Dear Chopin Society of Atlanta Friend,

On behalf of the Chopin Society of Atlanta Board of Directors and all participants of our excellent initiatives for the Atlanta youth, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support. The challenging times of the last year and a half have not slowed us down. On the contrary: to continue our important educational mission, we developed innovative projects to engage young music lovers and enrich their lives. Your financial support was instrumental in achieving these goals. Please find below the detailed plans for the next season.

WE HOPE WE CAN COUNT ON YOUR TAX-DEDUCTIBLE GIFT to the Chopin Society of Atlanta, which you can make at www.chopinatlanta.org.

Your patronage will enable us to continue our worthy programming to chart new paths for our youth as we guide them in developing a love of classical music.

Your gift is more than a contribution; it is an investment in music’s sustainable presence in your communities to benefit your children, grandchildren, and future generations.

We wish you a wonderful holiday season.

Sincerely,

Dorota Lato
Founder and President of the Chopin Society of Atlanta

The Chopin Society of Atlanta has made a distinct mark on the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition by awarding—for the first time—a special prize for the highest-ranked Polish participant. Dorota Lato, founder and president of the Chopin Society of Atlanta, flew to Warsaw to present the award in person as well as to spot potential future performers at CSA’s recitals. She was delighted that the CSA prize was awarded to Jakub Kuszlik, who charmed her (and the audience) with his performances during the Competition. Mr. Kuszlik was the winner of the Competition’s 4th prize and a special prize for the best performance of mazurkas. During the award presentation at the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall on October 21, 2021, Dorota Lato reminisced that her first meeting with Chopin’s music was in that same venue while she listened to the Competition auditions as a child. She also described a short history of the Chopin Society of Atlanta and emphasized that by awarding Jakub Kuszlik the CSA prize, the organization continues its mission of promoting young pianists. “We are waiting for you in Atlanta with our wonderful audience, who will give you their hearts,” she said.

The $3,000 prize was underwritten by the Elżbieta Krzysztof Krawczyński Fund and the Aleksander and Halina Szlam Philanthropic Foundation. While at the Competition, Ms. Lato had an opportunity to meet with former guests of the Chopin Society of Atlanta, including Ewa Pobłocka, Dina Yoffe, Kevin Kenner, and John Rink (all members of the jury), and attend the ceremony awarding the Bene Merito Award to Professor John Rink by the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, “in recognition of his merits in promoting Poland abroad.” She also participated in the Conference of the International Federation of Chopin Societies.

During the day first and second day of finals of The International Chopin Piano Competition we had many surprises.
Unlike 6 years ago, until now, none of the pianists’ is considered as a “most likely” winner!
It will be very difficult for Jury to make the decision.
Tomorrow is the last day and we will hear 4 pianists: Kobayashi, Kuszlik, Lee and Liu. At least two of them are possible winners, but all of them might surprise us again.

It is a solemn tradition that, every year on October 17, the anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin’s death, at the Holy Cross Basilica in Warsaw, where the composer's heart is burried, Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is performed.

Today is a day of break for pianists, jurors and guests, between the 3rd stage and finals at the International Chopin Piano Competition.
Starting tomorrow 12 pianist which qualified to the finals will be performing Chopin piano concertos.

Pianists Move to Stage III

The temperature of the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw is gradually rising. By now, most of the listeners (and most probably jurors, too) have decided who has made the biggest impression and has best conveyed Chopin’s nuanced brilliance.

We are happy that six Polish pianists are through: Piotr Alexewicz, Mateusz Krzyżowski, Jakub Kuszlik, Szymon Nehring, Kamil Pacholec and Andrzej Wierciński.

Stage III is especially significant because, according to the Competition rules, the jury may select special prizes for the best performance of a sonata and a set of mazurkas that competitors choose from a required list for this stage.
