So excited to announce our next production: SEEDFOLKS, By Paul Fleischman. A little Vietnamese girl literally changes the landscape of her urban neighborhood in Cleveland, OH when she plants a garden hoping to connect to her deceased father. The locals find out more about each other and themselves as they plant the seeds in their run down lot. Our audio performance will be accompanied by original art work for an audio/visual experience! December 11 and 12 at 7pm.

So our first show for the year is over. No applause (though some lovely comments from audience members!), no cast party and no set to strike. No costumes to clean, no dressing rooms to clean up. No food to clean up from hell week and hell week was but just a few hours midweek. I'm very proud of what my students have done and my google meet circles yesterday and today were filled with very grateful and positive students. It's not the same. It's different. And it's good. Until the curtain (in a theatre or in our imaginations) rise again- good night all! And thanks for listening.

Annie (Rebecca) Stamp was one of the three little pigs, one of the three blind mice, a dragonet and a tap-dancing rat in SHREK THE MUSICAL. When Mrs. De Marco needed a choreographer for INTO THE WOODS, Annie eagerly took the role! She has played “Choreographer” for THE PAJAMA GAME, ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND, THE 25TH ANNUAL SPELLING BEE and before SEUSSICAL was cancelled because of a pandemic, she had choreographed more than have of the show. She also received an honorable mention for best actress at VHSL for her role in POLITRICKS and was recently seen in this year’s production of A CHORUS LINE at Fairfax Academy High School. Annie took on a leadership position her Junior year when we needed a Vice President for the Thespian Honor Society and has been serving in that capacity ever since. She also trained herself on lights at the Creative Cauldron and passed the required technical theatre exams to be hired in the county as a county tech. Annie also receives a distinguished honor award from the FOGs (Friends of George Robert Allen, the Theatre Teacher that inspired many students and the start of a scholarship fund). Annie will be pursuing a career in Theatre and Dance at the School of Education in the University of Wisconsin- Madison. PLEASE check out her work in the following video. So proud! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8UnI7ihujE

Peter Manarin started out as the Ugly Duckling in SHREK THE MUSICAL and then played Squire Trelawney in TREASURE ISLAND, the Narrator in INTO THE WOODS, Es Sindibad in ARABIAN NIGHTS, Pop in THE PAJAMA GAME, Vice President Douglas Panch in THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE and would have played Horton in SEUSSICAL this spring had we ended the school year as planned! Peter has been a member of the Thespian Honor Society since his freshman year and has participated in many Broadway Sweets productions and other fundraisers. Peter also receives a distinguished honor award from the FOGs (Friends of George Robert Allen, the Theatre teacher that inspired many students and the start of a scholarship fund) and a $200 scholarship. (Also pictured below is when he represented FCHS as in the Kennedy Center CAPPIES GALA in 2018) Peter will be attending Christopher Newport University next year. Best of luck, Peter! We know you’ll go far!

There are still Theatre seniors to honor, so let's get to it!
Sarah Mack was also one of the three little pigs, the three blind mice, a dragonet and a tap-dancing rat in SHREK THE MUSICAL. Sarah received an “all-star cast award” at the Virginia Theatre Association conference her Freshman year for her role in ME AND MY SHADOW and went on to play Little Red Riding Hood in INTO THE WOODS, Gladys in THE PAJAMA GAME and Olive Ostrovsky in THE 25TH ANNUAL SPELLING BEE. She has been a Thespian since her sophomore year and has participated in many of our fundraisers, including Broadway Sweets! Sarah also receives a distinguished honor award from the FOGs (Friends of George Robert Allen, the Theatre teacher that inspired many students and the start of a scholarship fund) and a $200 scholarship. She will be attending Longwood University next year and pursuing a career in nursing. Best of luck to you, Sarah!

There are still some Theatre seniors to honor so let's get to it!
I (Mrs. De Marco) first met Katie Parker when Grace Ollivant introduced her to me as someone that could paint our Spotlight Theatre Company logo on the outside of the newly installed costume shop in the classroom. She did an amazing job! She came to help out the paint crew, painting the best bricks on our PAJAMA GAME SET. She really had her work cut out for her when I asked her to create a trippy checkerboard vortex scene design for ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND. The end result was fantastic! I had the privilege of working with Katie again in a live art experience doing sand art for our one act this year THE YELLOW BOAT. I can’t wait to hear what Katie will do next at VCU arts next year! Best of luck to you!

The last few days have been super busy, but there are more seniors to honor, so let's get to it! We will miss them all so much!
Ella Newman was on running crew for several shows and was Assistant Stage Manager for ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND. She co-stage managed THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE and this year was seen on the Fairfax Academy stage as an ensemble member (and great dancer!) in A CHORUS LINE. We wish her all the best of luck as she goes off to VCU next year! Keep dancing, Ella!

Dear FOGs (Friends of GRAllen), Alumni and Friends of the Arts, The GRAllen Memorial Scholarship is alive for it's 15th season, but desperately needs your help. The school year is coming to and end, and once again, we need a big push to make the awards happen. We know that times are hard for some, but any little bit helps to keep our beloved Mr Allen in the hearts and minds of students at Falls Church High School's Drama Department. Donations are being gratefully accepted through PAYPAL again this year. PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ALUMNI WHO ARE NOT ON FACEBOOK OR THE EMAIL LIST. THE EASIEST WAY TO DONATE: Simply go to www.paypal.com, and send a donation to the email address [email protected] - you can use either your bank account through paypal or use a credit card. EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS! https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=DJDDQXHKR89NA&source=url This is the best we can work with now that Melinda and Broadarts are no longer able to take donations for us. If you wish to send a check, make it out to: GRALLEN AWARDS/Wes Johnson, and private message me for my address. We appreciate the many years you have generously donated so that students at FCHS continue being rewarded for their dedication to the drama program, and to keep names appearing on the GRAllen perpetual plaque that is on display near the auditorium for years and years to come. Thank you all for keeping our teacher, mentor and friend, George Robert Allen alive in the hearts and minds of Falls Church High School Drama Students, or as Melinda Pittman would always say: "Thanks for sending your donation to support the next generation of drama kids as they graduate into our real, challenging, inspiring world of live theater!" And as George Robert Allen would say, remember to "PRO-JECT!!" Wes Johnson [email protected] https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=DJDDQXHKR89NA&source=url
