ICNS Conference

ICNS Conference ICNS 2020 September 9-11, 2020 Westin Washington Dulles Airport Hotel Herndon, Virginia

The Integrated Communications Navigation and Surveillance (ICNS) Conference addresses long-term research and development as well as current implementation of integrated CNS technologies needed to enable programs that include but are not limited to NextGen and SESAR. The conference is focused on providing an understanding of domestic and international CNS/ATM programs, implementation strategies, standards development, research, and ICNS technologies. As we continue the second decade of ICNS, we focus on the relationship between next generation air traffic management and the enabling communications, navigation and surveillance infrastructure that will build the bridge between CNS and ATM.

Welcome to ICNS 2019!

This is the 19th year of the Integrated Communication, Navigation and Surveillance technologies (ICNS) Conference. What started in 2001 by NASA Glenn Research Center as a primarily U.S.-focused CNS workshop has now become the key global annual event, addressing worldwide long-term CNS research and developments, as well as implementation of conventional and integrated CNS technologies.

The 2019 conference theme, “Enabling Future Flight through Evolving Integrated CNS Technologies,” was chosen to emphasize the increasing maturity of the concept of integrated technologies, which are now being increasingly deployed in aviation. Very recently, on March 26, the very first flight test of the L-Band Digital Aviation Communication System, better known as LDACS, took place.

ICNS Plenary Day 1: Global Harmonization

The April 9, 2019, plenary will provide regional updates on major modernization programs (NEXTGEN, SESAR, CARATS) around the world.

The plenary will also focus on the results of ICAO’s 13th Air Navigation Conference “From Development to Implementation,” which encompassed implementation of operational improvements, such as technology, operational concepts, and road maps; and provided an opportunity for Member States and aviation stakeholders to work on global strategies for safety and air navigation planning, development and implementation, and to set priorities for the coming years.

The plenary will again be moderated by the FAA’s Steve Bradford (NextGen Chief Scientist) and SESAR’s Michael Standar (SESAR Joint Undertaking, Chief Strategies & External Affairs).
