Christopher Plummer, 'Sound of Music' star, dead at 91

Shared from the Binghamton German Club.

“A largely fictionalized account about an Austrian family led to one of the most popular non-German German songs in history.

(So many believe Edelweiss to be an old German folksong, when it is in fact a contemporary American composition.

We still love the song, the movie and the beloved Captain.

Rest in peace Herr Plummer.”

Christopher Plummer, an Oscar, Tony and Emmy-award winning actor best known for his role in "The Sound of Music," has died at the age of 91.

What German cultural traditions are so common in WNY, that people don’t even realize they are German?

German American Musicians Association Inc

From the GAM Family to you and yours!

With everyone's safety in mind, we did not play the German Christmas Mass (Weihnachtsmesse) at St. Louis in Buffalo this year. We always play traditional German Christmas carols prior to Mass, and "Stille, Stille, Stille" was slated to be one of them. Each individual part of this virtual performance was recorded safely at home and brought together with beautiful Christmas imagery. Please spread some joy today by sharing our video Christmas card with your friends and family!

Merry Christmas,
The German-American Musicians Association

Would you tell him??

Would you tell him??

This one is making the rounds...

Theoretical Question: If I transfer an cat food from an open can into a tupperware bowl, and put it in the refrigerator, and if I forgot to leave a note on it, and if my husband made himself a sandwich with it because he thought it was schmear Wurst...
And if he's already eaten it...
Am I obligated to tell him?

how long would you last in this competition?

An important day!

An important day!

On this day in 1683, the Concord landed in Philadelphia. It carried 13 Mennonite families from Krefeld, who established the first German settlement in the American colonies and called it Germantown. Three-hundred years later, Ronald Reagan proclaimed October 6th to be "German-American Day." If you could thank these families for preserving any piece of German tradition, what would that be?

Event Update from the Buffalo German Fest.

Event Update from the Buffalo German Fest.

Dear Federation members, German Community, and all Festival attendees.

After much discussion, it has been decided that the 2020 Buffalo German Fest on Labor Day weekend held at Cheektowaga town park will not take place.

We are very disappointed in this decision, but feel it’s the best for all concerned. For our attendees, vendors, and volunteers.

We will see you next year, for a culture such as this will not allow a virus to kill the tradition!
