Daaang. The roads these days are as dry as a mouth full of cinnamon on Black Sunday of the dust bowl in 1935! Look at all that silt spittin' out the back! We have a day or two of moisture on tap between now and September 20, but we can't guarantee it'll be enough to calm things down. Your best bet is to run one or two sizes bigger than what you run for everyday riding, unless you usually ride 47c, then your probably solid 👊 . Oh, and if you haven't checked your email in the last 12 hours, courses and gpx files are up on the website for your downloading pleasure 🤓. You know where that link is!

Y'all. You ONLY have this weekend left to sign up for the 2020 Robidoux Quick & Dirty on September 20! Sure, you technically have Monday too, but when's the last time a Monday went according to plan? 🤨 Remember we have our covid protocol in place, everyone is getting a custom RQD bandanna 😷, no mass start, and everything is outside. Aaaand, we're raffling an @iamspecialized Diverge Comp Carbon after the race! We'll make something out of 2020 yet!

Still blowing out smoke and dust 🤧 from riding with Ashton Lambie and Christina Birch this morning! Everybody start dancing for rain, okay? A few showers on deck before September 20 to firm up the roads for race day (and 8 days left to register 😉), but our friends across the Western U.S. need it much more than we do. Sending out as many positive vibes as we can to everyone and every place affected by the fires!

Howdy friendos! We've had a few folks ask if we still have spots available for this year's RQD on September 20. The answer is yes! We have a couple handfuls of spots open. No bull! Remember: covid protocol in place, 100% outside, and no mass start. If you have friends looking for an event to round out the season, tag 'em below! Last day to register is August 31st!

Good news, camping graveleurs! We just heard from the city that Robidoux RV Park is accepting tent campers again! It's a super affordable option with hot showers (and regular temperature bathrooms) and plenty of space to stretch the legs. Plus, it literally borders the RQD venue! You can reserve a slot for the race weekend by calling 308-436-2046 during regular business hours!

Scotts Bluff National Monument

Curious about the history of some of the RQD terrain? Check out this video by our very own Scotts Bluff National Monument! The 100 mile route takes us over both Robidoux and Mitchell Passes, while the 65 descends Robidoux and the 25 returns via Mitchell Pass. Hopefully neither will break your wagon...

Nearly all visitors to Scotts Bluff National Monument recognize Mitchell Pass as the route through which emigrants on the Oregon Trail and California Trail passed. However, before 1851, emigrants would have passed through what we now call Robidoux Pass. To learn more about the pass and the family after which it's named, check out this short video. #MonumentMonday

07/21/2020

To our RQD family,

As we all know, this year is different in a lot of ways. In the context of the Robidoux Quick & Dirty, COVID-19 is the greatest threat to the way we’ve done things in the past. With that in mind, THANK YOU for your patience as we’ve had to postpone and now make adjustments to the event. While pushing the event date to September 20th wasn’t a fun decision to make, the extra time that afforded us all has allowed us to research and educate ourselves on the most effective and safe way to adjust to current conditions. A little patience and understanding from every one of us over the race weekend will go a long way in keeping everyone healthy while still having a great experience with the gravel community at RQD! Below, we’ve outlined our plans and COVID-related adjustments to the RQD. It’s important to note that the steps outlined here combined with the outdoor and physically distanced nature of the RQD greatly reduce the risk of COVID transmission, but that the risk is never zero. It’s up to each of us to do what’s necessary to protect both ourselves and the community as a whole. Tonight at 6:30 P.M. Mountain Time, Matt and Aaron will be holding a live Q&A session here on Facebook to address any questions you all may have about our plans.

We also need to remember that Robidoux Quick & Dirty is not an isolated event. If you’re coming from out of town, you’ll likely visit gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, etc. on your journey. Please keep both our community and the communities you pass through in mind while you travel. Given the evolved understanding of COVID transmission, wearing a facial covering while in the presence of others is perhaps the single most important thing we can all do for each other. The communities of Scottsbluff and Gering are excited to host you all, and we humbly ask that you wear a facial covering while patronizing our retailers, restaurants, and hotels. In the case of Five Rocks Amphitheater, masks will be mandatory for packet pick up, the start/finish area if you aren’t moving on your bike, and at the post-race festivities if you are near others. You’ll receive a custom RQD bandanna in your swag bag that will easily tie around your neck and is light enough to wear while riding. Please consider pulling this up over your face as you roll into aid stations.

Below is an outline of our plan as it’s relevant to you, the rider and your guests. These protocols have been developed in conjunction with the Panhandle Public Health District and guidelines from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. These plans are subject to change as evolving guidelines might require. While the bullets below highlight the important parts of this plan, there are many more parts of this plan that are not mentioned here; feel free to ask us questions if you feel they’re relevant!

Packet Pick Up: Saturday, September 19th 2-7pm @ Five Rocks Amphitheater (all outdoors)

-Waivers will be emailed to all riders the week prior to the race. Please print and sign this waiver and bring it with you to packet pick up. Visually present your signed waiver and verbally check in with an RQD volunteer. Volunteers will be easy to spot and will happily guide you through the process. Once checked in you’ll place your waiver in one of several available collection boxes on site. This process helps us eliminate the funnel effect of signing waivers at the event. It’s also a way to accomplish waiver collection and check in in a way that is physically distant with no contact!

-After your waiver is in you’ll be directed to one of three areas on the lawn to pick up your pre-packed swag bag. If you’ve purchased a jersey, these will be clearly labelled with names and spread out in the pavilion area.

Race Day: September 20, 7 a.m. @ Five Rocks Amphitheater (all outdoors)

-First, if your friends or family are planning to waive you off at the start line, please have them wear a facial covering of some sort and do their best to physically distance themselves from other families. This part of the day has the potential to see the largest number of folks at Five Rocks, so it’s very important that we all follow the guidelines at this point.

-Start line procedure: We will have a brief riders’ meeting in front of the stage just before the starting time of each distance. We’re still working with our timing company to finalize the start order, but at the very least, we will have age group waves. Ideally, we will be able to designate a window of time for each distance to start in which each rider can ride across the start line and begin the race at their leisure. Please consider wearing a facial covering until any groups have a chance to spread out. We will communicate the official start line procedure at a date when it is finalized.

-Aid stations: Please wear your mask or bandanna at aid stations! Each aid station will be staffed by masked and gloved volunteers. No communal food will be available. Instead, we’ll have individually wrapped bars, whole bananas, and things of that nature available. While there will inevitably be more waste this year, we’re doing our best to partner with companies who use recyclable packaging and we will have waste receptacles at each station. Regarding hydration, communal coolers will not be used. Rather, there will be a hydration table where you’ll be able to place your open bottle on the water side or the Skratch side and it will be filled with a pitcher accordingly by a volunteer. This process is physically distant without any contact.

-Finish line/Awards: Please wear your mask while hanging out after the race at Five Rocks while up and moving around folks you don’t live with! Awards will be scheduled shortly after the finishers come across the line for each distance. We’ll have live music and plenty of space to spread out and play yard games and chat about all the highs and lows of the day’s accomplishment!

Well, here we are. Today was supposed to be THE day. It would have been 53° at the start and not a cloud in the sky. The inch or so of rain we received yesterday afternoon would have meant hero groad conditions from start to finish!
.
While it's easy to wallow in what could have been, we're happy our September 20th date is still on the books and we remain confident in our ability to host you all in a reasonably safe way. Our safety measures combined with a little love and understanding from each and every one of us will go a heckuva long way! Can't wait to see you all!

A couple Wednesday night updates from the RQD crew:

-As of today, we're still on for September 20. We're working with our county health department to develop a contingency plan around all of our race-related activities to make them as safe and sanitary as possible and to fall well within any covid-related guidelines. We'll publish the plan for everyone to review once it's finalized.

-We were alerted this morning that the registration page was down. As far as we could tell, it was only down for about 24 hours. If you tried to register in that time, know the page is back up and functioning and we still have spots left. We'll be holding firm on our 500 rider cap due to covid-related venue restrictions.

-Check in on Monday for a fun project we've been working on aimed at commemorating the original 2020 RQD race weekend!

One positive coming out of having to move our race date is that we've once again been able to partner with Monument Inn & Suites for lodging options! They've been gracious enough to hold a block of discounted rooms for that third weekend in September for RQD riders. Give them a ring or use the code "gravelgrinder" if booking on their website! They're located roughly a mile down the road from the venue and are close to coffee and restaurants downtown!

Race Day: September 20

To our RQD family,

The time has come for us to officially postpone the 2020 edition of Robidoux Quick & Dirty in light of current global conditions. The new date is Sunday, September 20. Please find key information and dates below. The updated schedule will be posted on the website along with route info in the coming days.

Direct health measures and stay at home orders are being extended and there are no signs that it will be considered safe to have large gatherings in the near future. While there is a chance that things will be better in June, we can’t risk waiting to find out and forcing you all to change plans at the last minute. We hope we’re giving everyone enough time to adjust and adapt by making this announcement earlier rather than later.

We realize that this date may not work for everyone. As such, we’re offering 50% refunds of race entries to anyone who cannot make this date. We can also facilitate entry transfers but cannot adjust distances (60 mile racers can transfer a 60 mile entry, but not bump up to 100). June 30 will be the last day to request a refund or transfer by email (process below). We understand this might not be the ideal scenario, but we’ve already made multiple financial commitments to our vendors for race supplies, venue fees, etc. associated with the race. We’re hopeful you can sympathize with our predicament. Jerseys are non-refundable and will be mailed to anyone who is unable to pick them up on race day.

While this isn’t a fun announcement to make, there are some upsides. September temps and lack of precipitation means high probability of a temperate, dry race! Lodging options for this weekend should be wide open. There are plenty of fun things to do with the family that weekend including group rides, the 18th Street Farmers’ Market on Saturday, and the harvest festival at Legacy of the Plains Museum! We might even be working on some extra fun activities ourselves!

Lastly, knowing a lot of early season events have cancelled, we’re opening another 100 entries for folks who have had part of their season stolen by COVID-19, which lifts the entry cap to 500 riders between all distances.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on race day—just a little later in the year than we planned! As always, feel free to send questions our way via Facebook, Instagram, or [email protected].

Key dates:

June 30: last day to request 50% refund or a transfer

July 30: Last day to order jersey

August 30: Last day to register if entries are available

September 20, 2020: Race day

Refund or transfer process:

Refund—email [email protected] with “REFUND” as the subject. Please include your entry confirmation number. Expect refunds to be processed within 48 hours.

Transfer—email [email protected] with “TRANSFER” as the subject. Please cc the person we’re transferring to and include your entry confirmation number. NEW RACER please reply all with the following: first and last name, birth date, phone number, address, gender. These will be processed as quickly as possible if all information is included.

Respectfully,

Matt and Aaron
