Worship

At Overisel Reformed Church, we strive to follow Christ's example in our lives. We do this by growing in our knowledge of him through worship and times of learning. We also try to build community with others as we live out the principals we are learning. And we attempt to give of ourselves, just as God has given to us. This begins with our congregation gathering to worship and learn on Sunday mornings.

9:30 - 10:40 Morning Worship

The principal items of worship include proclamation of the Word through sermon, scripture reading, prayers and congregational singing. Hymns are primary, but we also use many “praise and worship” songs. Our recently refurbished pipe organ is the central instrument. The piano is often used either in addition to the organ or by itself. Occasionally guitars and percussion are also used. Many times lay involvement is included through scripture readings, drama, special music, prayer, etc. People are quite willing to participate and this has become meaningful to us as a congregation. The pastor plans the service, but lay people are available to assist and organize in many ways when called on. One of two choirs provides music for worship services at ORC. The Celebration Choir (adults) leads in worship on many Sundays. The Joyful Sounds Choir (grades 2-5) sing every six weeks. Pre-school age children through kindergarten are dismissed from the service around 10:00 for their own worship at Promise Land which continues on through the morning until 11:45, September through May. End of service-11:15 am Sunday School – September through May
5:00-6:00 pm Evening Worship (2 Services)

The Sanctuary Service is similar to the morning service but is more informal. Most often the pastor solicits prayer requests of praise and petition from the congregation before the Prayer of Intercession. The people readily share. The Revolution Service meets in the Family Life Center and has contemporary worship, Biblical Lessons, and small group discussions. There are small groups for every age level from Preschool through adults. Currently, there is no nursery due to Covid-19. Service and Evangelism

We seek to reach out to our community, our nation, and our world. To do this, Overisel Reformed Church is involved in the following:

Wednesday Night Fall Program Kick-off (Community invited)
Local food pantry
*Release time classes at local elementary school
Moms in Prayer
**Love, INC. (Love in the Name of Christ)
CROP Walk involvement
Women’s Quilting Ministry
Work Group Projects (various places in USA & Overseas)

Encouragement and support of individuals to participate in service opportunities, such as summer camp counselors, short-term mission opportunities, etc.

*Overisel Reformed Church supports an outreach program called “Released Time” through Sandyview Elementary School. Released Time is a program in which parents may voluntarily permit their child(ren) to be “released” from class time during the school day for religious instruction. Participating children come to the church for approximately one hour for a Bible lesson, singing, and a time of prayer. Released Time is organized by parents of Sandyview children and, in the recent past, has been led by either the senior or associate pastor of ORC. A member of ORC, a former teacher from Sandyview, leads Released Time.

**Love in the Name of Christ is a faith-based and prayer-based ministry of outreach. It is a partnership with local community churches to help their members show God’s love in serving individuals and families with unmet needs. Other Programs

R.C.W.M. (Reformed Church Women’s Ministries) meets every month, September through May. Speakers, craft nights, retreats, and other special events are planned to promote Christian fellowship for all women of ORC. There is a morning Bible study group, which meets once a month on Tuesdays, an afternoon and an evening group, which also meets once a month. Fellowship Plus (adults) meets four times a year for various activities. Prayer Groups meet at various times and for set purposes.

HAYM • Hamilton Area Youth Ministries received some requests in the last week from a number of parents of the graduating seniors to reconsider moving the Baccalaureate back to an indoors ceremony at a local church. This is the response from our area youth leaders and we appreciate their willingness to prayerfully consider and respond with grace as well as to do what they believe is best under the circumstances that continue in our area.

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the Hamilton Area Youth Ministries team and supporting churches, we would like to thank you for sharing your desire for having an in-person Baccalaureate service. After prayerful consideration and conversation on this matter, the HAYM team decided that the drive thru Baccalaureate is the best option and the most appropriate way of moving forward with full inclusion for the class of 2021.

Here are the rationale why we are staying with our original decision.

1. It supports the hope of Hamilton Community Schools to do what they can to host graduation as shared in Principal Banfield's recent email.

2. It takes into consideration the full scope of all the opinions that were expressed to our group and shared within our church leadership teams.

3. It makes sure we have an opportunity to host the most inclusive event for all graduates and families while taking into consideration the health guidelines of the State. We do not want to jeopardize our church worship communities, the graduation ceremony or ability of students to finish their sports seasons for the rest of the year.

We have respectfully received your opinions in this matter and along with you, we would have loved to host an in person Baccalaureate. However, still being in the midst of this pandemic and having to do the best for our churches, the school and the community at large, we stand by our decision to have the Baccalaureate as a drive thru event.

We hope to see you at the Baccalaureate in the parking lot of Cultivate on May 27th from 4:45 to 5:45 that evening. If there is a change due to the weather, we will host the event prior to the new graduation date and time.

Blessings, The HAYM Team

Easter is the time we remember what Christ did for us...sent his Son Jesus to die on a cross to forgive us of our sins and he rose from death on the third day. If you believe this truth, you will one day be with Him in Glory and your loved ones who also believed! The message yesterday came from 1 Corinthians 15:3-8. Thank you Pastor Mike for sharing this wonderful news of Jesus' death and resurrection!

"3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me."

The ORC family is given the opportunity each Easter to purchase flowers in memory/honor of a loved one. The flowers are used to decorate the front of church. They are always beautiful!
