Tom Smith Returns!

And you can get your weekend badge for InConJunction for just $35 through February 14!

InConJunction 40 is pleased to announce our Musical Toastmaster, Tom Smith! Get your badge to come see him July 3-5! You still have 5 hours to get your badge at $35.

For thirty-five years — back to the beginning of Reagan’s second term — Tom Smith has been amusing, delighting, and just plain weirding out fandom with his energetic combination of folk-rock comedy, dark fantasy, and stupefying puns. One of the only artists to appear on both NPR’s Sound and Spirit and The Doctor Demento Show, Tom has recorded over two dozen albums, and is a founding member of The Funny Music Project (thefump.com). His shows are audience participation and his hugs are great, so check out his music at tomsmith.bandcamp.com — or, better yet, come on down and live the myth of Smith!

Truck Carrying Gaming Dice Spills Onto Highway, Rolls A Perfect 756,000

"The truck was undamaged, having made its saving throw."

On Friday, September 13, a truck bound for the Georgia-based tabletop and video game company Trivium Studios took a turn too sharply, spilling 216,000 gaming dice onto Interstate 75 in Atlanta in what could be the biggest unintentional dice roll ever.

The Enterprise is Insanely Huge

The Enterprise D is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the 10-Forward, but that's just peanuts to NCC-1701D.

We all know the Enterprise-D is big, but how big IS it? Well, turns out it's massive. Insanely huge, in fact. Brought to you by 150 amazing patrons on Patreo...

30 Very Good Sci-Fi Dogs

Now that all the hype surrounding Captain Marvel’s top scene-stealer, Goose the cat (or “cat,” if you will), has died down a little, it’s high time we shifted our adoring attentions over to the dogs of science fiction. The genre has produced many, many very good puppers over the years, inclu...

I know this isn't science fiction related but we need to find my daughter. Please allow this and share.
Is Gen Con very crowded on Thursday?
Throwing back to my association with InCnJunction in it's first twenty years I can't help but think what kind of program would here I'm going to throw out a couple of ideas that ConComs might consider. And by the way, let me make it clear that I am not running for ConChair any time in the future. I'm 69 years old and I'm not even sure that my dues are current. The theme is “Monsters”. If you download the PBS App or lookup PBS online you will find among the Featured Video a series of pod casts by Dr. Emily Zarka, called Monstrum. (a link to Godzilla and Mothra will lead you to all to others) In these short videos she explores and explains the history and very real origins of many of the great monsters of literature, Vampires, krackens, white walkers, and headless horsemen are all discussed in dead seriousness. She references Victor Hugo, Jules Verne, May Shelly, Octavia Butler, and of course, George R. R. Martin, and others, as well as relevant science. These are short. Watch them. Zarka is a fascinating speaker. She talks about Martin in her discussions of white walkers and dragons which figure largely in Game of Throwns. So, for the ideal monsters themed con, George R. R. Martin and Dr. Emily Zarka, fiction and reality. Another idea for another con involves a space exploration theme. Critical to that is the history of it. I just finished reading “Failure is Not an Option” by Gene Kranz. Kranz worked in NASA Mission Control starting with the beginning of the Mercury Program and was Flight Director for Apollo. In the movie “Apollo 13” he is played by Ed Harris wearing his famous vest and speaking the famous phrase. “Failure is Not an Option” is a personal journey and Kranz offers a perspective that we usually aren't exposed to. Since his retirement in 1994 he has spoken around the country to businesses and civic groups. He might be too expensive for us but it would be worthwhile to find out. David Henninger
Bestselling SF author Kat Falls (Dark Life, Inhuman) will be my guest on this Sunday's Lou Harry Gets Real podcast. We tape in front of a live audience at the Aristocrat. I have two comp tickets to give away to a Circle of Janus member. Just email [email protected] and one will be randomly selected on Friday. More ticket and show info here:

With very heavy hearts we here at CoJ have to inform the club that Dillan David Dick passed away yesterday after an intense battle with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. He will be missed. We will pass on details that Anjala and family have to give when she has them to give. Meanwhile, if you have a spare $5 or $20, please consider donating to the gofundme for Dill.
