CCA members are interested in the vitality of the arts in our lives and in our community. We all share a common interest and appreciation of the arts.

Plein air painting by Pat Willmott.
This is what a community can create when we come together (masked and distanced by the way)! The mural is complete except for the sealer we will be applying this week. We had 56 amazing volunteers who painted, as well as 6 more on our committee who planned, organized and prepared Tigg’s painting to be placed on a 987 square foot wall! What does that add up to in hours - 302 hours of volunteer painting with an additional 75 of planning and preparing! Approximately 14 gallons of paint, 10 base colors and multiple blends! And I truly have no idea how many paint brushes and rollers we used, but dozens for sure!
Stay tuned for information about our Virtual Dedication Ceremony and Volunteer Appreciation Celebration.
If you weren’t able to volunteer, but you would like to contribute to our cost of renting the lift and purchasing paint and supplies, please go to cambriacenterforthearts.org to donate. You can also check out the video that shows the progression of the mural from day one. Where do you think our next community mural should be located??
Our first Community Mural is featured on the front page of the Cambrian! Way to go CCA!
Bird’s eye view of our Community Mural!
The painters have been doing a great job on the new mural. It looks stunning from Main Street as you drive North to the end of town.
We are very excited about the progress being made on our first Community Mural Project! Drive by 555 Main St. to get a glimpse of art in action. Cambria Center for the Arts is a nonprofit organization. We would appreciate any donations to this project that will help us cover the cost of paints, supplies, and the boom lift rental. All of the work is being done by incredible volunteers. Please visit our website at cambriacenterforthearts.org to donate online, or to find the SignUo Genius link to schedule a time to volunteer!
Let the painting begin! We are seeking volunteers who are interested in adding their touch to our first community mural. If you would like to help out for 2 hours, 2 days, or even two weeks we have a place for you. Please click on the link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4aa4a92ca1fac25-community
The winning design painted by Tigg Morales will add color, joy and inspiration to Cambria!
Congratulations to Tigg Morales for creating the winning design for CCA’s first Community Mural Project! Thank you to each of the artists that submitted their work, all are wonderful selections of art and are now available to view on our website. We are keeping Tigg’s design a “secret” until the mural is complete. If you are interested in volunteering to paint the mural, please send an email to [email protected]. We will get back to you with all of the details. The project will get underway the first week of November.
About Tigg -
Tigg Morales is a local artist living in Cambria, CA. Tigg has a degree in Graphic Communications from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, but she did not start painting until age 40. Now she's painting her way through the second half of her life in a range of media: oils in the studio and watercolors when she travels. She also designs sets for local plays. "Living on the Central Coast of California, there is constant inspiration from the natural beauty of the sea, the trees, and the charming communities tucked along the coastline. I’m happiest when I’m painting: sitting on a street corner, overlooking a charming silhouette of buildings, or contemplating what’s around the bend in the road. The possibilities of what can be crafted keep me going!”
Art Submission date for the CCA Community Mural Project has been extended to October 4! Now you have time to finish that great design! Submit your art on our website. All submissions will be displayed in our virtual gallery show in October. For more information email [email protected].

Art Sherwyn and Liz Sherwyn were going to be our featured artists this month. Sadly, the pandemic would not allow us to open our doors. So, they decided to reschedule for March/April 2021. In the meantime, they offered to create a video for us as an introduction to their work and their upcoming exhibit. Enjoy

And the rainbows continue to brighten and inspire us! This one was created by Randall Lyon, with the beautiful message of “Rainbow peace is the way”.
Cambria Center for the Arts Plans Major Public Art Mural!

All local artists, students and current members of CCA (Allied Arts) are encouraged to participate in the competition to see their work chosen as the inspiration for the first of what CCA hopes will be a series of prominent Mural Projects to be placed throughout Cambria. This project will include the work of several artists, but we also encourage collaborative efforts as well.

Inspiration from Art Sherwyn:
"Hello My Fellow Art Makers, I'd like to share a few thoughts. It's important to keep your art fresh. It can get redundant and less interesting approaching ones subject matter with the same tools and knowledge every time. I have painted thousands of outdoor pieces over the past 45 years, and I could only do that because I changed the game up at times. I always had my foundation, but I needed to change it up every now and again to keep me interested and motivated. I would change the strokes, the color, my viewpoints and the materials and supplies. And, along the way it was those moments which lead to the most learning. Eventually, I started combining processes and the options become endless and limitless. While this is not in all cases, many art makers get caught up in attaining the perfect color replication as their subject matter, and the amount of struggle to get there shows in the painting. The art can lose its freshness and fluidity. I've always said, fluidity is more important than accuracy. Susan Fuquay's trees would look good in any color. So, I suggest those who are needing more excitement or are stuck on a plateau, vary the game a little at times and watch how much the spirit will applaud it. Here's a very simple activity which could provide big time learning. Devote one of your sessions to using colors that are opposite or far from the original color on the color wheel. Green trees go into the reds and/or oranges, blue sky goes into the oranges/ reds, yellow fields or straw goes into the purples/red violets/ blue violets. Red barns go into the blues, If there's a part you are not sure of, you take charge and pick the color of your choice. I've seen amazing results due to this challenge. It's freeing and fun. Its especially effective on art makers who can't get past being too literal. And often times the pieces turn out to be among the art makers favorite. There are many other art challenges one can explore. I'm sharing this with you three with the invitation to weave it into the art circles or not. I have not put too much of an edit on this; if it's something you wan to share with others and it could use a little cleaning up, be my guest". ART

Another beautiful piece of rainbow art from Natalie Riiska! Thank you also to Penny, Consuelo and the board of Cambria Historical Museum for displaying it in their garden. It’s wonderful how different organizations are joining together to support our community!
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
Quarantine has caused everyone to go a little stir crazy, even the residents of the Kansas City Zoo. So several of the penguins decided to go on a field trip to the Nelson-Atkins, which is still closed, to get a little culture.
Now here is a rainbow with every hue! Thank you to Tina and Home Arts on West Main Street. Not only are the colors vibrant and uplifting, but so are the written messages through song lyrics!
A big shout out to Dritsas & Co. for displaying their inspirational banner - “Our Strength comes in Colors!”
Thank you for your community support!
Thank you, Cutruzzola Vineyards and Reyna Jonas for supporting our community!
Another very creative rainbow, those are real egg shells! Thank you Char Estner! We are looking for a home to display this one. If you would like it at your business, let us know!

Rainbow inspiration showering on Cambria! Thank you artists - Natalie Riika (wings) Leslie Willhite (butterfly) and Michele Pike (weave). Also great appreciation to these newly added businesses- Joselyn Center, 927 Brewing, and Among Friends!
Please take part in the Cambria Community Art Project: Rainbows - from the Cambria Center for the Arts. Creating art can bring peace to the artist, and sharing art can bring inspiration to the viewer. What better way to connect us all than to share rainbows – the symbol of hope, gratitude, inspiration and joy. Here’s how you can join in: Create a rainbow from anything: draw, paint, knit, weave, sew, bake, write a rainbow song or poem, use macaroni, create a mobile. Anything goes! Add a message if you like. You may want to identify someone to whom you are grateful right now. CCA’s Rainbow Message is: “Together We Shine Through!” Decide where to display your rainbow creation: Place it in a window at home, display it somewhere else in town, or drop it off in the Rainbow Box next to the CCA entrance at 1350 Main Street and we will display it for you. (Please use social distancing while dropping off.) Post a picture or video of your rainbow project on Facebook or Instagram and tag @CambriaAlliedArts, #CambriaRainbow. Like and follow our pages to see other rainbows around town! Invite others! We’re reaching out to CUSD students, CCA Members, other community organizations, and all Cambrians to take part in this Community Art Project, so please spread the word. We’ll hang rainbows at the Center at 1350 Main Street and elsewhere around town. Drive by and see the creative work of your neighbors! When our shelter at home is over, and when our rainbows begin to fade, CCA Board Members will be responsible for taking them down and return them if desired. If you have questions, please contact us at [email protected].
