The world has been hit badly by the coronavirus which has amplified the suffering of refugees. Thousands of refugee parents are jobless and unable to feed their children, and are at risk of starvation or su***de.

In response, our annual Refugee Fundraiser launched an online Emergency Food Campaign this March, on the 10th “anniversary” of the Syrian conflict which has displaced 12 million people worldwide. In partnership with Olympic swimmer and Syrian hero Yusra Mardini @yusramardini , we aim to raise an emergency fund of $30,000 USD to serve 1000+ of the most vulnerable #Syrian and #Palestinian refugee families in Tripoli and Tyre, as well as vulnerable Lebanese families suffering from the economic collapse and inflation.
.
Each food basket costs $30-40 (depending on family size), comprising items recommended by the World Food Programme (WFP) including rice, lentils, pasta, tuna, hummus, and more. 100% of donations will go to the refugee children and their families, with no overhead.
.
With the support of trusted partner NGOs on the ground Social Center for Orphans and Widows and Women’s Humanitarian Organization, volunteer teams in each location who are trained in sanitation protocols will secure and distribute food packages to those in need. .
This #Easter and #Ramadan, we hope that all of us will rally in a spirit of giving, solidarity and compassion to keep refugee children out of starvation and support their families. Thank you for making a difference!!

In August 2020, the #UAE and #Bahrain signed the #Abraham Accords with Israel, marking the first public normalization of relations between an Arab country and Israel since Egypt in 1979 and #Jordan in 1994. What do these agreements aim to do? What is in it for the signatories and how does it alter the alliances in the region? Can they positively impact the Palestine/Israel negotiations or do they only complicate conditions for peace?

This panel will examine the various perspectives about the Accords. It will reflect on the reasoning behind the UAE and Bahrain signing the deal, and whether or not there is popular support for it? What are the security, economic, and social aspects of the Accords? How is the Agreement impacting dynamics in the #Palestinian-Israeli conflict? What new challenges and opportunities does the Agreement bring for Palestinians on the political and economic level? Join us to hear the answers from some of the top Middle East experts.

The new U.S. administration is facing many challenges in the Middle East, from the nuclear issue in Iran, to the war in Yemen, to nonstate actors and militias across the region. The situations on the ground are grim in #Yemen, #Iraq, #Syria, #Libya, and #Lebanon, and there are no clear prospects to reinvigorate the peace process or the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. What role can the United States still play to improve life in the region while maintaining its interest? Is that even possible anymore?

This panel will feature three DC thought leaders and foreign policy experts to discuss President Biden's priorities in the region. What is his administration trying to achieve? What are the challenges the United States faces and is there potential for a constructive role for the United States?

Our Story

The thirteenth annual Arab Conference at Harvard (ACH) entitled “Change by Design: Young Leaders Building the Future”, which will be held at Harvard University on March 27-29, 2020.

Previously known as the Harvard Arab Weekend (HAW), the Arab Conference at Harvard is the largest pan-Arab conference in North America, bringing together over 1300 students and professionals as well as a 20,000-strong livestream audience from across the United States and globally to learn from leaders in a diverse array of sectors.

This year, our conference will examine the power and potential of youth as they lead the Arab World into the future technological age with a focus on six main pillars: Education, Science and Technology, Art and Culture, Business and Entrepreneurship, Identity and Government. Through these lenses, ACH2020 will help narrate the complexities of an emerging chapter being experienced by Arabs and American-Arabs alike -- from rapid technological and entrepreneurial innovations, to taking to the streets to demand governmental change. This conference got canceled right?
Hi Team, With the recent virus pandemic, many companies and known figures have terminated their participation in conferences to limit the chances of multiplying the number of affected individuals. Companies like Microsoft, Google, and SAP encourage their employees to limit travel and work from home. Yes, this virus has a very high survival rate, however, the pain of experiencing is just not worth going through. Also, one would be doing society a disservice by becoming a potential victim of carrying this virus. With this, I strongly recommend that you postpone this wonderful event - not cancel it. But if cancellation is required, then full refunds would only be fair. I'm a fan of what you do but the global environment isn't in our favor.

A stable democracy is a prerequisite for the wellbeing of Sri Lankans (Daily Financial Times Sri Lanka ) Guest Column By Srimal Fernando In Sri Lanka, despite the complexity of overlapping policies, the slow pace in implementing economic policies has been of central concern in the past few years. The current political state in Sri Lanka poses a series of economic, social and foreign policy challenges brought on by an unstable government. My primary career focus has been in the healthcare, entrepreneurship and technology sectors. After earning my medical degree and completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Center at Harvard Medical School/ Massachusetts General Hospital in 2014, I joined Navigant Consulting as a Senior Healthcare Consultant for ~3 years. Most recently, I joined a healthcare technology startup working in the chronic disease management as a Senior Director. Previous work with HAAA: I served as the co-chair of the Medicine and Public Health Conference at the Harvard Arab Weekend conference in 2011 where I led an organizing committee of 15 members and organized three workshops and seminars. In the year I served, the White House commended the organizing team and described the sold-out conference as “the Premiere Arab Conference in North America”. Experience in Non-Profit Organizations: I have co-founded a 501c-3 non-for-profit organization with several Harvard and MIT alumni in Boston in 2011 called Egypt NEGMA. We formed this organization to identify and support social innovators and entrepreneurs working to solve Egypt's most significant challenges. During my years at Harvard, I was elected to several leadership positions such as: the Co-Chair of the Massachusetts General Postdoctoral Association where I established an entrepreneurship program to help scientists start their own companies and organized educational seminars targeting more than 1200 postdocs. I was also elected as the Co-Vice President of the Harvard Graduate Consulting Club in 2013 where we coordinated and ran a very successful consulting case competition between 10 teams from Harvard University and MIT. Given my previous experience in organizing and planning conferences and events, I aspire to take the world-class HAAA conference to the next level, support other board members for other events and expand our alumni database by organizing several gatherings/ events. شكراً مسبقاً على دعمكم و مساندتكم. 😊
