Led by Ed Miller along with other musicians to many iconic music, culture and historic parts of Scotland. The basic aim of the tours are to give folk music enthusiasts the chance to enjoy and learn about Scotland through experiencing its music and landscape. You’ll meet and hear singers and musicians on their home ground, visit the contexts from which the songs and music arose and enjoy evening concerts, dances and informal talks. This is not a search for the Scotland of Brigadoon, Braveheart and the Loch Ness Monster. Rather it is a unique opportunity to learn about the music, people, history, folklore and landscape in a personal and entertaining way.

Just reposting this from a few years back since we are back on Stromness again!

In 1990 I produced an audio tape called "The Spirit of Orkney" It was commissioned by Highland Park whisky and some 10,000 of them were inserted into the package as part of a special promotion. As well as explaining the process of whisky making, it had a collection of Stories, tunes and songs from Orkney. One of the highlights for me was to meet George Mackay Brown - A wonderful author and storyteller from Stromness. He refused to talk about his writing but was more than happy to chat about his life in Stromness, the town he had spent most of his life in. I thought I'd post this excerpt from the audio tape since Ed is taking a tour to Orkney for the first time in June 2017! Search out his novels and short stories even if you are not visiting the islands!

Just so you can get some practice in for Ed's tours coming up!

The Broom O' the Cowdenknowes filmed at Scott's View this morning. Although mainly gorse in the picture there is some Broom further down the hill!
