Belnap Family Christmas Light Show Iona, Idaho
Good Evening! We regret to inform you that the City of Iona had a meeting earlier in the year on May 19th and came to the conclusion that our Light Show is a public nuisance after they received one complaint from a neighbor across the street. They have sent a letter (see attached) to us and unfortunately our light show is a nuisance even with out discussing this with us and hearing only one side. Even though the City of Iona has outlined in their own definition of a public nuisance, “needs to have substantial number of persons”, in their letter to us they have said “they received a complaint from one of your neighbors”. We are terribly sorry to have to inform you of this! We have spent thousands of dollars unselfishly to give people a place to go and reflect on Christmas, families and the birth of our savior. During the meeting that took place with the City Council members on May 19th, you will hear our elected paid officials discuss our light show without talking to us after the emails from the neighbor across the street. As many know we will come out to your cars periodically and give out candy canes and even have us dressed in characters (frosty, grinch and Olaf) with our entire family. We have talked to many of you over the past several years as to why you come out and how much joy it brings to you and your families and several hundreds have made it a Christmas tradition. In some instances some have even shared that they have lost a loved one to suicide and this light show gives you some hope and peace. If you have the time listen to this meeting and you will hear our paid public officials mock our family, disrespect the light show and the mayor even stated “maybe the answer is to shut the damn thing down and get over it”, he also stated “he will drive through the light show and idle with his bright bulbs on and take his time and almost gets hit by you idiots”, you can listen to it for your self. There is plenty of comments discussed during this meeting that we could not believe were said by public officials in regards to a light show that generates zero money and a family gives up hundreds of hours of their time and money for the public. Here is the directions to listen to the meeting... cityofiona.org>lacerfiche(orange link on homepage)>city council council>FY2020>recording_city council work meeting_05192020). I wish we were making this up, however we’re not. If you have the time (it’s worth your time), our portion of the meeting is about 14 ish minutes into the meeting. I believe it’s about 15 minutes long with the “good ol boys/girls club talking” If you wish to let Mayor Dan Gubler know your thoughts he can be reached at [email protected] or 208-520-0558. If you listen to the meeting I can guarantee you may want to reach out to Mr. Gubler and express your thoughts to him how professional he and the City Council members and attorney acted during a public/professional meeting. We have lived in Iona over 40 years and to be talked about during this meeting like they did is unfortunate to say the least! After 12 years of putting on this light show for the public, we are sad to say that the light show will not be continuing unless the City changes their mind.
Thank You!!

We have had isolated incidents that have made it so we have to turn our show off tonight at 10pm.
We apologize to our families who obey and help make our show a tradition.
Due to the problems with isolated pickups gunning engines and others speeding through the 10 mph speed limit our neighbors are very concerned with the safety of our family and others. Please be considerate when leaving our light show.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR LIGHT SHOW A FAMILY TRADITION.
Some visitors stopped by tonight and are out visiting cars!
Friends, our neighbors have informed us that you are playing the music too loud. Please, help us by keeping your windows rolled up and your music down. This way we can all enjoy the spirit of the season.
We don't want law enforcement to have to step in.
Thanks for helping us!!

Working in beautiful weather for the first time in years!
We are busy going through our lights and fixing the ones that don't work because of rust. We hope to have gone through all our lights in the next couple of weeks. Then we will start putting lights etc. out.
We would like to thank everyone who came out and saw our show but also for those who respected our great neighbors by not parking in their driveways and making noise that would disturb them. THANK YOU!!
Just a reminder, Christmas Night will be the last night of our show. We will then begin to take everything down and put it away.

Thank you to the wonderful youngsters who sent us this card!!!
We loved it!!
We get asked all the time about giving us donations for the light show and my parents will never take a dime, but give you a candy cane on Christmas Eve! 🙂 However, in the case I’m asking this one small favor for my younger brother who is not aware of me posting this. If you can read the story you will see why I’m sharing this. Now if you feel inclined to donate we would absolutely appreciate it immensely!! If not no worries, please share and get the word out, that will help too. I’m not a huge fan of putting things like this on our page, but for this reason I feel it’s appropriate. We would love to raise enough money to get their situation resolved ASAP!! Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas from all of us!!!!
On November 19th, 2018, the pipe leading to the septic system of the Belnap home broke, making the system unable to drain and backing up into the house. While the damage done to the house was minimal and fixed quickly, the damage to the septic was much more severe. The system is outdated and to...

We just finished greasing the rest of the 12,000 blue led lights, that we got from Christmas Central. They all look great. They will allow us to have all three colors, (blue, white and multicolor) in all areas of our show this year. This will give us over 230,000 lights. 🙂
We just had a company, that we got our blue led lights from, step up and take care of a problem we had. We would like to tell Christmas Central, THANK YOU!!!! If anyone is looking for a great place to buy Christmas Lights, decorations or many other items that they carry, look no further than Christmas Central. They have great products and even better employees who will take care of you. They are honest and will treat you with respect. We highly recommend them to anyone!!!!🙂
We are very busy finishing up, greasing the new 10,000 lights we bought earlier (blue). This will be a great addition to our show. One of our neighbors has confided in me as to some new lights you will be seeing in his yard. We hope that everyone will truly feel the reason why we work so hard for any and everyone who comes to see the show. The commemoration of the birth of Christ is a very special time of the year. It is a special time for family, friends and neighbors. The Savior is in deed the reason for the season.
We will have at least one or two new songs/sequences to add with this year's Christmas Lightshow. Note: Update on August 15th, we will have at least (3) new songs/sequences). I am getting close to finalizing "IN SUMMER", from FROZEN. This song will compliment "Olaf", your favorite snowman, who will be back this year. His schedule will be similar to last year's.
Again, we would like to thank our great neighbors for their support. They are the best.
We also couldn't get our light show up without the help of MD Nursery Landscape from Driggs, Pro Rental of Idaho Falls and FASTSIGNS of Idaho Falls. Please support these businesses. You will be glad you did. They are all the best top professionals in their field.

Note: We will still have extended hours on Christmas Eve. Our show will start at 5:30 pm and end when the cars stop coming to see our show.
