The Mountain Sports Festival to End After 18 years

After 18 great years of celebrating and sharing with the community the amazing and abundant outdoor offerings and activities that are found in Western North Carolina, we’ve decided to shutter the Mountain Sports Festival.

We certainly appreciate the support of the community, our vendors, event producers, event participants, musical acts, and sponsors over the years, such as Prestige Subaru, Blue Ridge Outdoors, Diamond Brand Outdoors, Sierra Nevada Brewing, Pisgah Brewing, Hi-Wire Brewing, and New Belgium Brewing.

Please keep an eye out for many of the independently run sporting events that have been part of the MSF, such as the Mountain Disc Golf Experience, Downriver Dash SUP race, and the Asheville Ultimate Youth Tournament, as they will still happen without us. Please support them!

We encourage all of Asheville to use the 2019 Memorial Weekend to get outside with friends and family and experience the mountains of Western North Carolina. Get on that mountain bike, road bike, cyclocross bike, stand up paddleboard, kayak, canoe, or Bellyak. Lace up those running shoes, trail shoes, climbing shoes, or hiking shoes. Load up the car with your camping gear and furry friends, strap the kids into their car seats, and make some memories in the mountains. That is what we will be doing!

Free Bike Parking at the Mountain Sports Festival! The first 500 adult bikes get a free MSF Koozie!!!

The Mountain Sports Festival is proud to offer free bike parking in the famed Asheville on Bikes Bike Corral! See hours below.

How does this corral thing work? It’s like valet parking–you check in your bike, and get a claim ticket. We keep your bike in the corral, where our volunteers will keep an eye on it, while you go have fun. When you come back, hand in your ticket and get your bike back. Easy, peasy.

Q: How much does it cost? It’s absolutely free. Always has been; always will be. AoB does accept donations. Right, Mike Sule?!

Q: Can I park my bike trailer/tandem/unicycle/recumbent? Of course. If it’s on wheels and powered by human muscles, we’ll park it.

Q: You mean I don’t need to lock my bike? Is it safe? You bet. Our volunteers will never leave the corral unattended, and no one else is allowed access to the bikes.

Q: What are the hours? We’ve got free bike parking all weekend!

Friday (4pm – 10pm)
Saturday (10am – 10pm)
Sunday (12pm – 6pm)

Q: What is Asheville on Bikes? Here is their Mission Statement : “Asheville on Bikes cultivates the culture of urban and commuter cycling through advocacy & celebration. We believe that cycling has a direct impact on the health of our community.” To learn more, please visit: Asheville on Bikes website.

We just wanted to take a moment and share some love with our firends at One World Brewing. They've been a HUGE supporter of the festival for years and are back again supporting the VIP Tent. This is not cool.

Swing by and say hello to them in a couple weeks when they open the new WAVL location!

While this is one of several unfortunate instances that we have been faced with, we will not be deterred from doing what’s best for our employees and our community. We are a homegrown, local, independently owned brewery that does so much more than just brew beer. We use beer as a platform to support so many other aspects of life that we are passionate about. For someone to repeatedly deface our new location and other local businesses as well, it upsets us, angers us, but also reminds us that we can’t let our emotions get the best of us. We’ve offered beyond a living wage to our staff so they can continue to live and work in our growing community in Asheville. We give to a monthly cause/charity of our staffs choosing. We’ve hired countless artists & musicians in our 4 short years and we will be able to do so much more of that with a second location. All of the paint, pavement, sign work, sweat, and hard work of local, honest working folks was defaced last night. So if you’re against supporting the arts, music, fun, fulfilling work done by people that live and breathe Asheville, and are against having a place that builds community, family, & universal acceptance, then we are absolutely, positively guilty as charged for supporting all of these beautiful things! #beertostay #westisbest @ West Asheville, North Carolina

hi there! who can I contact about becoming a vendor?
Whoops! Too late for nominations! 😭 "After a two-week nomination period that ends on Monday, October 2, a second round of voting for the top five nominees in each category will begin on Monday, October 9." Let's hope for making the top 5 nominees and getting lots of votes to starting on the 9th! Because, after, you are the best! :)
Have any photographs from the 5k race on Saturday been shared yet?
What's the weather contingency for the 5K tonight?
How's the park looking as we roll into the week? Fingers crossed that the water recedes enough as we roll in closer. Is there a 'Plan B' to reschedule if things aren't in good enough shape by Saturday?
Where can I find more information on the 20km run? Is it a trail run, road race, any water stations,...? Thanks!
