After featuring 30 Florida instructors, we are moving into Special Editions of the Online Florida Clogging Workshops as we start to wrap the series up at the end of this month.

Today, is a tribute to "Florida's Clogging Angels" -- celebrating Sandy Redfern Smallwood, Marge Callahan and Debbie Conn with three fantastic routines they gave us. For many of us, this will be a review -- and for others, it will be an opportunity to learn these great routines that will no doubt be around for a long time. Some of the instructors were really nervous this week because the legacies are so incredible -- so special thanks and shout out to Merrilie, Erin, and Jamie for making it possible.

"Butterfly" written by Sandy with Diana Allen -- Workshopped by Merrilie Hindsley on behalf of the Indian River Cloggers.

"Yippy Ti Yi Yo" written by Debbie and Jamie Conn -- Workshopped by Jamie Conn, Debbie's son, Clogging Connection

"High and Mighty" written by Marge Callahan -- Workshopped by Erin 'Hughes' Hunter on behalf of the Sugarfoot Family Cloggers (a team Marge founded).

These are great routines choreographed by great friends, volunteers, and contributors to clogging in Florida. They are missed -- but what legacies?! To be thought of so often! They sure were special people evidenced by the fact that they are still so central to our activities, minds, and hearts. Smile, dance, and have fun tonight as a tribute to these ladies.

Clogging from scratch - Lesson Two is posted!

I also posted a follow up to Lesson One so you can practice your lesson one steps with music and work on picking up the tempo. There are shortcut links in the description on YouTube so you can jump forward to a section or a practice song.

In lesson two, learn more steps. Talk about changing weight and dynamics. And we add the brush to start mixing it up.

Current clogging plans: I plan to refund anyone who attended the first class (right before social distancing hit) for the entire session. I know everyone is facing hardships and stress at this time, and I want to do my part to help. (... and our community center is closed until at least June at this point!) If you attended this class, please check your email.

I am still adjusting to our new norm at home but am also still hoping to be able to offer you some sort of online option in the future. I will keep you posted if I get it figured out, and in the meantime, I’ll pass along some other online resources as they come up. There are so many great classes and events happening online!

Much love to you all!

Announcing the WORLDWIDE CLOGGING FUN DANCE online project!
My name is Jeff Driggs and I have been teaching clogging in the United States and around the globe for more than 40 years and cherish the friendships I have made along the way. I think we are at a pivotal time in clogging’s history and for workshop and convention both big and small.
Inspired by Eric and Michelle Bice and family and the Apple Creek Cloggers of California, who “live streamed” a kitchen table fun dance this weekend, I got in touch with a couple of good friends and thought leaders and invited a group of clogging organization and association leaders and fun dance cuers in an organized project for the next few weeks to share with fellow cloggers some of the many fun dances that are done at workshops and conventions around the globe.
Working with Trevor DeWitt of clogdancing.com and Hanna Healy who heads the Western New York Clogging Association and partners in the annual World of Clogging Event, we are proposing using the power of social media and the web presence of the many global clogging groups and clogging enthusiasts to promote a Worldwide Clogging Fun dance each weekend featuring three 30 minute sessions with clogging cuers and clogging association leaders from around the world.
This is not to take the place of workshops or classes, as many people are offering instruction online and that is not the intent of this project. It is our goal to promote this chance to bring cloggers together through fun dancing and to support each other and the global clogging community during this time of social distance until we can share a dancefloor together again.
We are excited to announce the cuers for our first Worldwide Clogging Fun Dance this Saturday beginning at 8:00 pm USA EDT. The USA will kick off the project with representatives from across the nation. Coming weeks will feature cuers from across the globe!
Trevor DeWitt is from Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Trevor has been a clogger since the age of 7 and has been a workshop instructor for the past 20 years. He created and operates Clogdancing.com. He runs a recreational clogging group in the Kentuckiana area. You can always find him on the floor during fun dances. He enjoys sharing his love of clogging with others and is looking forward to virtually dancing with cloggers from around the world!
Eric and Michelle Bice and family are from Lakewood, California USA in the Los Angeles area. Eric is the instructor for the Apple Creek Cloggers, and has been teaching for 34 years. He has led a successful competition team, and has taught all over the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. He even met his wife through clogging, and now their kids are following suit. They are excited to share the digital dancefloor with everyone soon! The Bices helped to inspire this project with their “kitchen table fun dance” they broadcast during the first days of social distancing.
Sheryl Baker is from East Central Minnesota, USA. She has been clogging for 34 years and has been teaching recreational clogging classes to ages 2 years of age to 94 years of age since 1990 (Shout out Bonnie J. for her inspiration) She has been using social media to post fun material and step drills to keep dancers motivated. Sheryl is also a competitive team coach, directing the Clogging Premier divisions and Clogging Xtreme. “I am excited and ready to bring some sunshine into your home by offering some clogging fun dancing! Let’s do it cloggers... let’s dance it out!” Sheryl said!
An embedded player will be available on www.clogdancing.com and www.doubletoe.com for our world premier.
We are so excited to dance along with you all this weekend!

The next two weeks of clogging classes will be postponed due to COVID-19. The goal is to keep everyone healthy and do our part in not spreading germs.

Things are changing by the minute and I'm currently trying to get a grasp of what my family's new norm is. However, please know I AM also investigating online options for our students... you aren’t getting out of clogging that easy! Ha! I'll keep you posted.

Asheville Parks & Recreation

As of this current moment, our clogging classes are allowed to take place next week (we are under the 100 person limit).... but, as we all know, this is evolving and changing by the second. I want to keep the risk of any of us catching or spreading COVID-19 at a minimum. I will do my best to keep you all up-to-date and am anticipating/exploring options for doing weekly online “live” classes for registered students. ❤️

PARKS OPERATIONS UPDATE (3/13 @ 3:30 p.m.):
As part of the combined efforts of the State, County & City to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, there are a few operational changes in the Parks & Recreation Department.
Public gatherings are limited to less than 100 people in any City-owned property including all Parks facilities. Signage is currently being posted.
The WNC Nature Center will be closed until further notice.
The Adult Indoor Volleyball League season is suspended and currently scheduled to resume on April 14.
The Youth Flag Football season opener is postponed until April 13.
Youth AAU Travel Basketball Evaluations WILL be held as scheduled Saturday, March 14 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Shiloh Community Center.
We will continue to follow developments and will post updates as they're available. Stay safe and well.
