Advent Midday Music continues tomorrow at noon with the Voices of St David’s, our professional a ca****la ensemble.

During Advent, we wait. We wait for a star. We wait for airplanes to take off or land. We wait for family to arrive on our doorstep. We wait to open gifts, carefully selected and prepared. We wait in lines at stores and for anxious children to fall asleep. Starting with the traditional call to ‘Keep your lamps (trimmed and burning)’ to the soaring polyphony of Tallis’s ‘Audivi vocem’ and Hassler’s ‘Canite tuba’, eight voices explore what it means to wait. Two very different presentations of the mysterious ‘Conditor alme siderum’ (Creator of the stars of night) delve into the deep mystery of Advent. Kathryn Rose’s ‘Advent’ implores the waiting to end, all the while encouraging patience, and Charles Giffen’s spectacular arrangement of ‘Veni, veni, Emmanuel’ offers hope for days to come. Come wait with us!

Choral Compline Service
Sunday, June 19, 8 p.m.
In honor of those killed in Orlando.

We invite you to attend our regularly scheduled Choral Compline service this Sunday in the Historic Church, as we continue to mourn those people killed in Orlando last weekend.

Compline is a short, meditative service chanted by a choir of anywhere between eight and eighteen singers. The music consists of Gregorian and Sarum chant melodies, Elizabethan and Tudor motets, and a variety of contemporary hymns. The congregation sits quietly in the candlelit and incensed Historic Church, participating through silent prayer and meditation. Attendees can watch the singers, closer their eyes, or even lie down. This service particularly appeals to those of any faith who want a spiritual experience rather than a traditional Eucharist service.
