Loudoun Club 12

Loudoun Club 12 Loudoun Club 12 hosts various types of 12-step meetings and events. Loudoun Club 12 is a 501c(3) non-profit company.
Since 2007, Loudoun Club 12 has been committed to providing a safe and accessible facility where the members of various 12-step programs can meet and support one another in their recovery from the devastating effects of alcohol, drugs and other addictive substances and behaviors. Currently, over 50 groups meet at Club 12 each week to offer their members support, hope and a pathway to real and lasting recovery.

Club 12 is not an AA group. A discussion on clubs during the 1967 General Service Conference noted that, although there is no such thing as an A.A. club, many clubs have been identified with A.A. because they are often organized and directed by A.A. members and membership may be limited to A.A.s. Clubs where meetings are held and which are maintained for Twelfth Step as well as social purposes can avoid difficulties by abiding by A.A. Traditions. Conference members agreed that clubs should not use the A.A. name, should be organized apart from A.A., and should not accept money from outside sources, being supported by membership dues and individual contributions from A.A. members. The question of a paid membership in A.A. does not arise, since A.A. meetings held in clubs are open to all. Further guidance was given by the 1972 General Service Conference, which advised that G.S.O. no longer accept contributions from clubs. This decision was based on returns from a questionnaire sent to all clubs. The answers indicated that the difference in club operating procedures was too great to enable G.S.O. to decide whether or not money received from a particular club was contributed by A.A. members only. (Of course, G.S.O. does accept contributions from A.A. groups that meet on club premises.) In 1989, the General Service Conference recommended to discontinue listing clubs in A.A. Directories. However, groups that meet in clubs will continue to be listed in the Directories. For more information about AA Guidelines for the relationship between AA and clubs, go to http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org/en_pdfs/mg-03_clubs.pdf.

***DUE TO WEATHER, training moved to Thursday, November 29, same time.***
FREE 20 min TRAINING NOV 29! 7pm-8:30pm. Just drop in - no appointment necessary.

The Chris Atwood Foundation (CAF) was created after the Atwood family lost their beloved son and brother to an accidentally fatal heroin overdose. Springboarding from their loss and grief, they started the foundation to "...save lives from opioid overdose, support recovery from substance use disorder, and defeat the stigma of this treatable brain disease," (www.thecaf.org).

The CAF provides free training on how to save someone suffering from a heroin overdose. They also provide free doses of the opioid overdose reversal drug -Naloxone/NARCAN - to trainees to have in case they encounter this type of emergency.

What does this have to do with Club 12?

The CAF has been providing this free training at Club 12 for a while, but the past few months there have been no attendees. As a result, they are putting their Club12 trainings on hold after the upcoming November 29th training.

In an effort to make their visits worth their while, we would like to get a count of how many people are interested in receiving training. If you are interested in receiving the 20-minute training, please drop in Thursday, November 29 between 7pm-8:30pm, or email [email protected] to state your interest if you cannot make the November 29 training.

With the opioid epidemic claiming many lives, any resources that help us as a community move through this by minimizing lives lost can be considered a success and efforts in the right direction.

The Chris Atwood Foundation is a nonprofit in Northern Virginia dedicated to saving lives from opioid overdose and supporting recovery from addiction.

We had a BLAST at the costume-dance party this past Saturday!!! Thanks all who attended and way to bring the creativity with some clever costumes! πŸ§Ÿβ€β™‚οΈπŸ•ΊπŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ

As always - Dion rocked the house, the dancers danced, while the wallflowers made sure the walls were secure, and worker bees made sure the event buzzed smoothly. Money was raised and donated to the club in an effort of doing a small part to help keep the doors of Club 12 open.

Thanks to all for your support!!! Another successful, extremely fun event in the books! "We are not a glum lot." That's for sure! πŸ˜‚
