As most of you who follow this page know, we had a series of events that caused us to delay the ride from this past fall, until sometime in the spring. We also asked for opinions on a few things to get us rolling, and have taken heed to the thoughts, advice and ideas given.

We have been working hard to not only nail down dates, bringing in more folks to helps us with logistics, and also taking a larger look at the route overall.

Because of that we can announce that we are fairly close to having an official announcement made of dates and the final route, but we wanted to give you a sneak peak at the current planning route. It runs from Memphis, TN to Cleburne, TX, and is about 615 miles long.

For those looking for segments, and/or stages, we've figured that in too (with stages of 75-110 miles), and will let all of that information out when we make the official announcements.

Currently, we are looking at dates for either the beginning of June or end of September. (Your input on this is ALWAYS welcome!)

We are also interested in talking with anyone/company who might want to expand their reach in the bikepacking world, by partnering with us as a sponsor at any level.

Also, PLEASE feel free to share with all of your cycling and bikepacking friends!

This coming Saturday, Oct 12th, The RAT 1000 (Race Across Texas) kicks off, and Team Tugg Cycling and Triathlon and Pedaling Dementia will be doing it! (or at least I will be!)
This is the ride we are riding to help raise awareness and funds for research and programs for the The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, in place of this year's Kim Ovard Ride To Remember. The official donation page is here: https://www.classy.org/fundraiser/2290119

Some folks have asked how much they should donate, and the answer is whatever you feel comfortable donating to help find a cure for dementia!
Some asked about sponsoring per mile, and we think that is awesome too! $.01 a mile would be a donation of $10.00. $.02 a mile would be a donation of $20.00, $.05 a mile would be a donation of $50. $.10 (just one thin dime) per mile would be a donation of $100 and $.25 a mile would be a donation of $250. And every amount helps getting us closer to finding a cure! Again, here's the link: https://www.classy.org/fundraiser/2290119

Please share so others can help too!

You can also be a "dot watcher" and follow along online! Everyone who donates will get a special link to my SPOT Tracker page! And later this week, I'll post a link to the event page to follow all riders/racers during the event on Spotwalla.com (You can even know where the riders will be on route if you want to come out and cheer any of us on! - or be a trail angel with bottles of water)

ANNOUNCEMENT:

We were all stoked for the inaugural Kim Ovard Ride to Remember that was set to take off from Newton Kansas this Thursday (September 19th) and riders to ride the course some 670 miles and ending in Burleson, Texas.

BUT, due to many factors, most of which on their own would not postpone the ride, but taken all together at the same time, leaves us with no choice but to postpone the ride until a date to be determined in the spring. Most likely late April or early May. We deeply regret having to make this decision at this late hour, but we currently don't see any way around it. (Al registered riders have been informed)

The bright side in this is that founder, and bike racer/rider, Blake will be participating in the 1000 mile Race Across Texas, which starts in Texarkana on October 12th, and he will be riding that ride as the fundraiser ride for The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration. So, the fundraising effort is still going! Here's the link: www.classy.org/fundraiser/2290119

So, a couple of weeks after I get back from the 700 mile Kim Ovard Ride to Remember gravel and dirt ride from Kansas to Texas, (link to donate to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration is: http://www.classy.org/fundraiser/2290119 ), I'll be taking on The RAT Race Across Texas - a 1,000 mile gravel and dirt race (or ride) across the Lone Star State.

George Hincapie gave us all a shoutout! Hope he will follow along with the dots!

If you donate to the AFTD for the Kim Ovard Ride To Remember, please let me know if you want the password to follow along with my dot, on my SPOT GPS tracking for both rides! It's almost like being there (but none of the pain and suffering!) You can also follow the photos as I post them right on Pedaling Dementia.

The Ride to Remember starts on the 19th - like in a week! And the RAT starts on Oct 12th.
Thanks for the shout out George!

More RAT info will be coming out fast and furious this week including stage race/semi supported options.

Pedaling Dementia

An update on the scouting ride from Kansas to Texas:
With the selling of our shop, I'm not going to make the departure date to get dropped off in Kansas, for the scouting ride. Additionally, flooding through parts of OK, KS and TX, means the roads aren't really in the best shape for it, and many are closed. This means there are a couple of options and outcomes:
1) For the Alzheimer's Association: The Longest Day ride, I will map a local route, and will be riding locally for anyone who wants to ride along (Friday the 21st) That route will be planned this weekend, and will probably end up being a tour from bike shop to bike shop in the DFW area, including riding from Cleburne to Burleson, to Fort Worth to Dallas, and back. (Planning on mid-day meal in Deep Ellum, maybe dinner and pie back in Fort Worth)
2) I can plan a later scouting trip to Kansas, leaving here, riding up and riding back, later in the summer, probably mid-late July. Anyone who would like to take that adventure with me, please let me know.
OR
3) I can skip the scouting ride all together, and just make it an adventure in September when we do the ride for real.

Any input is always welcome, especially if you want to go on any of the adventure with me!

OK, here are some updates (in no particular order):

So the scouting ride is set for starting Wednesday, June 19th (probably around sun-up or after getting coffee). Will be starting at the Newton Bike Shop in Newton, Kansas, and headed down through Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas on (mostly) dirt and gravel roads, with pavement only where we have too - mostly around towns.

Since I will be on route on the Alzheimer's Association: The Longest Day, I won't be at Longest Day - Geek Out suppprting the Alzheimer's Association - but Team Tugg members will still be riding all day from the shop. I plan on this taking probably through the weekend to arrive at Geek Out. (I'm going to be doing some extra photography along the way)

I have to clean up the route so I can post a gpx file (or on Ride With GPS, since I am an ambassador there) for those who may want it (and/or just show you a map for the rest of you), then I will post that as well.

You can join in on the ride in person, or virtually, as I will contact Matthew at Trackleaders.com and give him the route so you can "dot watch" from anywhere in the world. Beacuse I'll have my SPOT Tracking with me. If you want to ride with me on any or all of the route, you are more than welcome to do so! -- And, if you are from the Fort Worth area, and need a lift to Kansas for the start, let me know!

We still don't have a date set for the actual ride, but know that it probably will be after the scorching summer months - probably around September.

I will also be using the #RideToRemember tag all the way on the trip for social media, so feel free to follow that hashtag, where appropriate (FB, Instagram and Twitter) Or you can follow these FB pages: mine- (Blake Ovard), this page- (Kim Ovard Ride To Remember), or Pedaling Dementia. On Instagram, follow me, Blake Ovard, and on Twitter, it will be on Tugg's page- Tugg Bull Terrier (it's the only Twitter I have)

And, finally, my wife and son will be dropping me off in Kansas, and then wanted to take the opportunity to take "one last trip" together back to Missouri. You may have seen that my son put up a small Go Fund Me to help them do this. Here is the link if you want to check it out/share, etc. gf.me/u/rrtuhy
