Wreath Making 2020 Edition:

Hello friends and neighbors! It's been 55 years that Calais citizens have volunteered to make holiday wreaths for our community buildings and this year will be no different! We aim to continue the tradition of making and hanging wreaths on the public buildings of Calais; including the Town Hall, Town Clerk's Office, Kent Museum, MC Community Store, East Calais General Store, East Calais Post Office, and the Old West Church (a total of 13 wreaths).

This year, we invite you to sign up for a wreath (or more) to be made at home, then hang it on the building you signed up for. We will provide you with a complete wreath making 'kit', with instructions!

Pick up your kit:
Sunday, December 6, 1-2:30 PM, at the Maple Corner Community Center. We will be outdoors, with masks.

The kit will include:
Freshly cut, evergreen boughs, wire circle, twine, a bow, and instructions.

What you will need:
a pair of scissors and pruning snips.

To adopt a town building to 'wreath', please email Katie at [email protected] or 229-9093. She'll let you know which buildings need wreaths. Let us know soon, if you would like a wreath making kit so we can get all the materials together in time.

We will miss being able to gather together in person for this Calais tradition, but will not be stopped in supporting and beautifying our community, even during a worldwide pandemic!

Sincerely,
Katie Lane-Karnas, Hasso Ewing and Donna Jerry

Calais residents work to save community's country store

Maple Corner is once again back in the news!

Some of Vermont's iconic country stores have closed in recent years, leaving residents of those communities stuck traveling farther for the essentials. So when a country store in Calais hit the market, the community came up with a plan to save it. Our Ike Bendavid reports.

Hi, everyone in Maple Corner.
Hey Cardio ladies, I have been agonizing about this since this morning because I REALLY hate to postpone, but I know some of you (and other dancers) have a long drive to get to class. With the freezing rain last night, and another advisory posted for tonight, I am concerned that the drive could be dangerous for some (and perhaps the walk even hazardous for others). To that end, I have decided to postpone class tonight, and reschedule it for the first week in March. There will still be three classes in the series, but the new dates will be: 2/21 2/28 3/7 Working in a school, I know how difficult these calls can be to predict. Probably there will be no rain tonight, we all would have been fine, and I will be grumpy that I missed the opportunity to dance with you all. That being said, I would feel SO horrible if somebody had an accident or fell trying to get to class tonight with freezing rain. That being said, be well, be safe, and please email me if you have any questions or concerns. Also, if you know of anybody who was planning to come and join tonight that didn't sign up early can you spread the word to them? I will also be posting on FPF and emailed people directly, but want to get as many people as possible! Thank you, Julie
