Congratulations to Mass Communications & Media Studies major Chaz Giles on winning first place at the 2018 College Broadcasters, Inc., Visual Media Festival in Seattle with his short film, “Amore Mio Per La Cena,” starring Hannah Gallant and Jaquin Derrick.

Chaz is also a music minor at Lander - come hear his nationally acclaimed tenor voice on Sunday, December 2 at 4 pm for his Senior Recital in the Cultural Center Auditorium.

It wasn't quite enough for Chaz Giles to win twice for the same entry in Lander University’s 2018 spring Film Festival. This autumn, the Lander senior took first place again for his short film “Amore Mio Per La Cena” in the first annual College Broadcasters, Inc., Visual Media Festival in Seattle, Washington.

In Spring 2018, Chaz advanced through the state, regional, and video rounds of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (#NATS) Student Auditions, and traveled to Las Vegas to compete in nationals, ranking in the top 14 male #musicaltheatre #singers in his age range.

In light of the new forecasts and possible path of Hurricane Florence, all classes after 5 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 13) are cancelled. Additionally, all classes for tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 14) are cancelled. While classes are cancelled, offices will be open tomorrow on a normal schedule for employees.

An update regarding Monday’s schedule will be communicated to campus by Saturday evening.

Come experience a piano recital performed by Mengdi Li, a doctoral candidate in Piano Performance at the University of South Carolina, in Lander University's Cultural Center Auditorium.

Li is an active chamber musician and collaborative pianist, and has been the accompanist for the University of South Carolina Wind Ensemble since 2015. Li is also the winner of the 2017 South Carolina Music Teachers National Association - Young Artist Piano Competition.

The faculty, staff, and students in the College of Arts & Humanities invite you to attend our upcoming events.

The Department of Music will present several large ensemble performances, including the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and University Singers, as well as a Chamber Strings concert, solo vocalists, faculty performances, and piano concerts. Lander's Visual Art Department has several exhibits scheduled in the Monsanto Art Gallery, with more to be added later in the semester, and the Department of Mass Communications & Media Studies will present their annual film festival in the spring semester.

All events listed are open to the public, free to attend, and FALS approved for Lander students.

Congratulations to Dr. Lloyd Willis, Associate Professor of English, for being appointed as the director of Lander University's new Center for Online and Innovative Learning.

This summer Lander University took a big step toward the future of learning by creating a new Center for Online and Innovative Learning.

The new center, under the direction of Associate Professor of English Dr. Lloyd Willis, will serve to promote all educational pursuits that fall outside conventional delivery, including e-learning, weekend programs, evening programs, and faculty training for online teaching.

Congratulations to Mass Communications & Media Studies major Chaz Giles for advancing to the next round of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) student auditions!

Congrats to Lander University student Chaz Giles, who has been chosen to compete in the video round of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Student Auditions.

The video round is a preliminary to the national semifinals!

Congratulations also to Taylor Baxley, of Andrews, and Emilee Love, of Columbia, who are pursuing K-12 teacher certification in music with a choral emphasis. They competed in the Second Year College/Independent Studio Classical Women’s division.

Lander University will host Spectrum's first Benefit Drag Show next Wednesday, March 28 at 7:30 pm in the Cultural Center Auditorium.

Proceeds from the event will support local and national charities, including the Greenwood Food Bank, and the students have worked hard to put this entertaining event together for the Greenwood community.

Admission:
$5 for public admission
$1 or one canned good for student admission
$2 or two canned goods for faculty/staff admission

For members of Spectrum, it’s been their dream to host a drag show on Lander University’s campus since the student organization was founded in 2008, and now, it’s finally coming true.

Visit the Monsanto Art Gallery, located in Lander's Cultural Center, to view Jackson Martin's exhibit "Work Ethic".

This exhibit will be displayed until April 13th. An open reception will be held on March 15th from 5-7 pm, with an Artist Talk at 6 pm.

Visual artist and professor Jackson Martin said his work takes on an interdisciplinary approach — combining sculpture, installation and photography.

You can now pre-register for our 2WK short film competition as part of the 9th annual Lander University Film Festival.
