How about we get out of the house and hang out together while we send some emails?!

Well, Shamika Johnson with @aetreventstx has put together just that for all of the Austin area planners.

We want this day to be a place for all planners, whether in AWPA or not, to work together and lean on each other for any help we may need!

The event is free and lite bites and coffee will be provided by @sohocateringandconsulting. We are also going to have some cute furniture and hang-out spots provided by @festoontexas Rentals and @zuzuspetalsaustin.

Thank you to all of the vendors making this happen and thank you @theuniononeighth for hosting us!

It will be fun, chill, and productive!

We asked our planners for their favorite stories about their favorite weddings and boy did we get some great ones!

We loved learning about Amberley's wedding at Vuka North Loop!

"Blair and John are one of our more eccentric couples we’ve worked with. In our first phone call Blair told me she did not want to have a wedding, but wanted to celebrate their love and possibly do a very intimate surprise ceremony. “Surprise wedding? Oh I want in on this!” was my response. Food, dancing, and spending time with their guests were the most important things to Blair and John. We designed the entire event to be focused on their priorities, so we threw the “traditional timeline” out the window.

Blair and John were intentional about spending one on one quality time together on their special day. We scheduled an hour in their timeline for them to have lunch and prepare for the exciting afternoon ahead of them. Family members thought they were coming to the event early for intimate ceremony photos. After getting in some good individual family photos, the photographer brought both families in for a photo, then the officiant walked forward and informed everyone that they were indeed at Blair and John’s surprise ceremony.

After the ceremony, guests were welcomed by Blair and John waiting by the front entrance. The photographer stood by for red carpet styled photos. They were able to say hello and have an intimate moment with every person.
Blair and John wanted there to be food accessible to guests at all times of the event. In addition to having 3 food stations, every hour our catering team would bring around another round of passed appetizers. The Baked Bear supplied memorable ice cream sandwiches towards the end of the night."

Meet Alyson Desha of Mockingbird Lane Events!

My husband and I are native Austinites, who have made our home in beautiful Georgetown, TX since 2004! We have four kids: Caroline (16), Michaela (14), Josephine (6), and Declan (4) and two dogs (Rosie & Mr. Bates). In 2016, I started to work as an assistant to my friend Rachel who owned her own wedding planning company. I loved assisting at weddings because it got me out of the house and gave me something fun to do SANS KIDS. I literally considered every wedding a #mommyvacay! Before long, I knew that I wanted to lead coordinate, and so by the end of the year I was lead planner on a number of weddings. At the end of 2017, when Rachel disbanded her company to pursue other business adventures, I decided that I didn't really want to work for anyone but me, and Mockingbird Lane was born. Some of my favorite parts of wedding planning are timeline creation, the venue walk-through meeting, those last moments right before the bride walks down the aisle, orchestrating sparkler send-offs for guests who have been drinking for 4 hours, and the day I get the photos from the photographer. When I'm not wedding planning, I'm momming, homeschooling, cooking, blogging, dating my husband, playing with essential oils, reading Harry Potter, enjoying reruns of Doctor Who or Everybody Loves Raymond, or (my personal favorite) sleeping.

Hello everyone! My employer is interested in BUYING a 20’X20’X8’ PS White Tent to stay onsite. We currently are paying a monthly rental fee and the company has declined selling the existing, already staked down, tent and accessories but instead wants to sell us a new one for $15K which they would reinstall and take the used items back to their warehouse. Does anyone know where I could purchase one locally? A rental company going out of business possibly? Any ideas are welcome!
Hey guys! I'm looking for a venue that can hold around 300 people. Dancing, lawn games, bar, and close to downtown are all important. Any ideas?
I’m looking for a rehearsal and day of wedding planner for a non-traditional situation! I’m having my wedding at a restaurant that’s closing at 4. Guests will be arriving at 6:30. That gives us just over two hours to set up. I have a very low key idea in mind, so my decor will just be the basics like a few flowers, centerpieces, putting out guest gifts, fairy lights everywhere, and a few other small things inside and outside. Tables and chairs, food, silverware, dishes, other vendors, etc. will already be there. My wedding party has ten people plus probably a few other family members that will be there to put this all together. So my questions are 1. Is this plus normal rehearsal/wedding/reception coordination too much to ask? (Apparently it is for one company I talked with) and 2. Would any of you be willing to have a meeting with me to discuss working together? Some other details: -there should be around 80-100 guests -the wedding is in October -the wedding is at a downtown Austin restaurant -it will be super low key -really just need someone to coordinate, not decorate if you don’t want to or think I’m crazy for attempting this -money isn’t really an issue, I’ll pay your regular/full day of fee for the rehearsal plus roughly six hours (4-10pm) the day of -if you do help with the decorating, I have no problem paying more if that’s what’s required, but I’ll already have the decorations ready to go Thanks 😊
