Boyd County Community & Economic Development
07/14/2020

Boyd County Community & Economic Development

“It is true that a business or industrial firm does not consider it necessary for a town to have beer joints as a factor in locating its plants there ... but an industrial firm does look at the social and economic attractiveness of an area ... The legal sale of alcoholic, beverages are definitely a major component in looking at these situations in each community.”

“We're concerned that maybe the community doesn't want growth ... We view [Ashland] as a town that has not grown since probably 1940, at least from the 1950 census to the 1975 estimate ... Maybe they don't want progress. If that's the feeling, maybe we should stop our growth here and go elsewhere. That's what we're trying to decide.”

These are actual quotes from Ashland Oil executives made in a New York Times article in 1979.

Keep in mind that the county’s population at this point in time was roughly 55,000 people. 40 years later the census estimate for this year is nearly 10,000 less.

Saying that this vote will have no economic impact on this community is a full on denial of reality. No one is claiming this will fix everything. But it is something different and it could be just the spark we need. If you agree, please sign the petition below👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇

Transparency. A word that you have heard me say many times over the last few years. It’s something I believe in and something I have tried to embrace. That’s why I thought it only fair to create this video expressing my feelings on why I support the current campaign to make Boyd County wet. If you agree, I ask that you sign the petition at www.votewetboyd.com

We are sad to announce the 1st annual Food Truck Festival has been cancelled. After careful consultation with public health officials about the challenges concerning COVID-19, we feel it’s best to bring this event to our community next year. Your health and safety is our number one priority and we want you to enjoy this event the way we envision it! Thank you for your support and we look forward to bringing this back to our community in 2021!

🚨🚨ATTENTION🚨🚨

I want to first apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but according to Kentucky state law, we have no choice. I learned of the clerks departure only after reading the article posted yesterday in the The Daily Independent. I was just as surprised as anyone. However, know that I am working diligently to find an interim clerk and we will have the office functioning normally within a week. If you have any questions, please reach out to me.

This will not affect any of our efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and it remains priority number one. Just like everything else, we will get through this #TogetherForTomorrow

A few days ago the governor urged local leaders to create their own PSA’s concerning COVID-19 to help spread the importance of following the guidelines set by the state and CDC.

Please share ours so that others can understand the importance of protecting our community’s most vulnerable.

It has been brought to my attention that several rumors have been floating around social media relating to the closure of our state borders and a plan to implement martial law next week. These rumors are COMPLETELY FALSE. I am in constant communication with the governor’s administration and our public health officials. I have been assured that there is NO PLAN to implement martial law or close our borders with West Virginia or Ohio. Any claim otherwise is FALSE.

Every evening we provide an update on actions taken and any further actions that are to take place. This update is a coordinated effort by every entity involved in this crisis. If you do not see it on that update, straight from the governor’s office or from the president’s COVID-19 taskforce, consider it false. It is vitally important that you pay attention to all media announcements from Governor Beshear and President Trump. And though these rumors are just that, it is still extremely important that you follow ALL of the CDC guidelines pertaining to COVID-19.

At any time you have questions or concerns, I can be reached through Facebook, email ([email protected]), call or text (606-922-7742). This is a very serious situation and we don’t need false information making it worse. Please verify any information before sharing on social media. This will be a long journey, but we only get through it if we all work #TogetherForTomorrow

We are going to try our best to put one of these out each night. Just to keep citizens as up to date as we can. It will probably be repetitive at times, but I’d rather you have information twice than not at all. Hopefully this helps. Please share please. #TogetherForTomorrow

374 (and counting!).

That's the number of good nights' rest that children in the FIVCO area have been able to get in their beds' thanks to our Ashland Build-A-Bed program!

We can't say enough about the 260 volunteers and 65 sponsors that came together recently to build 204 more beds in just one day for children that need them in Eastern Kentucky! Thank you for making a lasting impact on kids and families! 🛏

Shout out to State Farm for the neighborhood assistance program; funding from their grant helps provide 100 beds!
