District cross country: Avon Lake's Maggie Jantz rises above anxiety as the Shoregals' leader

Avon Lake High School senior, Maggie Jantz, shares her story of mental strength and determination as she faced challenges throughout her athletic career. Jantz's struggles with anxiety date back to her days in middle school. As a seventh grader in cross country, she won nearly every race she ran. When Jantz didn't win, she finished second. She competed in youth triathlons in the summer and consistently won or placed in the top three in her age group....

Lorain County Board of Elections

Early voting begins today.
Issue 14 on the Nov. 3 General Election ballot is a renewal of an existing 1.5 mill Permanent Improvement (PI) levy for our school district. The renewal levy is for a five-year period of time and would raise approximately $705,000 annually with proceeds going to fund district improvements with an expected life of 5 years or more. These funds allow the district to create and implement a plan for the care of our facilities that will keep them safe and appropriate for educational use for years to come. PI funds have been used for projects such as bus replacement, general building maintenance/upgrades, repair and replacement of roofs, parking lots, driveways and sidewalks, locker replacement, security camera installation and other projects with an expected life of 5 years or more. The Lorain County Auditor’s Office certified a homeowner with property valued at $100,000 will pay $17.27 annually for the levy. The passage of this levy will NOT increase taxes as this is a renewal of an existing PI levy. Thank you for your continued support of our schools.

FYI - our schools have a mask exemption form. You do not need a doctor to sign off on this. Know your rights. Do your research and WAKE UP!!!! I challenge each and every one of you to research the long term effects these masks will have on our children. I challenge you to provide scientific evidence that proves our children need to be wearing a mask. STAND UP! SPEAK OUT!!!
It's National School Lunch Week. Thank you to all our foodservice workers and our entire Nutrition Services Department. #NSLW2020 #SchoolLunch Our school menus are always available on our district website and feature nutritional information. #ALexcellence https://www.avonlakecityschools.org/nutritional-services/
Parents of Avon Lake - FYI - As of this week our students in grades k-4 have to wear a mask while outside for recess . Further more, we have parents taking photos of our children on the playground and calling our superintendent regarding masks not being worn. These are the same parents who chose to send their kids to school. Most classes now only get recess one day per week because they can ONLY have one class out there at a time . As for Troy - FYI- students have not been out for recess , instead they sit in the same classroom they have been in all day and eat lunch and are allowed to use their computer - this typically lasts for 1 hour. And I’ll leave you with this .... if we want change , it will have to come from us! We - the Parents are our kids future and voice ! Exercise this right and email, call , whatever you feel is right for your kid, do it! ❤️
**NOW HIRING** Avon Lake City Schools is now hiring for substitute custodian positions! Substitute teacher, monitor, secretary, and educational aide positions also available. https://www.applitrack.com/wixey/onlineapp/default.aspx?AppliTrackPostingSearch=location:%22Avon+Lake%2c+OH%22
On behalf of our marching band and their families, THEY DESERVE TO PLAY AT THE MAKEUP GAME!!! They only get 3 performances this season!!! These kids WANT to be there and share their talent and hard work!!!! How do we make sure this happens???
Does anyone know if they are going to do Kindergarten assessments? Or if they are skipping them since we are already scheduled for orientation.
Attention parents of a child whom should be participating in safety patrol this school year- This would include all elementary schools grades 4. As of now the students will not be participating, therefore I am posting this to see who would like to discuss this decision. Please comment if YES you would like to see the kids participate in safety patrol in which they look so forward to throughout their entire elementary career. Let the kids patrol! 😎
"Face masks will be Required for Ohio TEACHERS and Staff -- unless it is unsafe for them to do so. STUDENTS in third grade and up ARE encouraged, but NOT REQUIRED, to wear masks unless there's a medical or developmental reason not to do so."
Congrats to ALHS 2020 Graduates -- Highlighted in The Chronicle - 2020 Academic Excellence for Top Graduates for each of the local schools. Awesome Accomplishments & Congratulations ! Irwin, Micheal, Eva, Devin & Owen!
