The Music Department's very own handsome devil, Dr. Tony Lenti, has retired. Lila Noonkester, department chair, shares this message:

In his 50 years of teaching and service, Dr. Lenti has witnessed the revitalization of Lander College as it became state-assisted in 1973 and as it was declared a university in 1992. Dr. Lenti played an active role when Lander’s Department of Music saw fit in 1997 to become fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

Anthony Lenti has been on the music faculty at Lander since 1970. In an American society where more mature generations are often discarded in cavalier fashion by professional newcomers who lack the experience and foresight to understand the value of those who have come before them, I am here to proclaim that we, the Lander University music faculty, value experience and tradition. Should the conversation turn to a particular musical convention of the 17th or 18th centuries or to the original blueprints of Lander’s Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center erected in 1987, we readily call upon our very own historian. We consistently rely upon Dr. Lenti and his infinite knowledge about all things musical, all things Lander, and, yes, about all things life.

There is no time like the present to honor a man who is the consummate performer, scholar, teacher, and servant. We will always look up to you. We will always admire you. We will always be pleased to call you colleague and friend.

Congratulations to our promoted faculty in the Music Department!

Meet Spanish and Psychology Spring 2020 graduate Mekensie Therrien, and join us in honoring her! #seniorspotlightsaturday

"During my years at Lander, I challenged myself to take as much from my college experience as possible. I majored in both Psychology and Spanish, minored in therapeutic horsemanship, and earned an Honors College medal. I managed to graduate with a 4.0, and earned the Golden L award. I am proud of my accomplishments, but am also humbled by the support I received and the opportunities to succeed that were awarded to me. I count myself extremely blessed and am thankful that God enables me to achieve my dreams with a network of loving people who encourage me along the way...

Being a member of the Honors College gave me more life experience than I ever imagined, including my first true experiences of travel. In the Fall of 2016, the New York trip gave me a hunger for adventure and discovery. Thanks to scholarships and a tremendous amount of help and guidance from Dr. Mently and Dr. Craton, in the Spring of 2018, I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, at Tandem Escuela Internacional, where I dedicated a semester to learning Spanish. I was as humbled as I was thrilled to become a world traveler, especially before my 20th birthday. Before becoming a Lander student, I never thought that would be possible for me. This experience gave life to my Spanish major...

I am so thankful to the professors who enriched my education so well, who not only filled me with their knowledge, but also challenged me to think for myself, uplifted me during difficult times, invited me into their homes, and mentored me in both academic and practical endeavors. I am thankful to Lander for introducing me to my husband and some of my dearest friends. I am thankful to God for making a way for me, when I believed my background would prevent me from being able to be where I am today."

We are so proud of you, Mekensie! #landercommunity #landerefl #landerseniorspotlight
