Sound and Alabama's Music Hall of Fame is still Absolutely Alabama so join us bright and early at 5:30 Saturday morning WSFA-TV-Montgomery or Sunday morning at 4:30 WBRC FOX6 News-Birmingham. Visit North Alabama!

Spring is traditionally a time when communities host fun festivals that bring people together around a common theme - whether that's playing dominos, sculpting marble or blessing boats. Of course, for the sake of everyone's health, festival planners have canceled or are looking to reschedule events for this year. But you can still experience these seasonal festivities from the comfort of your own home! Enjoy watching some of Alabama's most notable festivals in this playlist. *Please note, not all of these festivals are held in the spring, and those are much more likely to go on as scheduled. www.Facebook.com/SimplySouthernTV/playlist/539204680064188 Features include: W.C. Handy Music Festival Tinglewood Festival at Orr Park Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic in Decatur Morgan County Tourism Festival of Tulips at American Village Poke Salat Festival Annual Blessing of the Fleet Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention World Championship Domino Tournament Hank Williams Festival The Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo Sylacauga Marble Festival Cahaba Lily Festival
Raw poke w**d may be poisonous, but for those who know how to cook it right, it provides the perfect Southern side of poke salad. The folks in Arab celebrate this Southern oddity every year with the Poke Salat Festival.
