Before Anything Else
It’s my wife’s birthday…today, June 7th.
We are not supposed to mention “years,” but let’s just say this is one of those birthdays ending with an “0” so it’s a big deal.
Rana retired to take care of me and my many needs, a task she approaches with good humor and intelligence. Home care beats hospital care, especially when your care giver is a registered nurse.
Happy Birthday, Rana. I wouldn’t be here without you. I love you to distraction…and Yes, I took my Meds. Paul Petersen

June never gets old...not with Father's Day in it. For me a magical moment developed out of a single scene in a single episode of a series I literally grew up in when I got to sing the ever-popular song "My Dad" to Carl Betz, my Donna Reed Show father.
It's nice to be known, and even better to be known for something good...like fatherhood.
In a world that seems to have gone astray it's comforting to know that you contributed to something lasting and important.
Happy Father's Day, 2021.

Mid-May Recap
The final arrangements for Johnny Crawford will soon be announced. The permanent headstone for Lee William Aaker will shortly be in place. My travel gear is all set so Rana and I will be ready to attend wherever and whenever the plans are set.
Life is endlessly complex...both ends of it. I've posted photos of the new babies who've joined the Family, each birth softening the pain of permanent loss. We took our masks off to celebrate our neighbor's birthday at Olive Garden on the very day her late son Charles was born who died five years ago. I so appreciate remaining as a witness to this fabric of life and remain permanently startled by your support and friendship.

With Johnny's passing on April 29th we will soon be shutting down his Alzheimer's Fund with Go Fund Me.
Thank you...all of you...for your support for this fine and talented man. Charlotte and Bobby share in this gratitude.
The recent death of Lee Aaker (Rin Tin Tin) reminds all of us how quickly former kid stars can leave us, so a new charity effort will be created to sustain a General Welfare fund.
On behalf of A Minor Consideration and all its members...past, present and future...I thank you. Paul Petersen, Chairman, AMC

Johnny Crawford Slipped Away
Bad news that arrives just before bedtime is particularly disturbing. So it was when Bobby Crawford called to tell us his brother was finally claimed by Alzheimers, April 29th, 2021, age 75.
Go to your rest, Johnny. You've earned it.
We were with you in the beginning when you became a Mouseketeer, and we were with you in the end as Alzheimer's eroded your vitality.
So long, dear friend. You have meant so much for so long to so many the language is not big enough. Paul Petersenhttps://www.gofundme.com/f/2ty7s4-johnny-crawford039s-alzheimer039s-fund?utm_campaign=p_cp_url&utm_medium=os&utm_source=customer

Goodness and Mercy and Lee Aaker's Death
I spent decades telling Lee he had nothing to fear from the people he helped and entertained over the years. The kindness revealed in your comments is the proof and warms this cowboy's heart. Same for Johnny Crawford. Both men gave so much.
Special thanks go out to Steven in the Maricopa Indigent Services office for his compassion, all done without knowing Lee's unique past.
So, too, do we commend Tatiana and Tabitha at the Samaritan Funeral Home who took possession of Lee's earthly remains and connected with the Air Force, which has found a site for Lee at the VA National Cemetary near Phoenix.
I will have complete details in about a month.
Finally, let me tell you about my friendship with Lee Aaker. We were and are Columbia Kids, growing up at that studio, even sharing the redoubtable Studio Teacher, Dr. Lillian Barkley. We loved fast cars and faster women. We always had each others' back, with plenty of black eyes to prove it.
Lee's mother owned a dance studio in nearby Inglewood. Lee was a good tap dancer as he proved when he paired with Shelley Fabares when he guest starred on The Donna Reed Show.
I tell you this because many years later when Lee was enduring much reduced circumstances he called me out of the blue to ask a question.
"After my mother died we were going through her things and I noticed she had a closet full of expensive fur coats. Do you think she was using my money?"
I want to thank all of you who've rememered Lee Aaker so fondly.
We've got his back. Paul Petersen

The newsletter from The Donna Reed Foundation came in today. I miss going to Donna's hometown of Denison, Iowa.
I was about to call my cousins when still more news arrived from my sister, Patti...telling me that the newly arrived baby, Riley Jean, had gained five ounces in her first five days on Earth: 3lbs and 2 oz...and doing well.
If you want you can catch up on foundation news by going to

How Did You Get Started?
Many years ago I was taking an acting class in NYC given by Darryl Hickman, once a child actor but by then an Industry executive. He got to talking about getting his start in show business...at age Two.
"I asked my Mom," he told us, "Why did you get me into the business when I could barely walk?"
"Why Dahling," she replied using her best Ethel Merman voice, "Because you WANTED to."

UCLA has this vaccine procedure figured out, at least based on my experience today.
I had a 2:10 appointment, arrived 20 minutes early, and quickly realized that it was Seniors' Day. I was one of the Young Pups. Imagine that at 75!
There were a dozen computers and twice as many nurses. We wore our masks, kept our distance, and followed instructions. I was not the only person with a walker and portable oxygen. Heart and lung risks were charted, and in due time I had my Moderna vaccine...upper left arm. No sweat. They scheduled my 2nd shot while I sat through a waiting period, then I was done and on my way home. We stopped at Wendy's for chocolate shakes to celebrate. Well done, UCLA. Paul Petersen

Another Lost Sunday
It pains me to note that our church remains closed. Perhaps more of the congregation will access the vaccine now available. I go tomorrow.
Schools remain closed. The kids are missing so much...far more than learning. In my day the California school system was the envy of the world.
My local Elks Lodge is still shuttered so the women and men who believe in community service can't get together to marshall our talents.
No school, no church, no charity.
Nothing to see here. Move along.

A Gentle Memory for Trying Times.
My youngest son, Ethan, loved Knight Rider
and especially Kitt. I just heard David Hasselhoff is auctioning off his personal Camaro. It sparked this memory.
Before Ethan's tonsil surgery many years ago I drove him past a Knight Rider location shoot in our neighborhood and through a friend let David know his biggest fan wanted to say hello. In moments David Hasselhoff himself appeared at our car window. "Hello Little Man," he said to a wide-eyed four year old. "I hear you're going to the doctor this morning. You're going to be just fine. Kitt and I will be watching out for you."
A small kindness, fondly remembered. The surgery went smoothly for a brave little boy.
Across the decades, thanks again, David.

What do you suppose the message was meant to convey with the explosion on Christmas morning in the heart of America’s country and western music scene?
Do not rush to judgment.
The usual suspects are already shaping opinions based not on truth but on their personal political agendas.
This was deliberate. Let us be deliberate as well. Paul Petersen

Excerpt from Donna Reed Scrapbook.
Buster Keaton Visits Donna
You have to know what an honor it was to have Buster Keaton guest-starring on our show. He was a Giant…and man revered by those inside the industry and out. He was well into his 80’s when he came to play a hospital janitor who did special things for children at Christmas Time.
We were all abuzz, especially when we learned that Mr. Keaton had but one request; to be allowed a “silent bit” working in a crowded basement filled with lots of “stuff.”
Max, our Property Master, went nuts and filled the newly constructed set with everything a classic “Silent Era” comic might require…and then some. When the day came for filming this “bit” our sound stage began to fill up with people we only rarely saw…senior executives, cast members from other shows filming on the Columbia Pictures lot…crew men from other shows and scores of secretaries…all to see an aging Master at work.
Gert Anderson, cinematographer, flooded the set with light, loaded a full 1,000 feet of film into our 35 millimeter B. Mitchell camera…about 9 minutes of film…then tied down the camera, asked Buster if he was ready and when he was told Yes, flipped on the power and stood back with the rest of us to watch a symphony of classic pantomime. It was spell-binding.
No one spoke. No one moved. No one looked away. At the eight minute mark Gert called out to Mr. Keaton. “One minute.”
Without missing a beat Buster worked up his finale and finished up his bravura performance. Stage One erupted in shouts and whistles and applause. For Donna Reed and some of our older crew members there were some tears as well.
A Hollywood Giant had passed our way.

TINY LITTLE THINGS
Netflix is at it again...sexualizing teenagers who pursue ballet and compete for coveted attention within a corrupt school of dance.
Sex and Fame.
Fame and Sex.
Who are the men and women engaged in this dangerous mockery of childhood?
Who are the cretins that gave the green light to this project? Hiring children to portray exploited children is a loathsome practice. Shame on Netflix...again.

The Child-S*xualizing ‘Cuties’ Movie On Netflix Is Even Worse Than We Thought -- Matt Walsh https://www.facebook.com/MattWalshBlog/videos/898629784000069/
One Year Ago …I was in St. Joseph’s Hospital, right across the street from Disney Studio. My heart was acting up and my Labor Day was ruined. It took quite awhile to lower my heart rate from a galloping 150 bpm to something more acceptable for a man my age. One thing for sure, I have the best looking cardiologist in the country. Even when she diagnosed my condition as heart failure my son, Ethan, had a significant reaction to Dr. Mehrinfar-Zadeh’s appearance. “Wow.” Ahh, a lifetime of beautiful women. The various procedures went as they predicted and here we are, a year later and so far I’ve battled the health demons to a draw. Actually, I’m slightly ahead in that I never missed a day in sending out Birthday greetings to my Facebook friends. I’m pretty sure you get extra points for consistency. Love and Labor Day hugs to all…Paul Petersen
Please! Pay attention to this. How can this happen?
Hope Johnny is doing better. Looks like he had a s*x change?🤪🤣😉
Keeping it simple is best. There are too many formats to keep track of everything.
The Silent Child Actress who spoke Volumes. Long before she was Diana Serra Cary (an adopted name) she was Baby Peggy. A four-year-old millionaire. Yesterday, her death was announced. Long after Baby Peggy came the Golden Era of television. I made my own starts and stops on the child acting road ("Combat!" "The Twilight Zone," etc.), for some eight years. Long after the end of that career I met with Diana, whom I interviewed my early 1980s book on child actors: Pretty Babies: An Insider's Look at the World of The Hollywood Child Star. Then, she was running a UC campus bookstore. What is it about ex-child actors and books? Perhaps the enduring nature of books. Or that looks and age don't make or break you. Or that the joy and recognition you gain may be more internal than externally recognized. Diana Serra Cary inspired me. She weathered early fame and loss, then created a whole new identity, name, and life. And she was an outspoken advocate for child actors. She never forgot. She was a silent film star who spoke volumes. ---Andrea Plate, formerly child actress Andrea Darvi
Starting a conversation. TEAM KIDS..here we go. TEAM KIDS, are the thousands of moms, dads, advocates, bloggers, who followed this show from the beginning and sent up the red flags, leading to the birth of a child labor law in Pennsylvania, to include minors in reality TV. I've worked beside AMC since 2002, as a mom, an advocate, parent adviser for the SAG Young Performer's Committee, had a child in the industry for a very short time, realizing this was no place for children, concerned about the absence of child labor regulations. Many concerns are being raised reality TV and especially the children we embraced many years ago, then just infants, toddlers and every private moment of their life documented and edited by a reality TV production company. Minors cannot provide informed consent. They cannot tell a camera crew to go home when a parent has signed a contract, allowing them to film! Scary thought, isn't it! I'd like to start a conversation once again, on behalf of many who have asked and are very concerned. Please share your thoughts. There is a lot to be looked into, still. But we cannot and will not ever turn our backs on this family and all other minors who are working in other states with no child labor laws at all for reality TV. Please remember that there minors in entertainment are EXEMPT from the federal child labor standards since 1938. The federal gov't has excluded them from all federal child labor protections. Jon Gosselin is the ONLY parent ever, ever, to come forward on camera and work with the legislative reps in PA and address work permits and child labor regulations. He no longer has to remain quiet, the gag order lifted. He has a letter from the Department of Labor (show in this interview). The Court made a decision that it was not in the best interest of the children to allow filming! Allegedly, which we need to press further, filming continued anyway! Minors cannot provide informed consent, which means the parents/legal guardian is signing contracts on their behalf and making their own informed decisions. What we do know, from experience and continued negative headlines is that their decisions continue to exploit and place the child's welfare in danger. I cannot imagine growing up with cameras mounted on the walls of my home, documenting every move and shared with the world..including twitter and social media accounts and having NO SAY to it. How can a child truly act "normal" when there is a camera crew in front of them? It becomes "their norm"...scary! To have millions of strangers looking at my photos and commenting on them, deciding if I was a "brat" or obnoxious or needed to be disciplined and watching me on the potty and coming with me on vacation. Imagine, your child's images, from on the potty training, getting undressed, cameras in bedrooms and following them in every private moment in their own private home, now "owned" and shared and commented on by millions of strangers, including pe*****les. Strangers have made Youtube videos, including men, obsessed with the children! Judgments have been made about their personality, their looks, their attitude and how they would raise them, calling the kids all kinds of names! This MUST STOP! Reality TV is no place for children. The labor department, in every state I have contact, state they cannot view private contracts between producer and parent. Then how the does anyone know what is truly going on? If, what Jon is saying is correct and no work permits were issued but filming continued, then this is wrong. Pennsylvania has a child labor law on the books for minors in entertainment that clearly state that work permits are required. I want to say in advance, THANK YOU, for the bloggers, for the TEAM KIDS supporters who first brought this show to our attention and the public's attention. That there are cameras established in the home of infants, toddlers, filming the most private moments of the kids. All of you have your name attached to the child labor law in Pennsylvania. Cannot thank you enough for being the eyes and ears and watching out for the kids, keeping everyone informed. There absolutely was a set of regulatory Codes on the books at that time, which basically define the child labor law. It clearly stated that the kids should have been deemed "employed" if any adult in the production was receiving remuneration. I will post that link if you'd like to see it. YES, this was in place TLC, before you started filming and they were notified of this. The kids have trust funds in place for all of the times they were not paid, accordingly..but this doesn't help with their childhood documented by Hollywood and edited for ratings purposes, including a terrible divorce situation.T
Everyone in the group who hasn't done so already, needs to check out "The Donna Reed Show: A Pictorial Memoir." It's written by a guy you might know :) Don't stop with merely reading this great book and looking at the photos. Post a review on Amazon. Right now, there is only one (posted by me). As a writer, I know that good reviews sell books, so if you want to help out, write a nice review. The book more than deserves it.
