Bluegrass Music Association of Iowa will be hosting the 7th Annual BMAI Des Moines Area Bluegrass Festival on March 8-9, 2019. This event will be held in the Ball Room at the Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center in Johnston, Iowa. Five bands will perform this weekend. In addition to the band performances jamming is encouraged and welcomed. We will have a jamming room and areas available for those attending the festival. (Acoustic instruments please)
Scheduled to perform are award winning Roe Family Singers from Minnesota, Lori King & Junction 63 and Briggs Family Band from Iowa. Two other bands will also make their Iowa debut performance this weekend; The Greg Blake Band from Missouri and In Cahoots from Nebraska. In addition to the band performances there will be Bluegrass Karaoke on Saturday afternoon. We have done this several years and it is sure to be fun and entertaining. Sign up to sing with the Karaoke band will begin on Saturday morning.
Friday afternoon we will be offering instrument workshops from 2-4. These are provided at no additional cost to festival attendees and offer a small group experience to gain knowledge about specific instrumentation and technique.
Friday Evening show will kick off at 6:30 PM with an Open Stage for those wanting to showcase their group or artist abilities. Following will be performances by The Briggs Family, In Cahoots, Lori King and Junction 63, and the Greg Blake Band.
On Saturday from 10 am-noon we will have instrument workshops for attendees to participate in as well. Details regarding workshops are on the website and are included in the daily or weekend ticket price.
The Saturday afternoon show begins at 1 pm with performances by The Roe Family Singers, Lori King and Junction 63, In Cahoots, and the Greg Blake band as well as Bluegrass Karaoke. The Saturday evening show will begin again at 6:30pm for Open Stage followed by band performances until 10pm. The event will have raffle drawings, silent auctions, and vendors to add to the excitement of the venue.
