Bicycle Ride Around Dunwoody (BRAD)

Bicycle Ride Around Dunwoody (BRAD) As part of Lemonade Days sponsored by the Dunwoody Preservation Trust Saturday April 13, 2013

BRAD (Bike Ride Around Dunwoody) is a recreational bike ride for individual riders and families who would like to support Dunwoody becoming a more bicycle-friendly community.

Proceeds from this low-cost event will be used to purchase & install bike racks throughout our city. Three different distances covering all abilities with staggered start times means everyone finishes around the same time. Join us after the ride at the starting location in Brook Run for post-ride festivities of food, music and raffles!

Bike Walk Dunwoody

Five weeks ago today the founder of this group, Joe Seconder, while riding his bike in North Georgia on a rural, 35 mph road was crashed into by a person operating a motor vehicle car. Joe is recovering, and it could have been much worse. We hope our Dunwoody and neighboring friends will join Joe in supporting local advocacy and the work of Georgia Bikes and come to Athens the weekend of October 12-14 for the 2018 Georgia Bikes Summit. If we collaborate, we CAN make a difference. https://georgiabikes.org/events/531-2018-georgia-bike-summit-presented-by-bike-law-georgia

Last minute notice: Sunday (tomorrow) morning at 8 am volunteers needed to measure Chamblee-Dunwoody street widths between Womack & Roberts drive. Meet at the Dunkin Donuts. We're collecting FACTS to present to our Public Works department to ask for re-striping & leaving wide paved shoulders once that segment is repaved. It is scheduled to be repaved imminently. It isn't wide enough to put in bike lanes. We are asking that car lanes be striped to either 9 or 10-ft wide, and the rest is left over to create SAFER places for persons on bicycles to navigate thru this critical destination area in the Dunwoody Village. (Aside: There is a long-term analysis just being undertaken to plan for safe bicycle infrastructure thru this corridor. In the meantime, leaving 2-4 feet of paved shoulder will help calm traffic and offer added safety for persons on bicycles)

Last-minute call for action: TONIGHT (Mon 5/23) Dunwoody Club Drive repaving between Mt. Vernon & bike-friendly Happy Hollow, a joint project between Dunwoody & Sandy Springs. This is a great opportunity to do it RIGHT and -- at least -- add wide, paved shoulders in the UPHILL portions. Lots of excess right-turn lanes to nowhere. Can re-align and re-stripe. If you support this, please do one of two things: 1) Come to city hall (41 Perimeter Center East) by 5:45 pm, sign up for Public Comments & let your voice be heard; 2) Send an email of support to: [email protected] and copy: [email protected] & [email protected]

Bicycle Ride Around Dunwoody Survey

Since 2010, the Bicycle Ride Around Dunwoody (BRAD) event has been held on the Saturday morning as part of the Lemonade Days (from the Dunwoody Preservation Trust) festival (this year is scheduled for April 17 - 21). Unfortunately for 2013, we are unable to hold the event on the Saturday, as there is a new 5k running event being held at the same time. We are left with a few options, and would like to get your feedback.
