A recent study on New Year’s resolutions found that about 40% of Americans set resolutions at the start of the year, and less than half are successful after six months. We all want to make positive and impactful changes in our lives, but how can we make the changes last?

Keep them realistic. When setting resolutions, it’s important to take time to reflect on the change you wish to see and what you realistically can do to achieve that change. By taking smaller, more achievable steps towards your goals, there is a greater chance that you will keep them.

This applies to all kinds of resolutions, including mental health. You can help manage your mental health symptoms by taking small steps every day:

You've survived the seemingly endless plates of Christmas cookies and desserts offered to you this holiday season. You've turned down countless cups of hot chocolate and eggnog. But now those dazzling glasses of champagne are calling your name. We've all been there. It's hard to say no to all of the festive indulgences that everyone else will be enjoying on New Year's Eve.

While you don’t need to deprive yourself at every cocktail party and dinner event, it’s important to stick to your goals and your plan, no matter how tempting that fountain of chocolate fondue by the doorway may be. The biggest thing to remember if you’re hesitant to attend a big celebration, is that you are in control. Check out these four tips to help avoid overindulging this New Year: https://www.pritikin.com/tips-to-avoid-overindulging-on-new-years-eve

With all of the family bonding, jam-packed schedules and expectations, it’s no wonder we may feel burnt out, exhausted and overwhelmed once the new year comes around. If we don’t properly cope with the feelings that emerged during the holidays, the emotions can linger and wreak havoc on our minds and bodies. That’s why setting aside “me” time after the long month of December is crucial for our health and wellbeing.

Once the holidays are over, the new year is all about the self. We let go of bad habits that no longer serve us. We set goals to improve our lives and strive to achieve them. So, what better way is there to kick off a new year and a new decade than by following self-care practices that will leave you feeling refreshed, refocused and re-centered for the upcoming year.

Check out these helpful, post-holiday tips: https://tracyanderson.com/practicing-self-care-after-the-holidays/

If you are like most people, COVID-19 has led to the “COVID 15.” While the pandemic may have changed our routines and led to higher numbers on the scale, safe and healthy weight loss is still possible, even from home.

In this second episode of Fitness Over 40, Ann Marie Wakula, a certified trainer and an over-40 mother of three, has some strategies for how to get back on track with healthy habits. She is the host of the Fitness Over 40 series, brought to you by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. The three-minute videos feature tips and mini workouts people can incorporate into their daily lives, even at home.

“This pandemic threw everybody off, and you shouldn’t be embarrassed or ashamed if you gained some weight because it’s the norm right now,” said Wakula. “I have a lot of clients contacting me asking me how to lose weight.”

This year has been stressful in many ways. With a global pandemic, social injustices, and a hectic presidential election, just to name a few. 2020 has not been easy. For many, our mental health has been put on the backburner and chipped away without resources, counselors and routines of self-care we did outside of the house. But throughout quarantine, I’ve discovered some at home self-care to keep my sanity.

Perhaps you have the most immaculate to-do lists; you even organize your calendar down to the very minute—and yet, you might feel that your work performance is suffering. You're not alone—even if you may feel that way. The reason you might not feel as productive is not for lack of drive or organizational prowess. It might just be because you are lonely.

Intermittent fasting, which puts more of an emphasis on when you're eating rather than what you're eating, has quickly become a popular eating style. Not only can you incorporate intermittent fasting (IF) into any diet plan, but IF has science-backed benefits that range from weight loss to increased energy to reduced risk of chronic health problems like type 2 diabetes.

But what if there was an eating plan that took it a step further by not only timing your meals but making sure those meals are in line with your body's internal clock? Turns out, there is. And this less-talked-about form of fasting, called circadian rhythm fasting or the circadian rhythm diet, has some serious benefits.

Find out what circadian rhythm fasting is and the benefits, here:

When most people think of therapy, a myriad of different thoughts and possibly a variety of emotions are likely to occur.

Some find the thought of therapy scary, while others look at it as a new journey. No matter how you feel about it, you may have a lot of questions about therapy, including exactly what it is, where to start or find a therapist, what to expect and what options are available to you. The decision to seek therapy for your mental well-being is an important one. With so many different options and information to know, it can be a lot to take in and process.

Typical therapy for mental health usually talks about therapy. Often therapy is one on one with you and a trained, licensed therapy; however, there are several types of therapy, a number of different types of therapists, and many therapeutic orientations and approaches, some of which go beyond traditional talk therapy.

Struggling for exercise motivation during the festive season? Strong Women’s first ever fitness advent calendar could be just what you need.

November is officially on its way out, which can only mean one thing: Christmas is just around the corner! As we all know, though, this probably won’t be Christmas quite as we know it, with coronavirus restrictions meaning that our usual meet-ups with friends and family will have to be limited, at least in the first few weeks of December.

Not to worry, though, because there are still plenty of festive fixtures to look forward to over the next few weeks. So, while you’re drinking your fill of mulled wine and marathoning all of your favorite Christmas films, you can also look forward to a fun-filled countdown to the big day.
