A BIG thank you to Sara Miller Leary for her kind donation of a laptop to get our new paperless scoring system rolling!! Do you have a laptop sitting around collecting dust that you're not using? We'd love to have it at Loch Moy Farm. IT geniuses Steve Symansky and Nicolas Hinze have been hard at work developing the new program. We want this to be a success so all events benefit from it. It just has to be able to run Google Chrome and have a numeric keypad. If you're interested in learning to be a dressage scribe with the new system, please let us know! Handwriting may be a thing of the past unfortunately!

Licensed Boarding and Lesson barns can operate under “Permitted Outdoor Activities” and Paragraph III

From the Governor’s Amended Executive Order:
Maryland’s equine community is ready to use their common sense and horse sense. These have been extremely challenging times for the people of Maryland, and the state’s horse industry, and we appreciate your continued cooperation as we navigate this unprecedented pandemic response.

We are happy to share some good news with you. Though the Stay at Home order remains in effect, Governor Larry Hogan has loosened restrictions on specific outdoor recreational activities, including horseback riding! The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has outlined requirements for social distancing as it relates to horseback riding. It's going to be up to us as individuals to make this work and stay healthy as we progress toward the Maryland Strong: Roadmap to Recovery.

General Social Distancing Guidelines: (coronavirus.maryland.gov)

* Marylanders must wear masks or cloth face coverings in retail spaces and on public transportation since Saturday, April 18
* Practice social distancing — keep distance between yourself and others and avoid crowds
* If you are sick, stay home and call your health care provider

From the Governor’s Amended Executive Order

From the Order of the Governor of the state of Maryland
Number 20-05-06-01

Amending and restating the order of March 30, 2020, prohibiting large gatherings and events and closing senior centers, and all non-essential businesses and other establishments, and additionally requiring all persons to stay at home

II. Stay-at-Home Order.

c. As used herein, “Permitted Outdoor Activities” means the following, done in compliance with paragraph III below, applicable Secretary’s Directives, Health Officer Directives, and social distancing guidance published by CDC and MDH: i. Outdoor exercise activities, such as walking, hiking, running, biking, or individual and small group sports such as golfing, tennis, and similar activities; ii. Outdoor fitness instruction; iii. Recreational fishing, hunting, shooting, and archery; iv. Recreational boating; v. Horseback riding; and vi. Visiting cemeteries.

Paragraph III. Gatherings Larger Than 10 Persons Prohibited. a. Social, community, spiritual, religious, recreational, leisure, and sporting gatherings and events of more than 10 people (“large gatherings and events”) are hereby prohibited at all locations and venues, including but not limited to parades, festivals, conventions, and fundraisers. b. Planned large gatherings and events must be canceled or postponed until after termination of the state of emergency and the proclamation of the catastrophic health emergency has been rescinded.

Licensed Boarding and Lesson barns can operate under “Permitted Outdoor Activities” and Paragraph III

Guidance from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources
Effective immediately, horseback riding activities, including riding in state parks, is allowed, however:

* Equestrians must be riding with immediate family members or people with which they reside.
- No more than 10 people may be included in a given party.
* Social distancing guidelines MUST be followed.
* No organized rides, gatherings, or races will be authorized.
* Please continue to take care of yourself, your neighbor, and your horses.

Fair Hill International

We know there's not an awful lot to cheer about these days. But you, loyal friends, are making US cheer! THANK YOU for your support!

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, we have had to cancel all scheduled Events through the Spring. Accordingly, we have had no income. By the end of May, we will have lost nearly 50% of expected annual income.

Mary Coldren, FHI’s Competition Manager, and her team must maintain operations, event equipment, and the cross-country course so that FHI can resume competitions as soon as the current restrictions are lifted.

We need your help! https://www.fairhillinternational.org/fhi-friends-of-fair-hill-international/

Possible DATE CHANGE for Spring Horse Trials

Thanks to the continued and very REAL Covid concerns, and with the recent USEF Event suspension extension, we explored other dates and are now seeking approval from the USEF to run our event on JUNE 13 and 14. This is the canceled date of Seneca Valley. STAY TUNED…

We are looking forward to the next time we can host our event, especially with so many changes to share—Jeff Kibbie as our course designer, new logistics, improved warm up areas and the inclusion of our new DRESSAGE TEST OF CHOICE!! Now, have the opportunity to ‘practice’ a test before doing your competition ride! Further details in our Omnibus listing.

We have a great group of people at Waredaca, who could pull off running a proper event if we have 2 weeks of prep time. Our decision to run or cancel will depend on the directives of the USEA, USEF and our Governor, since Maryland is still under a State of Emergency, and what we feel is the ‘right’’ decision for everyone.

Trust that if we are granted permission to change dates, with your assistance and effort, together we can offer a weekend of eventing in a ‘safe’ environment. With a revised entry policy, check in and day of management, we feel confident in having riders visit and compete.

And if we do not see you the end of May, we look forward to hopefully seeing everyone in Mid-August!
