Thank you to Skip James, Bethel's Director or traditional music, for this preview of the music at the 8am service tomorrow:
This Sunday, violinist Sarah Bertsch takes us back in time to the 18th century, with a sonata by George Frideric Handel in g-minor. The movements are: Larghetto, Allegro, Adagio, and Allegro. The last movement is a Gigue. We’ll play the first two early in the service, and the others at the Offering time. I wish I had a harpsichord at Bethel to do justice to the basso continuo part, which is improvised on the spot, but the piano will suffice this week. Don’t miss it live on WEVR FM 106.3, or livestreamed on Bethel's website, page and YouTube Channel.

Pastor John's message tomorrow will focus on how In these polarizing and divisive times, Sunday's scripture and message remind us of Jesus' emphasis and directive on the need for unity. May you not only hear this message, but may you also help live it as the church of Jesus Christ.

Thank you to Bethel's Traditional Music Director, Skip James for this preview of music for the 8am service on Sunday morning:
We will get another chance to hear baritone Mark Billy sing. He will perform "Zueignung" by Richard Strauss, with me at the piano. The title means "Devotion" and each verse ends with "habe dank," be thankful. Sung in German, the music will still transport you.

Thank you to Skip James, Bethel's Director of traditional music, for this preview of the music at the 8am service tomorrow:
Megan Wagner will sing "Pie Jesu" from the Fauré Requiem on Sunday morning this week at 8am. Celebrating our saints, both alive and in heaven, is something we should do more often than once or twice a year. Don't miss the catchy hymn after Pastor Ladd's sermon about who the saints are. The last line of each verse is: "and I want to be one too." I heard it for the first time at a memorial service for Martha Kaemmer. It's a winner!
The 8am service is broadcast over WEVR FM (106.3), and livestreamed on Bethel's website, page and YouTube channel.

Pine Ridge/Wolf Creek School supplies delivered 10/16/2020. Principle Darrel “Brownie” Eagle Bull (glasses) says sincere thank you to Bethel members for thinking of them and for the school supplies. These supplies encourage the teachers and staff to teach and care for the students knowing others care about them too! We could not enter the reservation because of COVID and met in White Clay Nebraska Friday afternoon to load onto a truck. Thank you to our generous members, we had a combination of 40 boxes and bags of backpacks, school supplies, hand sanitizers and quilts! Thank you Cindy and Renée Nelson for packing and sorting everything !! Way to go Bethel members!!

Movie night was fun. Thank you.
Are you Bored? While you’re sheltering in place, you should give your creativity a chance to shine! Have you ever written some poetry? Had a great idea for a hymn text? Considered writing lyrics for a play? I’m looking to set texts to music that reflect your emotions during the pandemic, feelings that are probably common to us all. How do you relate to God at this time? Most of the great Lutheran hymns from the 16th century were penned during outbreaks of Bubonic Plague which devastated Europe at that time. Many of the Great Revival hymns from the 18th century were written when Cholera epidemics were widespread both here in America, and in England. Some of the most well-known hymns by American authors came from the period during and after the Civil War. We are now in the midst of such an epic event, and with time on your hands, perhaps a few of you will decide to try your hand at composing a song lyric. I’ll be happy to help with details of rhyme, accent, and meter, but YOU come up with the metaphors and images that will make your text come alive for readers. When the text meets all the necessary requirements for song, I will try to find a melody and harmony that reflects your intention, and can be sung by all of us. Blessings, Skip James, Traditional Music Director

In loving memory of our Lutheran Hot dish night. Pictures of hot dish to follow. It’s in the oven.
Beautiful service! Appreciate what you are doing! It took me awhile to find the service. Now I know to look under videos! I’m hoping the live streaming on Wednesday night will be in the same spot.
Thank you for the fine 8:00 service this morning. Found it much more fulfilling than I expected. Will dig out the hymnal next time to get more 'into' it.
